They’re a major investment - aside from the monthly payment, consider insurance, crane certifications, cribbing material, registration and tags, and maintenance. We run ours about 3 days a week but the cost is there everyday so when you run numbers make sure to account for that.

@treesbyjake wifey and I run a haulotte 5533a dump trailer vermeer miniskid and 362 stump grinder, average 2k aday. We have been 2 to 3 months out for 2 years straight. But 22 years in business. Wondering about the next step. 80 to 100k in work lined up all year.

There’s not really a science to knowing what equipment to buy next, lots of factors to consider and it’s different for every business. Some companies buy a crane when they don’t gross the cost, others wait until they gross well over. Run your numbers and look at your profit - if you have enough profit each month to cover the crane expenses then you have to decide if there’s enough profit left that you’re comfortable with the purchase and if your current workload can handle the overhead.
