- This is a brisk walk from Union Square all the way north to Fisherman’s Wharf. We start at the corner of Powell & Geary and walk through Union Square to Stockton & Post. Then it’s a one block stroll to Grant Avenue. We are on Grant through the bulk of this walk, heading through Chinatown and North Beach. We do take a small detour at Jack Kerouac Alley and head for the corner of Columbus and Broadway. Following Columbus to the right, we once again are on Grant Avenue. Our next turn is at Union Street. From here we head to Washington Square Park and continue north via Columbus Avenue. Taylor Street is our last turn and we’ll pass the Mason Cable Car Turnaround before heading several more blocks into Fisherman’s Wharf restaurant row, Musée Mécanique, and the fully restored WWII submarine, USS Pampanito. At the Fisherman’s Wharf sign, know that Pier 39 is a few blocks to the right and the Hyde Street Cable Car Turnaround, Hyde Street Pier, and Ghiradelli Square are a few blocks to the left.
