    Dinosaur King's Water Element consists of the long-necked, plant-eating Sauropods and the fish-eating Spinosaurid Theropods. How do these models from the mid-late 2000s hold up against modern science?

    I think the reason as to why sauropods are in the water element is that it could be a subtle node to the outdated thinking of sauropods staying close to large bodies of water in order to support their weight

    • @SmashBrosAssemble
      @SmashBrosAssemble 12 дней назад +13

      It has to be. Part of me thinks they wanted to put them in the grass element, but realised it would be overcrowded, so they put them into water to bolster that roster.

    • @dudotolivier6363
      @dudotolivier6363 12 дней назад +4

      Ironically, they were all still able to be completely submerged with waters, with water recovering their ridges (while still able to breath without problems), and to swim without much problems at the surface without drowing, remaining surprisingly enough light here.
      Basically like elephants are despite having zero adaptations for swimming in water.
      Crossing seas without islands hopping is even what did the ancestors of Alamosaurus, which were heavy giants, when they leave South America to North America which weren't connected physically yet.
      So on that aspect, sauropods from this received idea/outdated misconception from middle 1990 century, and Charles R. Knight painting aren't far from what they were in real life.
      Just it was an occasional thing, not a permanent behavior.

    Glad to see that Baryonyx and Suchomimus still hold up! Love them both!
    One interesting detail about Spiny that I haven’t found others mention is that, although his design does take heavy inspiration from the JPIII Spinosaurus, it not only has a longer neck that is more accurate nowadays but, as a member of the Spinosaurinae subfamily, it is also correctly portrayed as having far more straight and conical teeth, compared to the JPIII Spinosaurus which has serrated and curved teeth like Baryonyx, Suchomimus, and other members of the subfamily Baryonychinae.
    Edit: Of course, the reason why the JPIII Spinosaurus has more Baryonychine-like teeth is because, for those who don’t know, the JPIII Spinosaurus was originally going to be a Baryonyx.

    Fun fact: In the Dinosaur King manga (which released before the arcade game) Rex didn't have Ace as his partner. He was given an Irritator card by Ed as he was recruited by the Alpha Gang, but since Rex's joining was just a farce to help a captured Max, they escaped, taking the card with them. The Irritator became known as Benjamin and became Rex's main dinosaur.
    Also he could talk for some reason.
    If you're wondering Chomp didn't exist in the manga either, Max instead had a cartoonish Triceratops/Styracosaurus hybrid named Mini-King.

      Would work for Dinosaurs King to have a 100% accurate as of 2024 Spinosaurus unlike all non-documentaries production about Dinosaurs.
      As in the Anime and Games, the universe display as accurate as possible genera yet don't give a shit about the physic, low resilience to injuries or impacts and their skills and body movements limitations.
      Because despite being accurate physically, dinosaurs are still able to realize crazy and farfecht, even completely ridicule movesets or physical abilities they 100% sure never have or weren't able to do.
      Ultra frequently all are throwned in the air and falling highly into the ground from a middle to high height, yet survived without a single bone broken at impact and amplified with their own mass, are grap by others dinosaurs or grap themselves others dinosaurs and and the others dinosaurs made them spin on themselves (remember Spiny catching a sauropod neck which made him spinning in the air in one episode), or taking very heavy object above the ground too loud that could in normal time move... Etc....
      Really breaking rules of physics to an obscene degree yet ridicule in a way so that it is actually good, even how stupid and low-intelligence it is.
      So yes, giving the franchise have established this aspect as a normal part of its universe, I can see every dinosaurs or prehistoric creature, including Spinosaurus, made entirely accurate and yet still being able to be even used in the franchise despite their appearance.
      While all others productions which aren't mean to be educatives are in the obligation to downgrade/lower on purposes the appearance of the dinosaurs they display, even only a little, to be able to use them.
      For example, Jurassic Park/World can't use a completely accurate physically Spinosaurus.
      It wouldn't live for 5 minutes before being easily killed without having did something special aside just existing by another carnivore or humans.
      And while it a little off topic, Disney Lion King 2019 remake display very good what happen when you have entirely accurate to reality animals in a productions mean first for entertaining.
      You just can't use them efficiently or use them at all.
      I think you will get my point here.

