I remember when Siskel and Ebert had a show in which they talked about some of their "guilty pleasures". Infra-Man was one of Roger's favorites. I always loved this movie as well.
One of the funnier moments involves a monster henchman briefly breaking character and helping the doctor off the boat, then going back to his “monster” pose. 😆
The most awkward boat ride ever. But I like that Princess Dragon Mom commissioned a thematic speedboat for her hench-monsters and hostages. Quite thoughtful of her.
5:18 Wow! I didn't know Sarah Jane Smith appeared on Power Rangers! 5:48 I really love your "Science Advisor," Robin! The look on her face at the end of the video is precious.
@@calvinfranklyn5499 Especially the clothes she was wearing. They were exactly what Elisabeth Sladen often wore on Doctor Who (the one I remember most was magenta, which fit in well with the Doctor's costume).
A visit from The Science Advisor(s) _AND_ Princess Dragon Mom in one go?! This is indeed a glorious day 😁 One of my favorite “guilty pleasure” movies, and totally psyched to see it appear on my favorite movie review channel 🥰
as a child i was dropped off solo (70s!) to the theater to catch this first run having absolutely no idea what it was whatsoever- positively one of the greatest times i have ever had at the cinema.
For sheer oddball lunacy, you can't beat the scene with the professor sitting between two monsters on a speedboat, and then emerging into...what is that supposed to be, Hell? It looks like a He-Man-themed playground.
My friends and I are getting ready to make our first film and we think it should be a superhero movie. We want to have his main weaponry be plastic spoons and forks from fast food restaurants. His name will be Single Use Plastic Man.
One of my favorite things about this movie is that the basic plot is the same as Devilman,at least so far as what the villains whole deal is. I also loved how ultra violent it is
I saw this at the cinema, too. Was at the age where having an incoherent story and poor dubbing didn't matter, because... explosions and superhero fights!
Roger Ebert said that when they stopped making movies like this one, a light would go out of the world forever. BTW, I guessed it was a calculator. But I'm only a Math Advisor, not a Science Advisor.
Horseshoe-crab Man! & his sidekick Skate! He would have an oversized Mechanical Claw on his left hand that would have all kinds of nifty devices! (Sorta a Sonic Screwdriver... which could also cut through Tungsten!)
I love that mechanical calculator. Nice touch as a tie into what was cutting edge at the time, the Hollerith Cards "Key Punch Cards" in the 1975 movie.
Wait a second, _Inframan!?!_ Did- did I click on DarkCorners Reviews or Brandon's Cult Movie Reviews? 🤔 Seriously though, it's great to see Robyn here tackle schlock like this occasionally. Dark Corners' reviews are so tight with the jokes, and its inherently funny watching someone so well-versed in _actual cinema_ make sense of fun nonsense like this 😄
I love the swaying green guy; they didn't show it here, but in the scene where the Professor is held hostage by the monsters, he manages to get into frame in every shot. Also, fun fact, the following year, the Shaw Bros. produced a second tokusatsu film, _Oily Maniac_ , which also starred Danny Lee as the title monster.
I saw this in the theater, when I was about 11 years old with my long suffering father, who just Sat there quietly, and successfully managed to will himself to go to sleep. I have no idea what I was expecting, I really do not remember, but I do strongly remember that whatever it was, I did not get it. I do remember them saying that he would be able to shoot a knife blade out of his hand, and I kept waiting for that, because it sounded really cool, but all we ever saw with those lame little semi circular, animated rays. I mentioned that to my dad and he said I am pretty sure those were supposed to be the knife blades I remember, trying to explain the movie to my friends the next Monday at school more than actually seeing the movie itself. For some reason I was trying to make it sound good because it was only like the fourth movie ever actually seen the theater.
I liked the part where Inframan steps on the bug monster a squishes him. Also, the actor who would later go on to become a Bruce Lee clone was part of the science team.
Wow! I just mentioned your guys' channel in a comment to Chris Stuckman's new video. He's making a new segment on his channel in which he will be reacting to older films; which is similar to what you guys do. Although... no one can duplicate Dark Corners Reviews. 🖖🏼
At school I came up with a character called Magma Man who I thought was the coolest thing ever invented, but my teacher advised me of the impracticality of a hero made of molten rock and made me write a different story. Thanks for stifling my youthful creativity Mrs Purvis!
I remember seeing this movie in the movie theater in 1975. I was 6 years old and recall some some guy yelling out "that guy has green blood" when the green tentacle monster got killed.
I always love seeing the Science Advisor and his Assistant! This movie has a special place for me. I remember going to see it with my uncles when I was quite young. Plus, the theater was giving away a Marzon, giant walking inflatable robot, which we had the winning ticket stub for! I miss stuff like that at the theater.
