Too all you kids saying this is boring because your expecting something like skrillex/excision, that stuff is brostep, this is dubstep. This was being called dubstep way before skrillex called his music dubstep. I think we can all agree they are two different genres of electronic music, they dont really sound very similar at all. You go listen to the genre you like, we'll listen to this genre that we like. Just dont say this isnt dubstep and dont challenge someone when they say that new american "dubstep" isnt actually dubstep.
There that covers all the arguements and confusion, so stop arguing.
go on king
I hear that
Yeah you are right, but to my mind Skrillex evolved it with the elements of Cyberpunk, Rock, and several other Genres .
It was hardly even called dubstep at the time of the release of this defining mix... I always prefered that they called it Ongy Bongy
If someone asks what music you like and you say dubstep, most people are gonna immediatly think skrillex. I just call it minimal dubstep or minimal bass. Ongy Bongy would be cool though.
If ever you questioned where 2 step garage, grime and dub converged - here’s your answer. This era really brought so many sounds together. Obviously dubstep is now renown for a very different sound, but this is what it was in the early days.
Sure, I'll explain. The problem is that hipsters, pop culture and the media have tricked you into thinking the music you got into was Dubstep. The music you got into is Post-Dubstep/American Dubstep/Brostep, which in reality bears very little resemblance to actual Dubstep. Brostep's emphasis is on heavy distorted midrange tones, whereas the focus in Dubstep is on the sub-bass. Dubstep is also a much more "minimal" genre (lots of open space between notes) than Brostep.
Rhythmicity 🤣 big ups the tru hedz
They do it every time Remember drum and bass or even scratching once you started seeing scratching on your Tony the tiger commercials it was over.
Also cannot put enough emphasis on the fact that these early days of Dubstep had the beats still full on swinging 2 step fashion. That swing rhythm and beat programming hasn't been used in Dubstep since these days. It became and still is very 1 step with a lot of space between.
@@BoyInTheWoods it isn't exactly true. At that time 1 step dubstep would simply be house because they never used slow bpms and all synths were similarly used in both dubstep and house genres. Dubstep wasn't that known, it got more popular when they started to use growling bass synths and stuff like that which differentiated it from house and allowed using the more popular 1 step rhythm. That doesn't mean other rhythms dissapeared, they just remained as underground as dubstep used to be. If you search properly, right now there is a huge amount of tracks with rhythms far more complex that anything from dubstep allstars.
Thanks dad
The transition from 2 step to dubstep
This is arguably one of the best dubstep albums ever made...
F Skrillex. Garbage made for jocks and headbangers
...but this is a masterpiece. Pure Gold! What this is to dubstep is the equivalent of what plastikman is to house music.
i'm with you! that's what's up!
Facts👌
Interesting how many compliments to this are made at the expense of something else. It's like you can't just say this is cool, you have to add some negativity for people to agree
Yes. Because nowadays general public wrongly equate dubstep to something completely different. This is dubstep.
@@galetinm it's not wrong, words don't have true meanings
Back when Dubstep had house music vibes, back in the early 2000's when dubstep was huge in Europe, that was the real golden years of the EDM genre. Don't get me wrong, I love Excision, Datsik, Downlink, all those other guys, but I'm so sick of hearing kids say that theese guys invented dubstep. No doubt they improved the sub-genre, but they didn't invent it. Also, even though DJ Hatcha is awesome, I had found Coki to be better when it came to feeling the vibes of songs, and I think that he really did make the deep wubble sound amazing, like he made the low deep wubble amazing compared to other artists. However, DJ Hatcha is still a solid artist, but I can't stand seeing people say skrillex invented dubstep. My heart goes out to all you guys who loved this dubstep, and my heart especially goes out to all you guys who grew up listening to this.
Yes ! 😀👏
Yea I think there was a evolution where guys like Caspa, Rusko, Benga came along and started doing different stuff then guys like Cookie Monsta, Doctor P, Excision, Emalkay came along and did more high frequency dubstep.
@@grindabrasion7013 when Ruscoe dropped woo boost The genre flipped
I think excision and datsik suck. Shit is ass.
early Excision and Datsik (and Downlink to a lesser extent) are the only “brostep” I can enjoy, the rest of the North American “brostep” scene was a regression
Mad nostalgia, what a cracking album , mental music truly
Peak innit
Ah when dubstep was dark, steppy, and full of vibes
its not anymore?
@@mackgorman5659 not so much, no. not that there isn't any good stuff around of course, but in the early days you could hear lots of 2 step patterns and broken up beats because the preceding dark garage period was still relatively fresh and hugely influential on this newer sound. there's some tracks on here that sound like straight 2 step garage, but because this transition was still in the process of happening there was so much more overlap in styles, while still being grouped under the same musical umbrella. whereas now it's so distinctively different from the early days, and "set" in it's formula, that you would never get a compilation that sounds like this. it was just a different time with different influences.
@@willbournerv2259 I defo do understand but i think it’s unfair to say dubstep isn’t all of the above still (especially dark) with artists like alix perez (and so many new upcoming artists such as Abmanrah) keeping the scene alive. Obviously dubstep now has lost parts of its original influences but that’s just how creativity and design works, influences change but it’s definitely still good dubstep
Check out ‘Leo Cap’’s latest release. Bringing those dark garage vibes back
Back when dubstep still had some dub influences...
Man, you deffo need to check out Lion Charge, Roots and Future and ZamZam records