    The water element might seem like an odd mix, but these two groups stem from the same branch of the dinosaur family tree. Both theropods and sauropods belong to the Saurischia (lizard-hip) family, while all the other main clades belong to the Ornithischia (bird-hip) family, which is rather ironic because birds are descended from theropod dinosaurs. 🦎🐦

      That really the only explanations why they put Sauropods in the Water Element.
      However, even when Dinosaurs King as a franchise was made, this misconception/view of the group was already outdated and considered obsolete since quite a time.
      This outdated view they lived almost permanently in water like hippos came from the 1940-50's with paleoarts like Charles R. Knight.
      But already toward 1990's that wasn't really much accepted.

    21:28, that's not true. There are fossils attributed to Nemegtosaurus (hind limb and unguals) that show very little to no differentiation when compared to Opisthocoelicaudia.
    Also, Opisthocoelicaudia most likely did not have hand claws.

    • @dweebteambuilderjones7627
      @dweebteambuilderjones7627 12 дней назад

      That's correct, it's currently believed that only the opisthocoelicaudines specifically ( _Opisthocoelicaudia, Alamosaurus,_ and their closest relatives) lost all their hand claws. And in 2019 a paper came out supporting _Nemegtosaurus_ being distinct since it turned out that the synonymy hypothesis was largely based on a _Nemegtosaurus_ specimen being misassigned to _Opisthocoelicaudia_ .

    Aight bro, it’s forgivable but I thought to let you know that suchomimus’ skull has been reworked and the one you called accurate is actually outdated.
    Suchomimus had a crest down the middle of the snout and a spinosaurus like crest inbetween its and behind its eyes. As far as I know.
    Again your error is forgivable and easily overlooked during research but I know of things about spinosaurs and wanted to let you know.

    I really hope Ampelosaurus stays its own genus. I loved him in the anime, the only season 1 Water Dino to have a Move Card that wasn’t Spiny.
    Still, it feels like many sauropods were left out of DK. I get size is a major factor when fighting is the main focus, but still I could count so many sauropods left out completely from this franchise

    • @dweebteambuilderjones7627

    I hope that Titanosaurus will never become and revealed one day to be invalid.
    Because otherwise, the entire order Titanosauria as an effect would be forced to be renamed.
    Really, everyone, you imagine the taxonomic mess and chaos that will occured if that happen ? Because the term Titanosaurs have very well implemented in people minds since a good time by know.
    Because of that, better to be forever dubious and remain still extant rather than to be invalid and to not exist.

    • @dweebteambuilderjones7627
      @dweebteambuilderjones7627 7 дней назад

      Ceratopsia hasn't been renamed despite the dubiousness of _Ceratops montanus_ , nor has Troodontidae despite the dubiousness of _Troodon formosus_ . Families and orders especially don't have to have type genera that bear their name, Titanosauria will keep its name despite _Titanosaurus indicus_ being a nomen dubium.
      And for the record, science will adapt if paleontologists for whatever reason decide to rename Titanosauria (which is unlikely anyway; _Tyrannosaurus_ kept its name despite technically being a junior synonym due to its popularity). People will learn to cope.

    • @dudotolivier6363
      @dudotolivier6363 7 дней назад

      @@dweebteambuilderjones7627 They will have only if they found out the targeted genera in question are definitively and proved to be invalid, but that will never happen because that just impossible to prove in the case of these three.
      Aside, I wasn't aware that T-rex was in the same situation than Dimetrodon which the true name is Bathygnatus.
      Obviousely, Ceratops, Troodon and Titanosaurus are animals which as animals of a given species have indeed existed (the fact that we found and recorded their bones ate definite proofs of that), but now it is just up to see if they were either indeed their own apart genera or just specimens from another and already named before genera we know.
      But even if we found out to be part of another already named before them, it's very unlikely that scientists made them invalid, at least for some, as some of them are also very popular and used animals in both scientific litterature and by the public.
      Chances are high they also received T-rex and Dimetrodon's exceptionnal treatement of favor.
