TheSportCompact DOS Copied CP/M which was originally going to be settled until the CP/M creator was "persuaded" otherwise. And yes, windows 1, 2, 3, 95, 98, and ME run over DOS. "Don't release it for free" You call that great? It's not revolutionary in anyway. I would love to hear the reason to keep things closed in regards to the big moola besides personal gain and a tremendous Middle Finger (NON-CALI STYLE). I find the direction of (not just free) open-sourced software to always cover my needs. Well I agree w/ the game aspect, I don't play anything free of charge unfortunately. I suppose It would then all boil down to how much knowledge you have. The whole "Don't release it for free" isn't really covered just yet. What you told me is a good reason for commercial licencing which is related to a confined controlled environment where people can decide what can be used and what shouldn't be seen. What wasn't explained is the reason for the whole entire attitude of POLICING it "shouldn't be free". But, linux being messy? Are you reading those top10 Linux distro pages :P I believe *the real Don's use Arch Linux*. Ubuntu is out of the question is terms of reliability whether it's from crappy updating systems to what's compatible. So if you want to be hassle free you gotta learn how to use the Arch way. Oh yeah, you can't do shit on a Mac, so.
I've heard some horror shock stories w/ Ubuntu within the last year. Linux Mint is even presented in that regards of "This works, look at how simple our website looks" I have also tried Linux Mint and found it to be a very neat & simple linux distro where everything that you expect from a Window's machine will already be laid out for you in Mint. Ubuntu has some hiccups like getting codecs to work, isn't that right?
1:41 You forgot to mention how they "produced" DOS. Basically they told IBM they have an operating system and signed a contract. They actually had no OS so they went on to buy one. Pirates of the Sillion Valley is a good movie on the topic.
Microsoft sold 15,756 PC software units worldwide x $17.50 = $275,730.00!! They also sold 149,000,000 consoles worldwide x $9,799.99 =$1,399,860,000,000.00!! Total sales: $1,399,860,275,730.00!!
The android version that was in development before the iPhone was more Palm/Blackberry type of interface with a keyboard. Look up early renderings for the OG Android, what you know and love today was heavily influenced by the iPhone. The history shows what Android looked like pre iPhone and post iPhone. It's pretty apparent.
Ya know. I'd really, really like to see this team get even more in depth with the history of computing. I think a lot of people could really benefit from seeing LMG do heavy history of computers and how we ended up where we are. To a lot of us nerds it's a story we've heard a thousand times, but I think you guys could tell it well for a new audience that is unaware.
Point of clarification. CP/M did NOT become DOS. Completely separate products, that while achieving the same end goal were not related. In fact they were competitors. CP/M was the dominant (and vastly superior) OS and until IBM started shipping their PCs with DOS was the preferred OS. It's always interesting how mistaken young ones are about computing history, especially those that weren't around to actually experience it first hand.
I would like to thank you for all the techquickie. you guys have caught me up on a lot of technology that has just passed me by, the last time I built a PC wasn't 2004 and I never looked in on technology since then and I would just like to say a lot has changed thanks again
Windows ME was actually very solid for me and worked so well that I was largely unaware of its reputation for having problems. Even the issues that my friends and workmates had with it at the time were reasonably minor, equivalent to problems that they had with the supposedly more solid Windows 95.
Computer keyboard and mouse as fast as possible. Because nearly every prediction of computer technology from the past (up to the 70s) never foresaw the computer mouse.
WAQWBrentwood Try 1964 for the first ever prototype, and even then, it took a long time for people to bandwagon onto the idea of a computer mouse. Then you didn't know how to set it up properly. XP is the first consumer-level OS based on the rock-stable Windows NT. App-level code cannot bring down the OS.
