  • In this video two in-depth topics are discussed by the world-famous Bonsai master Masahiko Kimura; fertilizing and designing the directional branch of a Bonsai. The topic of fertilization is covered in other courses on Bonsai Empire extensively, but in this case it is very interesting to hear mr. Kimura's thoughts about do's and dont's regarding fertilizer selection and application.
Setting the directional branch is a substantial topic as well, and it is a decisive factor in styling a Bonsai. Mr. Kimura explains how he approaches the directional branch, and the steps he takes before he starts to wire and set the branch in position. Also, he tries to mimic the movement of the trunk into his desired shape of the branches.
This video is a free lecture from mr. Kimura's new Masterclass, for more information go to:

For a tree like this Bonsai practitioners generally select a tree that already has the trunk thickness and the general features they're looking for. Respectfully, but so you have the right expectations, it would be very unrealistic to expect a beginner bonsai tree to grow into something on the same level as what you see in this video.
More realistically you can expect to appreciate the tree you were gifted for the features it already has and work with what inspiration it offers you, and use that to help guide its development.
Hope your tree is still growing strong and you're still curious about Bonsai btw, it's a cool hobby with plenty to learn if you really get into it :)
