Andries 6 Mabone Maseko , he holds the record of scoring 8 goals in a single NSL, one of the first players to play overseas before Jomo and the likes. Very sadden by politics cloud and hid his legacy.
Please help me.! Who actually scored the first goal of the match? Was it Frederick "Congo" Malebane (jersey no. 12) or Andries "Panyaza" Maseko (jersey no. 13)?
The date is wrong! Patson Banda was no longer at Pirates in 1989. Their goalkeeper at the time was Innocent Mayoyo. The 1989 team had players like Basil Steenkamp, Bashin Mahlangu, Botsotso Makhanya, Moses Kamanga, Mandla Sithole, Dan Malesela, Lawrence Maake etc. This must be a 1978 - 1984 era match.
The very same goalkeeper Moses "Skepe" Khanyeza who made chiefs to lose mainstay cup against wits university in 1978 and was substituted by the legendary goalkeeper Banks Setlhodi
@@benedictmalesoena5491 do you believe in this stuff? If so why we never won the world cup? I was listening to Jerry skhosana the other day talking about it, apparently our big teams are using it
@@khabazela2452 Back in the days it was used a lot,it worked for some people especially ekasi and when there was football in hostels. People used to play for a cow, goats or sheep. Even money it was crazy back then. Did you notice Ace Mini,Shakes Mashaba and Phil Jones?
Yeah, it's a mistake. The match was pkayed in 1980. Jomo left Pirates at the end of 1982 and bought Dion Highlands Park in January 1983 and re-named it Dion Cosmos. It later became known as Jomo Cosmos

We really appreciate the content, but I don't think it's the 1989 final because at that time Jomo already had his own Jomo Midas Cosmos
Well done ndoda👌
South African soccer is one of the best in the world. thanks to people like you and broadcasting companies.
Was back then because they played with passion ❤
This Mainstay Cup Final was actually played in 1980.
Ja...youre correct my brother...i was actuall y suprised myself...Jomo was no longer at Pirates in 1989..
This is 1980 Mainstay Cup Final
Is that Andy "Jesus" Karijinsky being interviewed at the end?
Must say pirates had a good keeper, and that number 13 of swallows was giving the pirates defense a tough time!!

Thats Andries "Panyaza" Maseko

SA Soccer lasted from 1971 to 1994

The original Soweto derby
These games were making people to come together
The pitch invasion 😄😄
The beautiful birds
Only Jomo Sono can take a free kick like that. The first goal. 🙌
This was very,very nice game.

Which year did Jomo retire playing football?
No this was not 1989, this was Mainstay Final 1980 which ended 3-2 for Bucs.
1989 the cup was already renamed Bob save superbowl
This is so wrong 1. This final was in 1980 2. Jomo retired in 1983. 3 Mainstay stopped its sponsorship in 1987 ,88 was Bobsave
You got no. 2 wrong. Jomo started Cosmos in 1983 and he played until early 90's.
@@TshidiSesele I know he bought Dion Highlands in 1983 but from 1983 he was just having fun not a serious player.

To be exact, the match was played on Saturday the 29th of November, 1980.
Glory days
Ace Mnini from my hood ✊🏿
I'm so sad that I missed him at his best... I saw only glimpses of him, Teenage and Ace Ntsoelenge in 1989 right before they retired.
I am NOT really sure if there was any Mainstay cup contested in 1989 and not even 1988. Could we have the exact year for this match please....

Thank you so much for the material. This what we need to watch, not the crap from England. Who is the no 13 that scored the first goal for Pirates?
Big Boy Kholoane
@@sphemathonsi572 Thank you S'phe.

it was final 1980 not 1989. All those players were retired by 1989
Jomo was still playing in the early 90's
Actually its the 1983 Mainstay Cup Final
It's written 1989 in the title, others saying 1980 and you're saying 83, which is which ??
@@mrmkhosana6876 My apologies loyal soccer fans it's 1980.
No! 1980
Certainly not 1989

The Orlando Stadium, in it's original state. Mecca of RSA soccer.

1. Dr Khoza at the stadium attending Pirates game 😁😁😁😁😁😁
