Great easy tie for those days you haven't tied hoppers and need them. I love your Cricket pattern you did a few years ago and have adapted that as well. Thanks for sharing. All the best to you and yours. Sean
I just tied one of these (never tied a hopper pattern before) and it went right from my vise to the water. The 4th rainbow kept it for good! They were taking it near the banks and even in the middle of the stream. I like fishing with terrestrials, because good presentation actually involves a messy splash to get attention. I love watching trout take such big dry flies; I used a 12 like you did, but I bet it would work with a 10 as well, I'd even give an 8 a try.
Nice job on this fly! It took me a couple of tries to tie foam onto a hook without cutting the foam with the thread. A perfect example where brute force was trumped by finesse and brain power. Who would have thunk?
Very nice little hopper there mate. That would be a super fly for bluegill and crappies. How small would you go Davie on these? You going to do any salmon flies soon. Best Regards, Ken
Hi Ken, I've tyed them down to a size 14 though you could go down a size or two..I'm tying mostly trout flies at the moment but I'll be tying salmon flies as the season goes on.. All the very best Davie..
Great pattern. I have wrapped the hook shank with two strands of peacock herl to add to the 'flash' of the underbody. Thanks again, Davie!
This looks like it'll be a good hopper dropper pattern where I'm at in southwest Colorado this summer.
Great pattern Davie, and so easy to change colours to match your local hoppers.

Davie, I just love your videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Mad looking fly I'd say it would be deadly on the Irish lakes late on a summers evening. Thanks for that one.
great video. I tie a similar but less involved version. I would love to see you do more flys like this one the show. I love easy to tie "Guide flys"
This fly was awesome yesterday in the float tube on the Mississippi (Ontario) in Allston.
