  • In this skit Beulah learns how King Saul was jealous of David’s popularity with the people of Israel after David defeated “the big ole giant”, Goliath. Even his own family loved David. As Saul became more and more fearful that his kingdom would be taken away from him, he became determined to get rid of David.
    Memory Verse:
So the women sang as they danced, and said: “Saul has slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands.” (1 Samuel 18:7 NKJV)
    Lessons Taught:
    • God had rejected Saul as the king of Israel
    • God had Samuel go to Bethlehem to anoint one of the sons at a man named Jesse’s house
    • The first seven were not the one that God had selected
    • David, the youngest son, was the one that God wanted Samuel to anoint with oil
    • Saul wanted David to stay with him fulltime after he defeated Goliath
    • As they returned from the battle against the Philistines, women sang that David had accomplished more than Saul
    • This made Saul angry
    • The next day as David was playing the harp for Saul, Saul threw his spear at David, but he missed him
    • David and Saul’s son, Jonathan, became best friends
    • Jonathan gave David his robe, armor, belt, sword and bow
    • The Philistines had taken away all the blacksmiths throughout Israel so weapons were scarce
    • In one battle, Saul and Jonathan were the only ones who had swords and spears
    • Saul’s daughter Michal loved David
    • Saul had promised that whoever fought Goliath could marry his daughter
    • Saul let David marry her after he killed 200 Philistines
    • Saul gave Michal in marriage to another man
    • David eventually got Michal back
    • Michal never had children
    • Michal saved David’s life by helping him escape
    • Saul’s servants had orders to watch David’s house and kill him in the morning
    • Michal told the guards that David was sick in bed
    • Saul ordered them to bring David to him in the bed so he could kill him
    • Saul asked Michal why she had tricked him and had helped David
    • Michal lied and said that David had threatened her life
    • David went to Samuel and stayed with him
    • David next went to Jonathan
