I am having Ylvis withdrawal...
During the livestream, the response of the international fans in chat was either utter confusion and/or horror and/or erotic excitement. All I could think watching this was, "OMG What does their mother think of this?" because in the US this segment would be marketed as a sort of 50 Shades thing which I would think would be yucky if it was your son, brother or father. But maybe tying up your friends is a thing people do in Norway in the winter from cabin fever and isn't a big deal? Anyway, none of us were paying ANY attention to what they were saying, so when Bård felt up Calle we were all even more confused, horrified or excited, depending on the person. Feeling for pee didn't occur to any of us and there was a lot of speculation about it, so thank you for the translation. Feeling for pee seems totally in line with their friendship. Also, I googled Harald Martin Brattbakk and Anne B. Ragde, so I did learn something cultural to make up for the years of psychiatric counselling I will need to recover from the shock of this video. :-)
+TaiChiKnees I don't know, but I think their mother would laugh I get a feeling that so many more things are perceived in a sexual and sort of morality context in the US. And other countries as well, of course, not just the US.
When I watched this I was thinking that this might have been a childhood dream of Bård's, having Vegard restrained and tickled, because when they were like 5 and 9 or something, Vegard was bigger and stronger. Like from a younger siblings perspective "One day, then I will..."
So I thought of this as pretty innocent and childish. No, not the board, the questions, the ropes and the "professional ticklers", that is for show, but the thing of holding someone and tickle them for fun.
I'm thinking that Bård's hand on Calle's thigh might have been a bit of a dad thing. "Oh, have you peed yourself, let me check, so I can change your pants".
+Quirentia I thought it must have been a cultural thing because... gah. Intellectually I know we Americans are very hung up about sexuality compared to Europe, but it's hard to fight down a lifetime of being told that sex is shameful and private. On the other hand, we sure like driving big cars, carrying lots of guns, showing lots of gore and blowing stuff up "real good"... which is evidently weird in other countries! Go figure! ;-)
+TaiChiKnees I had the extraordinary good fortune of being in the audience for this thing, and the only thing I remember is "tisse litt," which made sense to me under the circumstances. I understood nothing else, so I am hugely grateful to have it subtitled so quickly. I learned that day that it is really hard to concentrate on foreign language listening when there's a tiny gorgeous man tied to a board in front of you.
Artist in the Medium of Questionable Life Choices Ha! BTW, I have no financial interest in Duolingo, but check out the free app or program Duolingo Norwegian. You'll be shocked how much you'll understand (once you account for their Bergen dialect). It makes watching even more fun!
+TaiChiKnees Oooh, I love Duolingo! It and a lot of television watching have gotten me to the point where in most circumstances I can understand 80-90% of what the guys say, and about that much of what I read. When the guests come in I have a harder time, I think because of accents and dialects, and because I don't recognize their mannerisms and speech patterns. I didn't understand a word the crew guy said to us before the show. And I couldn't make out much during the tickle torture sketch. Well--distractions. As I've said elsewhere, I wanted to rescue the heck out of that man.
I don't know how visible it is on camera, but from where I sat it was plain that he wasn't in there very securely--I don't think any of them were, but I was pretty much directly below him, so I saw his setup the best. All that writhing worked one foot loose a couple of times, and he had to slip it back in. And when the video started, he just slid his wrists and ankles out from underneath the ropes and stepped down, neat as you please.
I can´t watch Vegard being tortured :)