2 step the father of dubstep. U.K for life.
Damn I found the original CD back to the good old days😍
America - Welcome to dupstep
Real Dub-Step!!! I miss these days. Steppy drums with a dub feel to it hence the name, unlike all the shit it ended up being known for
Wish I could've been born just a generation or two earlier. Would have been amazing to have been a part of this culture while it still thrived
indeed. however there are some simplistic dubstep djs and producers in my city. it was just hard to find the community.
Big ups to the homies that jammed dubstep all stars series in the dayyyyy. Bipups Hatcha
Bisexual baby dogs?
Man, can we revive dubstep? I think is the perfect time for a comeback
If you love this original dark funky vibe it's much easier to look into today's UKG.

Still shits on everything today, timeless…
probably the first official dubstep out there
It is. That's how I ended up here actually. Was looking at different genres of music and how they got their names and identity. And this was mentioned as the birth of dubstep!

Fave mix from this series. Always come back to it.
Conga Therapy* last track is what makes this genre so good. It's bizarre and rhythmic hypnotic

Timeless mix. Hatcha is so slick and smooth with his transitions!

Cheers for the upload, been meaning to catch up with some of the older dubstep allstars. Vol5 is still my favourite though, Splurt makes it for me
when fame gets involved the love is lost. that's what happens to all genres
Anyway real dubstep here
35:34 still my favorite part
Absolutely amazing. I will listen forever I love it.
Well it really isn't Skrillex' fault in any way, he just made edm, and people liked it. And in the end, it's actually his fans which are the real problem, Skrillex never intended to ruin dubstep or anything, he just made his own style...
lol i keep repeating ....havent let it go after 25 minutes...lol
Thumbs up
seeing titles like HARD DUBSTEP 2013 and EPICSTEP in the suggested bar kind of upsets me,
I dunno, Hatcha does go in pretty hard in this mix
properly tidy and vibes

fair play to you, you dont have to like it, in the same way if i like rock i dont have to like really old pioneering rock music, i should respect it though, cuz without it the music you like now wouldnt exist
The ghostly sound at 10:10 sounds strangely similar to the Halo 2 flood music... wonder which released first?
This is what it's all about....
This is gold, hero!
Some of these comments are gold
I agree that dubstep has evolved from this, but I also agree that the newer dubstep fulfills peoples ear holes more than this today. I am not knocking neither one because I like almost all techno/dubstep/ drum and bass. Today people only heard about dubstep b/ of big names like skrillex and datsik. You have to agree that this is dubstep and those artist also make dubstep. If you like one, the other or both, dont just come on a page disrespecting the music YOU came to hear!People are so ignorant
A distinction is important although I agree the term brostep sounds like shit. Both of these genres deserve to exist just call them differently to avoid confusion
Still has to be the last two tracks for me. Fucking bangs
Thanks for uploading this!!!
Smog sessions!!! Tempa beats..
Thank you for pointing that out. It really bugs me when people call Dubstep Dub.

Because it originated from UK Garage and other genres of EDM music. These are the grandfathers of Dubstep, at the time there were no other genres like it so they could just experiment and eventually it was categorised as a completely new genre. For me, the artists you named are what's wrong with Dubstep, but it's nice to see how genres can evolve, so i'm not gonna hate. Hope this helped you understand a bit more mate.
Its all about keeping IT Ongybongy
This is good shit
Saludos
Hey chill , don't blame Skrillex , one of his favourite artists il Burial , but u can blame his communuty

true skool
Oh dubstep((( What America did with you(((
The mainstream sheeple had a go at it
Excision, Downlink, Datsik.... All Canadian. May as well "blame" it North America, but blaming music on country is dumb anyway. Mainstream is mainstream. Tastes change. What about Cookie Monsta or Flux Pavilion (UK)? The music we love was mislabeled by another type of music that was fresh and new. College aged people and kids ate it up, just like when I was a kid and ate up every piece of 2003-2011 golden era dubstep I could find. New "dubstep" became mainstream. One part of classic dubstep's decline was the brand dilution stemming from this. I know your comment was a troll-throwaway or channel promotion puff but I always thought that type of statement was stupid.
Holy shit hahah listen to 49:08 with decent headphones on, shit will make you dizzy
wow...felt brainless for a bit haha
This is it!
Where is Dubstep now? It was a very short genre.
Yes.
So you're saying in the beginning it more resembled UK Garage? And a decade later it evolved into something totally different? Are there artists today that play something similar to this and different from what the acts I mentioned play? Do Skrillex or Excision or any other popular act have any characteristics in their music that are identified with the genre as a whole? For example most of their songs have the kick and snare on the 1st and 3rd beat, but how common is that?
gotta have tons of benny illl
