For those of you who don't understand the guitars and such, the guitars are wired to a few different Mac's running Abelton Live and each of the buttons on the base launch clips which they put together to make the sounds your hearing live. The necks control FX clips like filters and phasers stuff like that to modify the clips they launch from the base. The guitarists are Downlink and Excision, 2 of the best producers in the world and here they are trying to change the norm of just a live DJ set. The drummer (KJ Swaga) is using a set wired up in a similar way except into a drum program. Backstage they control how each system is mixed to make it sound like a song as well as controlling the suits that have communication gear lights ETC. This is the first show of its kind so its not perfect but its still amazing
For all you haters... If you haven't been to a destroid concert, your opinion doesn't matter. I just went to the safe in sound festival in Spokane, and it was the absolute best concert I've ever been to. Regarding the guys who "aren't doing anything" on stage, whether they are or not, who cares. Would you rather go to a show with a dj just standing there? Or a band? They are performers. They are paid to entertain.

midi controllers are pure voodoo and magic. it does not involve hardware and software interpreters for 1's and 0's. nobody understands hexadecimal anyway
ReptilleGaming but i don't even see them pressing them during the songs. If they had the base of the track with sounds in that track mapped on the keys it could work, which is what should be happening here but all i see them doing (especially looking at jeff) is holding their guitars and bouncing
Jeff spares no expenses when it comes to production value. They even have the Destroid costumes and shit. Excision goes all out with everything he does
It's probably a basic midi controller (like launchpad or korg nanopad ...) with pre-loaded sounds, synths, clips and effects for the knobs, combined with a midi guitar and a badass custom design *_* (sorry for my english i'm not form the US or UK) Peace :)
Why would they headline Tomorrowland? Tomorrowland is a noobed out festival for kiddies who like bigroom house and shitty mainstream EDM. Destroid is way to hardcore and heady for them, Tomorrowland appeals to freaking Tiesto and Martin Garrix fans, not Bassheads who like Destroid.
thedjartillery Many DJs us MiDi boards which you program to play certain songs/sounds/samples/etc when you press that button. Their Midi boards were fully customized to be used as guitars so they're actually just went to sync up songs and play certain sounds, as well as live mixing when they press multiple keys and not just loop one at a time
its pretty dope...but they need some screens to zoom in on them. I want to see the detail. they need to move around more also (walk, jump, or break shit) I cant wait for the show to progress.
wow, I'm late to the party big time:(. You're correct in saying these MIDI guitars are like a launchpad, but I don't think the buttons do anything with controlling the pitch. I've researched this, and I'll try my best to explain this based on my research. The buttons that run up and down the neck of the guitar actually have the samples assigned to them. So the buttons control which sample is playing. If the samples were assigned directly to the strings of the guitar, that wouldn't give them a lot of samples at one time (they only have six strings like most guitars, so that would mean only six samples which would mean they would have to change sample banks way more often). What I'm imagining is that there are 6 rows of "frets" (which are actually buttons, unlike an actual guitar which uses small metal bars), and I think Excision said that there are 24 frets on each row. So imagine how many more samples you could trigger at one time if the samples were assigned directly to those buttons, as apposed to assigning samples to only 6 strings! So then what's the point of the strings, you may ask? The strings, I'm imagining, are what actually trigger the samples (that's why they're called "string triggers"). And if you're at all familiar with MIDI, you might've heard of what's called a "MIDI note". That's the reason why different keys or buttons on a MIDI controller each make different sounds; each sound is given a certain MIDI note. That's how the fret buttons on the MIDI guitars from Destroid work; each audio clip that gets played has a MIDI note designated to it. Pressing and holding one of the fret buttons on one of the six rows of frets is how you essentially "select" the note (just like on a normal guitar), and plucking the string that corresponds to that same row of frets is what finally triggers the sound (also just like a normal guitar). So instead of the strings and frets triggering actual musical notes, they trigger audio clips. If you've ever seen the controller for a video game like Guitar Hero for example, it actually works in a very similar way, because in fact I believe the controller actually uses MIDI to communicate with the game! There are also some guitar-like MIDI controllers that don't even have strings, so all you'd be doing is pressing the buttons on the guitar neck to play it. I do apologize for this comment being so long (and late), but I've researched guitar-like MIDI controllers like this. And I suppose I should thank Destroid for making me interested in that concept! :) and Destroid hasn't been the first and only musicians to use these types of controllers. Even the band Pendulum has utilized these before (which I actually didn't know until recently).
my mum told me that this is just three computer nerds dressed up as robots dancing about and pressing buttons on guitar shaped midi controllers over a pre-recorded set. is this true?
corey jay idk about the guitarists but the drummer, kj sawka, is a beast at drumming. When he drums it also triggers some of those random futurist noises too to add to the music epicness :D
In all seriousness I don't know about you but I could not give a fuck if its pre recorded or whatever that shit is amazing! And I know for a fact the drums are legit! KJ swaka is an amazing drummer look at the stuff he did with pendulum!!
joseconsuervo agreed this genre has come on leaps and bounds since it first took off, but people still accuse stupid things its pathetic, wheres there fame? I don't see them on a stage selling out shows! I don't usually rant but its ridiculous!
its not 100% prerecorded. Yes they are going through a ableton set but for the most part they have a decent amount of control of the songs they play. I know they get the stems from the artist and play it around with them a bit
One million dollar suits to push even more buttons. Great concept, still bullshit.....A DJ is a DJ no matter what they wear or the silly MIDI controllers they use to make it look like they perform something.
It's not as simple as "pushing buttons". If you believe that it is, you're ignorant and obviously have never tried DJing and being good at it. Also, these guys are playing 100% live.
This reminds me of when the TMNT used to give concerts n shit, I think my nephew would love to go to one of this shows.... and midi controllers? get out of here! we all know this is a pre recorded set of course and they are just standing there on their little platform faking it. Does people actually buy any of this... I mean don't get me wrong obviously Destroid it's a big name in the Dubstep scene but these live shows, idk man, I'm not feeling it, just my opinion... kind of disappointed...
u know shit about sound routing and midi signal and u c/p what excision said defending this crap? ur just to young to think beyond your favorite artist comments . cheer up its only the internet kiddo :)

