Personally my criticism with this mold is that the torso feels oversized, like a UniqueToys torso, and as a result it makes the arms feel undersized. This one was more a curiosity however, I REALLY hope MMC's Megatron turns out good, because Autobot-Megatron is shockingly enjoyable.

After owning this guy, the SXS guy just looks soo much better/comic accurate

part of the issue with this guy for me is that his legs are so detailed, and so many colors in them, makes them look really very interesting. Then his upper body is red with a couple yellow places on it, for the most part, and just looks so plain in comparison to his lower body.
And while that may have been partly due to the artwork, it really needed some oranges or something to liven it up.

yea, so small things just a lot of those small things. i.e paint, but lots of it. ankle rocker, but much greater range etc

MMC is definitely taking a engineering in their mind approach recently. Trying to become the new Takara.

The chest is indeed painted, the other yellow parts are unpainted yellow though.

The Exhaust spikes ARE accurate to the MTMTE Rodimus Design, he just hasn't had them since the whole Sparkeater incident WAAY back in Issue... 3 I think. He got them stuck in the Quantum Generator by trapping the sparkeater inside it I think.

I agree, he could have used some energon highlights, but other than that he's pretty perfect :D

Great video buddy! I just want to let you know, the alt mode is very similar, if not spot on, to the one Rodumas has in IWD's comics. I forget which issue it was last shown, but I remember the alt mode it's self.
I've been looking forward to this MMC release as I never really liked the G1 version of Hotrod/Rodumas from the cartoons.
In a side note, awesome Wreckers shelf! Color me green with envy! I was wondering, are those mostly the Takara versions or the Hasbro versions of Sandstorm, Springer and Whirl?

Bobby Skullface L Correct me if I'm wrong, the only difference between Hasbro and Takara figures is the paint job, right?
What's off is the that the chest layering is too flat in the front. From the side, it looks entirely too bulky. From any angle other than dead on he looks like he's a dude wearing a colorful box as a shirt. The depth of the angular, pointed plate that forms the first layer of his chest in the art is entirely lost on the sculpt of this piece. The shoulders lack the curvature and larger proportions from the art, and the feet are entirely too small. It looks like the larger car hood panel that forms the back of the calf and the assembly that makes up the foot should swap places.

Daim shared a post today or yesterday of someone who had panel lined it, it looks so much better. I wish I could handle even that simple of customizing.
I look forward to a comparison with SXS. I remember when I first saw the prototype pics of the SXS Rodimus I commented wondering if it could transform they hid the alt mode so well.

In my opinion the SXS Rodimus looks better in bot mode, but the MMC Rodimus has the vehicle mode down to near perfect.

Dude, great review! I totally agree about the paint. I wish they would've stuck with the color on his abs and thighs that he's pictured with ON THE BOX!!!
Anyway.... I still really enjoy the figure. Gonna try to pop out the spikes at some point though.

Real quick will you be reviewing Generation Toy IDW Optimus Prime and compare to GCreations? I ended up VERY disappointed with the end result so close yet so far away. If GT released an updated 2.0 with maybe some ratchets....I would maybe revisit.

I know right? I wish 3rd Party makers would commit all the way if their going to give us an IDW sculpt, not one "in spirit". Even Hasbro has managed to cater to fans with their Skids, Swerve and Ultra Magnus.

Great review as always! Been wanting to see how this figure turned out and it's nice. Did they get the idea for the bow from Rodimus Minor? I've read a couple of IDW Transformers, mostly RID and I haven't seen Rodimus use a bow. Another thing I noticed is that the leg somehow reminded me of Generations Springer somehow perhaps it's those large wheels on the legs.

I remember LazyAza saying on the TFW2005 threads that there will be an asterisk Calidus at TFCon or something like that. There is speculation that it will be the Lost Light version.

I like your commentary / discussion videos, but not your reviews. I don't really understand what you like to see in figures in general, so I have a hard time gauging my tastes against yours.
i like paint, sculpt, and articulation. add intuitive engineering when it comes to TF's
This figure looks really good on the shelf with Generations Springer and Sandstorm thanks to the wheels in the calves. I suspect a nice label set (ya know its commin') will really set this guy off nicely.

So it isn't just me when I look around on the usual sites, huh?I was honestly hoping there some figures out there that I had missed. Maybe the future will change that. I mean we're getting yet another Windblade in Titans Returns so yay....I guess. Not gonna lie, I was really expecting at least an Arcee in TR and maybe even Elita One just so they could recycle and remold. Speaking of, what do ya think the odds are that Slipstream will be the TR recycle of the Windblade?

I have yet to see a Rodimus badge included with the figure. That's the only reason why it's a 9.5 for me. Nothing like Rodimus giving you a thumbs up on a medal to make your feel proud of yourself.
That yellow is just mcdonalds enough for me to hate it.

Didn't know there are already so many good-looking IDW figures... Into MP 1st/3rd party G1 figures but I couldn't resist getting MMC's Overlord version. It's kind of a style-clash with most G1 MP's but he is sooo damn good looking... I even made him a throne to sit on! But I am eyeing that upcoming Generation Toy "IDW Leader" Megatron. If it's any good and fits with the MMC Overlord I want it, so could you please consider a comparison if you happen to review it later on?

I'm still holding out for SXS Hot Flame and that the alt Mode will be a bit sleeker. I also just haven't really felt that any of MMC's recent figures are worth getting. Their Alpha Wing and upcoming IDW Drift look pretty good though.

I do think that this figure looks absolutely brilliant. Hopefully mmc will release a 3rd party galvatron in the future. I do think that this guy should have come with a rodimus star or a couple more alternative faces, but that's neither here nor there. Thanks for the video Bobby , keep up the great work.

I can't decide if mmc have slumped a bit or if they just have't progressed like the other 3rd parties, so they are not up to current standards. Or a bit of both. This looks nice but space constraints have pretty much killed off more idw bots.

Why the disappointment that the chest piece is unpainted, but molded yellow plastic? It seems like that's a really great solution (and seemingly more expensive solution) that results in better color saturation.

Another one of the very few rods I'm missing. I've been looking everywhere for a red one but there are literally none for sale online and haven't been for a long time. Don't get me wrong, the purple and black ones are both cool...but I'm not gonna get them until I have my red one. If anyone reading this has a red Calidus and is looking to sell it, please for the love of God get in touch with me!
You prob know by now, but mmc is doing a reissue of this figure! Will be out sometime(dont remember the date) in 2021.
So what do you think the odds are that they will do a redeco in his Lost Light series colors as either a TFCon exclusive or re-release?

With the recent figures I've seen, it really seems they love making toys and are sick of making hole-fillers. Think about how the enthusiasm they had for Strika and how it dropped on Roadbuster. Factor in a 75% chance of a 3rd party Roadbuster War, can you honestly blame them? It's like asking someone to copy their painting in different colors.....
Or a john stuffing holes for a living.
maybe but i wish theyd concentrate on making one good figure instead of having it work for multiple characters via repaint potential by sacrificing mold aesthetics for all

There IS a black one, it's a shattered glass so its black and purple, as well as a cornflower blue and light purple one called Calidus Luminus.
@@tbonbrad they use this car model for their version of Galaxy Force Override as well just with different detailing and colors of course. Its called Nitro and it is gorgeous. I legitimately thought it was Thunderclash at first due to the coloring, it looks very cybertronian. Very cool. I'm buying one as soon as I can find a red Calidus
