Even had a member card that expired a month before cause I switched to sams club. over 6 workers trying to figure out if I can pay for my stuff and leave . The .00 clearance rule works for pretty much any retail store. Items that go on clearance will have the price reduced again if it doesnt sell for long enough. Eventually it will hit its lowest price and if it still doesnt sell after that it will be thrown away or sent back to the supplier, essentially a loss for the store.
    You can tell if an item is at its lowest clearance price if it ends in .00 otherwise you can wait for it to go lower, if no else takes it first 😅

    Couple things, I’m a costco employee and the asterisk just means it will be an inactive or pending delete item, but it does not mean we will never carry it again. Many times items do come back seasonally or for other reasons. And also on the .00 prices, it is very likely that if those items don’t sell and there is quantity in stock, they may be marked down further. 😊

      This AND .00 is an in-warehouse markdown, meaning you could find the same item at a different building and it might not be the same price (but it's not just that the sign wasn't updated, it just didn't get marked down in that warehouse so they don't have to honor it). You also can't get price adjustments on items ending in double zeros, at least not in my region, but you can get price adjustments for things ending in .97 just like you can get coupon adjustments for things that get a coupon within 30 days of you purchasing it at full price ☺️

      It's to keep costs low. In the us costco has some of the lowest prices for groceries across almost all things they carry. In order to keep those low costs, a yearly membership is needed in order to go in and shop. The regular membership is only like 40 USD for the whole year, but plenty of people buy a membership and don't make use of it, which ends up making costco a profit.

      Everything is sold in bulk quantities. The membership pays for itself in essentials and, often times, gas that's cheaper than most surrounding stations.

      I mean its not that different from other memberships, especially subscription services nowadays. You pay for Amazon prime, Hulu and Netflix with ads. Theres also sams club. For video games, there's wow where you pay subscription so you can pay for expansions and microtransactions. Its all about how much value you can extract from it. If costco has cheaper products than Walmart, you can potentially make difference back if u shop at costco enough. Thats the incentive for memberships and subscriptions

    Another thing. If you have an item that you no longer want and cant/dont want to put it back in its spot, take it with you to the register and let the employee know. They will put it in a go backs basket and itll get put away. Especially cold items. Far too many times I see people put cold items at the most obscure locations. Ive found $80 steaks already lukewarm in the cereal aisle, eggs hidden away behind candy and fresh produce brocolli stuffed with the frozen brocolli and expensive cheese tucked away in the freezer.

    • @AdamBuker

      This is true of most grocery stores and Walmart. If you don't want it, don't just stash it somewhere. Bring it to the cashier or at least to another employee (if you can find one that is).

    • @jsoe81657

      Thing is Costco was a member store primarily. It wouldn't make sense or be fair for people to have memberships and have to wait to get food.

      @teetee19768 21 день назад +6

      @jsoe81657 Nonsense! You wouldn't even know who has a membership or not. Members are always allowed to bring a guest, and the food court is crowded regardless.

    • @e-curb

      @teetee19768 disagree. For locations with the food court inside, you would need to have a membership to buy things not related to the pharmacy or alcohol. In theory, you would need to have a membership to enter the store anyway just to do shopping and the food court was not an exclusion.

    • @randomvids8124
      @randomvids8124 17 дней назад +1

      WRONG. It is NOT "all" on a store-to-store basis. It is ILLEGAL for them to prevent you from accessing a pharmacy.
      Doesn't matter which store it is, they will NOT stop you from going to the pharmacy. Costco makes this VERY clear in their personnel training. As soon as you say the word "pharmacy" they are legally required to let you inside.
      You've never been stopped in this situation and you'll never see anyone else stopped in this situation. Imagine someone picking up their heart medication dying in front of the store because they were denied entry. Try thinking a little.

      @coryspatter1336 I assure you, they don't care about policy much until someone gets hurt or sued. Or better yet if corporate comes into store, then everyone needs to work as fast as possible to make the store appear to care about policies.

    I'm the general manager for an undisclosed company and Costco's pricing reminds me of ours. If it ends in .99 it's the original price, if its a different weird number that means it's either a manufacturer discount, orrr we're pricing that thing to the absolute bare minimum that we can afford to price it at. If it ends in .00 it's definitely clearance.

I have also returned moldy/spoiled foods on multiple occasions too. Honestly the membership is worth it solely due to their customer satisfaction policies 😉