DJSkreebz Woah, what are you talking about? :o i don't understand, and i want to
+IveSoGotThePow the guitars they use on stage are modified Novation Launchpads and MIDI keyboards, They are playing everything live on them

Just imagine if they headlined at Tomorrowland, that would be fucking insane
+zombie99zxz They're going to be at Ultra Miami in March!
They have the playlist uploaded on their laptops while kj makes the beats they are remixing the songs themselves with the instruments themselves

Destroid is amaizing and incridible.
dope video props! looked liked a wild night! wooo
I like how excision are so good today
I know they're made by Starr Labs. Probably modded versions of the Clipper series, so yes its essentially a guitar shaped launchpad.
damn, those guy's are amazing
actually the name is ztar, it's a kind of 'synthguitar' you can google it, rob swire from pendulum also owns this instrument.
That snare tho
analog meet electric equipment, awesome max 😻
The 'guitars' are custom MIDI controllers
They're a combination of midi keyboards (in a midi guitar shape) and trigger pads plus control knobs, I know, fucking awesome!
2000 thousand HARDCORE MEMBAZ!
you're missing a zero, bro
nrosa8140 indeed.
5:39 track? it isn't Crizzly & Kids At The Bar - Like Dat
It's probably a basic midi controller (like launchpad or korg nanopad ...) with pre-loaded sounds, synths, clips and effects for the knobs, combined with a midi guitar and a badass custom design *_* (sorry for my english i'm not form the US or UK) Peace :)
Crazy ass Midi guitars!!!
They used them like MIDI controllers. Each fret on the guitar is a buttom so they can assign whatever they want to those buttons.
Why can't i find any information on them anywhere? What is their website? Tour info?
I wish I was there. I was right across the golden gate!!!
Chicago this Saturday!!!!!
yes they cut off single parts of i dont know what and connect dem into their midi guitars
can anyone give the songs in order
This is trippy shit. Bring on Camp Bisco 2013
what was the song at 21.50? HELP!

Song after Funk Hole?
Their guitars look a little more like MPCs to me, but I haven't gotten to examine them much.
Yes.
Have a brazilian in this show?
Song before Subsonic Back up? Please
Darude-sandstorm
Are they actually doing anything besides maybe the drummer?
yes
No.
thedjartillery Yes.
I would love to know what the other two are doing. Can anyone explain?

Last month at lost lands they almost burned the stage down. So that was pretty cool
Can i get a playlist plz
pretty much, i think they explain somewhere
Whattttt is this the new ecpert level in guitar hero???
I'm pretty sure they're just using a MIDI guitar set up :) kinda like a Novation Launch pad
I'm not too sure, I think it's like a Launch Pad then there's buttons all the way up the guitar neck that control the pitch, like a real guitar.
wow, I'm late to the party big time:(.

Sick!
They should Jimmy Hendrix their midi guitar at one of their shows in the good name of Destroid.
New tracks?
my mum told me that this is just three computer nerds dressed up as robots dancing about and pressing buttons on guitar shaped midi controllers over a pre-recorded set. is this true?
That about sums it up. You have to nerd out to make music like this. Prerecord I can't verify that. It's just like any other band that plays music.
corey jay idk about the guitarists but the drummer, kj sawka, is a beast at drumming. When he drums it also triggers some of those random futurist noises too to add to the music epicness :D
Its her opinion, but ask your mom to make music like this, it aint that easy, huh?

you're thinking of Excisions X stage he did for the tour after his X rated tour, and that shit was crazy
Safe in Sound tour this summer.. 150,000 watt sound system.. and they are coming to my home town.!
Something like that
In all seriousness I don't know about you but I could not give a fuck if its pre recorded or whatever that shit is amazing! And I know for a fact the drums are legit! KJ swaka is an amazing drummer look at the stuff he did with pendulum!!
yup. pendulum is pretty sick

yeah probably like launchpad but different....
find the original track and compare it here. the only difference is the percussion
There are a lot of timing errors too actually
The new daft punk
