The audience were indeed high, but more than that, they were mesmerized and rightly so.
Arguably the best drummer ever, along with three of the best in their respective areas, all together. It was an embarrassment of riches. You'd have to be high to NOT be mesmerized.
I would like to know where these people in the concert are now, specifically the ones the camera focus on. Where are they now, and what they think about being part of this timeless concert.

I'm 56 years old and at the age of 6 for the first time I listened to a Led Zeppelin song coming out of my older brother's vinyl. I was shocked!! 50 years have passed and since then I have been waiting unnecessarily for a group of this level to arrive.
Of this fabulous piece that I will have listened to thousands of times, I recommend listening to the original of the vinyl and not the live, with the rustle of the stylus spinning on the record! Every time I feel it I get chills and I get moved. For me this is the best song that has ever been written, the best of all time. These 4 artists had no and will never have rivals, their brains and their talents were too far ahead, in 1970 they wrote, composed, played and sang at a level that is still impossible to find in a band today.

Yeah since they stoled alot songs from Willie Dixon.. that's why he sued them and won! ..alot the zepplin early albums have Willie Dixon credits.
I love Page's frantic style. He plays like he's on the edge of chaos or disintegration, like it could all fall apart any time, but he races on faster and faster. It gives the music an edge other bands never had. And, of course, he never does lose it. It's just his way. #ROCK GODS

Also, he’s completely smashed and playing a little beneath his talent here. Over time I realized that playing that low-slung, greasy, sloppy guitar playing was part of the sound. When Jimmy’s done playing that guitar he smokes a cigarette, bums a ride home and promises to call it in the morning.
Chris Gattman, FYI: Led Zeppelin got trashed AFTER the show. You can't play guitar, drums, keys like that when you're high af.

actually attending concerts of the many great Rock bands like Zep.
I saw Zeppelin twice and they were by far the best live band I ever saw. 2nd Time was at Knebworth house and nearly 200,000 there for it as fences went down overnight. And when they came on everyone sat and watched intently. You didn't want to miss a note. By the end it was like a religious experience. Stunning indeed. Page was an inspired guitarist and Plants voice was that of an angel and then you have the back line of John Paul and Bonzo holding it all together. Will never be matched unfortunately.

You bet they were high lol this was Summer of 1973, Height of Sex Drugs and Rock and Roll Era. Amazing Time and amazing music. This band was the best Live band of all time hands down. Zeppelin were the kings of 70s

My eyes were fixed on his tight jeans during this song especially. We were lucky to arrive early enough to get close to the stage (no reserve tickets back then lol) and high as I was, it was a life-changing concert, for sure. I’d just gotten out of the hospital, was in pain after surgery, so my late husband filled me with a great combination of drugs including four Quaaludes. What a night.
Are you kidding? These guys had a reputation with doing crazy stuff with the females that got too close to them. If they could make some sweet nubile girl (ahem) "accept" a mud shark, can you imagine what they would've done with someone like Miss Scribe back at their hotel rooms? Not to mention, no click tracks. To hell with click tracks. Who wants perfect time when you can have John Bonham laying down some ebb and flow for the band to feel and follow, taking the listener along for an organic ride. Click tracks have no soul and are the work of the devil.
@@jonathanhenderson9422 dude John Paul Jones, John Bonham, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant.......any of them can be in the argument for the best of all time in their respective instrument, and that's the opinion of other great musicians, but together, nothing like them, the innovation(you have to place them in the context of times) the originality, the production, writing, the musical ability, the tightness of the band musically....they wrote, again by great musicians, producers, DJ's and other in the know perhaps the greatest rock song ever written and perhaps the greatest rock band.....you have no clue
If you don't mind a long video, try "Dazed and Confused" from the same movie (The Song Remains The Same). Jimmy Page's guitar solo will keep your jaw firmly planted on the floor.

Damn I forgot how this is the single best performance ever recorded in the history of rock.There has never been nor will ever be a better band than Led Zeppelin. Virtuosos every one.Together some thing indescribable otherworldly and transcendent.
In 69 I was 19 years old. I saw them play just outside DC. AMAZING!!!! After the concert as I got on my motorcycle to leave and wearing bell bottom jeans with an open vest and no shirt. It was a warm, beautiful night. A girl came up to me and put her hand on my chest and her face in mine and said I wanna go for a ride" "Sure!!!" She jumped on the back but her boyfriend grabbed her right back off! Easy come. Easy go............fun times.

I've listened to all the old blues, all the way back to the early 1900's and I know almost all the songs. I've been listening for 50 years. I think this song is one of the greatest ever recorded by Led Zepplin and possibly the greatest blues song in history. I love the live performances but for this song I like the studio version better because they are able to add all the dubbing and especially the organ comes through a lot better on the studio version. I saw Led Zepplin when they came out with their first album. "Communications Breakdown" was the first song they did and that is one hell of a rocker.

You have that look on your face that every other young woman in high school had when this first came out.
My father was at this concert here in New York City (Madison Square Garden) and he said when they came out to sing he thought the arena was going to collapse from the applause and stomping in the stands. He literally raised his hands to cover his head in case the stands above him collapsed. Dad also said the audio in the video (which is from a movie they did of this concert called The Song Remains The Same) sounds way lower than the actual loud madness in person. Which makes sense since the band's audio had to be mixed louder for the movie.

Such a great classic. A great sample of what this great band was all about. But I again urge you to set aside about 30 min. And check out Dazed and Confused from the same show. Then follow up with more songs from Song Remains The Same. Such as Rain Song, No Quarter, Moby Dick, and of course Stairway To Heaven. You won't be the same afterwards. Then again that's the beauty of Rock N Roll. Peace.

I LOVE this song. This version was a moment in time. "Walk in my front door and hear my back door slam HEY BABY" I listen to everything. This morning at work I was listening to Thelonious Monk and then Miles Davis. Many times I've listened to this and "The Song Remains the Same". It's all GREAT MUSIC and an INCREDIBLE moment in time. I also like Classical music very much. But it was Thelonious Monk who led me to Mozart. Still I LOVE Monk.
Back when I was in High School, way back when the world was different and music was real, every dude I knew who could play guitar wanted to be like Jimmy Page. Led Zep was the quintessential rock band and all rock stations were playing their music. It was a different time (not perfect) but way better than today. I'm sure glad I grew up in those days.

The guy on the organ is John Paul Jones. While his playing the keys with his hands his also playing the bass with his feet. Every member in this band is the best at what they do.

Hell yeah they were high, back in the days before everything got boring the moment the house lights went down the people lit up. Now you'd be hauled out of the joint the moment they see a spark and you'd be up on charges, for cigarettes. Oh how the times they have a changed.
This was about the time I saw them in Madison Square Garden in New York City. It was June 6th, 1977. I was 14.