Well, seeing how you've posed the question...yes, I have indeed come up with my own live action superhero. He draws his amazing strength from the power of giant Japanese crustaceans. He's ROBSTER CRAW! Robster Craw to the Lescue! "O Save Me, Robster Craw! Save Me! Preeeessssee...!"
One of my favorite childhood movies. It appeared about every other year on the local UHF channel. It answers the question: "What if the Shaw Brothers made Power Rangers?"
My hero, Futureman, has the ability to phase himself one second into the future. Unfortunately, that makes him out of phase with current reality, in which he doesn't exist at all.
I managed a gaming store once. I was supposed to put the associated comic stores new anime releases on the TV. Instead, I played a continuous rotation of Robot Monster, Big trouble in Little China, Drunken Wu-Tang, and Infra-Man! I noticed eventually that regular customers would keep referencing Thunderball Fists...
I think the only way to describe this film is pure insanity. First off, there must have been heavy laughter from the UN delegates once they saw Princess Dragonman's outfit. As for my own superhero, I once accepted a friendly challenge to come up with a superhero character decades ago. I came up with Ryan Drake, Witchfinder. Basically, a sorcerer who also knows martial arts. Spike from Buffy, The Vampire Slayer was a big inspiration at the time.
I designed a superhero character some years ago; codenamed DARKSIDE, he was to be a zero -tolerance vigilante, garbed in black and red, caped, with the strength of twenty men, invulnerability, flight, and energy blasts from his hands. He would use deadly force against murderers, rapists, drug dealers, and child molesters.
Want a double-feature? This movie and 1966’s _Ôgon batto!_ It’s _The Golden Bat_ for those of us who speak English better than we speak Japanese! If you’re lucky, you can find it subtitled. Kinda similar, kinda different…and wonderfully crazy! And if it matters, a young Sonny Chiba has a featured role!
I saw this in the theatre sometime in the 1970’s. I thought it was the greatest movie I’d ever seen. Now remember this pre-dated the TV version of the MCU, Superman and Star Wars…….it was a bleak, bleak time.
I’m guessing Jet Jaguar ALSO bears a little “inspiration” from Ultraman, and in naming your character Inframan and giving him lasers, giant powers and Thunderball fists is just ASKING for a Toho lawsuit. Although when our college-festival theater audience watched it, there was a bit of breakout-character cheer for the one unconscious lab guard after the attack, who regains consciousness just long enough to tell the hero “They went that way!”
I saw this at a dollar theater in 1977. My best friend and I were 12. It was the greatest movie we'd ever seen.
YES!! Awesome movie!
As Roger Ebert said in 1976: "When they stop making movies like Infra-Man, a little light will go out of the world."
I remember when Siskel and Ebert had a show in which they talked about some of their "guilty pleasures". Infra-Man was one of Roger's favorites. I always loved this movie as well.
Yes! Ebert pointed out that so many movies promise things, but never deliver. But INFRA-MAN delivered!
As it did, indeed.
One of the funnier moments involves a monster henchman briefly breaking character and helping the doctor off the boat, then going back to his “monster” pose. 😆
agreed
The most awkward boat ride ever. But I like that Princess Dragon Mom commissioned a thematic speedboat for her hench-monsters and hostages. Quite thoughtful of her.
I love a science advisor who comes armed with a hammer.
Siscel and Ebert both gave this thing rave reviews just for being so balls-to-the-wall nutso and fun.
Now that the Science Advisor has shown an old-fashioned calculator, we need him to show a genuine abacus.
Love the Science Advisor. Related to my mom..."..what do you think about.." "No". LOL.
Excellent idea.
Gotta love those Dr. Who convention films! Not to mention TWO science advisors on hand!
I played bass in Thunderball Fist for a brief period in the early 90's.

Roger Ebert listed this among his guilty pleasures.
"Everything in this movie EXPLODES! BOOOM! Inframan shoots lasers, BOOOM! Alien monster throws spaceman, BOOOM! Inframan throws dynamite, BOOM! Inframan smashes control panel, BOOOM! BOOOM!!! BOOOOM!! BOOOOOOM!!!!"-James Rolfe.

5:18 Wow! I didn't know Sarah Jane Smith appeared on Power Rangers!

The newer MST3K's Skeleton Crew looks a lot like the henchmen

Some might say it's too spoon after the Blue Raja used cutlery in Mystery Men. Personally, I say what the fork - go for it!
Sporkman is much more elegant, though.
Read the culture, Single Use Plastic Man would be a villain.

The new Science Adviser is adorable! Glad to see the Dark Corners science team has expanded.
I am so glad that we got a few seconds of the “Jet Jaguar” theme song!

I did notice the Teletype in the secret Science HQ in China was printing in English.

I'm going to have to watch this movie.
Dragon Mom's goons, the guys with the devil horns on their helmets, remind me of the Boneheads from seasons 11-12 of Mystery Science Theater 3000.
What the world really needs is a crossover between this film and Indonesia's "The Devil's Sword".
