I still have faith that maybe (Just maybe) the anime adaptation will give us something that can satisfy our insatiable expectations.

I think an issue in people's reaction to Deku's development is people arent used to this kind of character writing.
You used examples like Vagabound and Berserk, even Naruto. The point of those stories is you're following a flawed character who is more or less "wrong." and need to be brought to the light. Midoriya is a flat positive character ala Goku. He has the "correct" outlook and serves as a force to affect other characters. You HAVE to have more development in people like Bakugou and Endeavor firmly BECAUSE they are fundamentally wrong. All Might himself even, is wrong.
I think a combination of the increase of edgy works in the manga space and decline of flat arc protagonists creates a sort of dissonance in people's reactions to Midoriya.
People call the vigilante arc so sick and Deku's peak, but that part of the story is watching a child fall. The beauty of that arc is pulling him out of that despair; it isn't growth or a good character trajectory for him.
I also think too many people projected their feelings onto Deku. The idea of this meek kid who can finally stand up to his bullies, albeit relatable, was never the purpose of him as a character.
My Hero is, at the end of the day, a collectivist societal series about what we owe to one another as a society, through the lens of a marvel-esque hero comic. Deku was never gonna be edgy or cool or even the sole Number 1. Too many people followed My Hero, sadly, for the wrong reasons.

I think having a teenage character in, what appears to be, a coming of age story, remain as a flat character, is pretty wack. I'm pretty sure that was the goal for Deku, I just personally don't like it.

People that say goku is a flat character never seen og dragon ball and watched z with theirs eyes closed. Goku has very much a lot of character progression and a flat character is more like luffy. But deku had major flaws. For example his lack of self preservation or how he would be upholding the same problem with hero society trying to be that pillar of peace. He never really reflected on anything important in the series or any information given to him that would contradict his view on hero Society. I.e endeavor, stain. Let alone that the vigilante arc which is not deku peak it’s the over haul arc even tho that arc has it flaws. To be honest I hated the vigilante arc cause it was very much over simplified the things that he need to learn on his own and the same problem with his character still persisted in that arc.

this stupidity of someone thinking an MC needs to completely 180 their character is PEAK illiteracy, nothing was wrong with Deku his major flaw was self worth/confidence, finding his place in the world n changing for the betterment of downtrodden ppl like the quirkless boy he was, at the start of the manga, worshipping Heroes who he had no insight, of their personal stresses.
By the end he accomplished everything he sought out, learned from his Arch Nemesis Shiggy, saved his soul n put that to use in reforming Hero Society n guiding ppl away from path of Villainy like he did for Gentle/La Brava.
With how vague Zol is in his critique i can only assume he put little to no effort analyzing the manga n just gave a poorly thought out reactionary response, with practically no real substance, aside from vaguely mentioning the pacing issue of the Final arc, which everyone already is in consensus on.

yer mha both as an anime and manga felt rushed both in the story and IRL we defiantly need some form of training arc or something to be some time between the vigilante deku arc and the war arc it felt like whiplash watching it and with in the story this only taking place in a little over a year is nuts they could have used some time between just to keep thing paced like they have more then a few story lines they could have completed instead of leaving them for the ending because that ending is bad like it try's to wrap everything up at once a whist having this odd the hero's won but at what cost whist not fully devoting to that it just feel like the writer was told half way through that he is limited to how many more volumes he could put out and had to finish the story overwise it wouldn't ever get finished.

Im not a writer or nun
But i think it would've been cool to see Deku become a anti-hero in the vigilante arc and extend the arc. Then he learns to become a great hero or something in the final war arc
But personally i didn't like Deku's character for most the series. From the start till around end of the overhaul arc i thought he was cool. But he became so uninteresting that i got lowkey mad when ever his bland ass face showed up on screen

...Honestly? I think it would've been better if Deku had stayed Quirkless from the start.
It would've been more of an Underdog story since we'd see a Quikless Deku going up against, AND EVEN SURPASSING, those with Quirks. Forcing anyone and everyone to acknowledge that he belongs, and even getting the most respect as well.
