      The still pictures of the old adaptation are amazing. I do like how the new adaptation take more consideration to weight and velocity, the biggest mistake they really did was to rush through one and a half arcs to get to the juicy bits. Would serve for really great hype as to how guts grow.

      Definitely think you're wrong. You can barely tell what 1997 is trying to convey with the many awkward cuts. I think both scenes poorly show that guts is holding back, but so does the manga, nobody expected guts to pull a punch and he still did despite the massive weight of his blade. It's much more impactful and shown with the 2022 that focuses on the interaction entirely, without jumping to random unnecessary closeups.

      @@xpumbrelladx9360 You're right and wrong at the same time. You can't tell that Guts is attempting to control his strike in order to not harm Griffith; which is a perfect. Instead you get a sense of "oh my god, he's looks like he's trying to kill him", which is something we've not seen Guts struggle with throughout the show. It does this so that when you finally get the realization that he used all that effort to make sure he'd avoid hitting Griffith (while also winning the duel), it hits that much harder.
      In the 2022 version, the only weight in his swing seems to come from the thrust of wind. While in the 97 version, the weight is anticipated beginning with the first movement.

    • @voidishprattles4319
      @voidishprattles4319 Год назад +57

      @@bagusarif1199 that wasn't it at all tho. He talks about how Guts was someone who made him question his dream. It wasn't that Guts was stronger, it was that Griffith had lost control of the one thing he'd loved more than his dream, and when he realized that, he gave up. "You only know what you had once you've lost it" kind of thing. He went to sleep with Charlotte knowing it was the best way to ruin everything he'd built for himself. We see how insanely meticulous he is in the castle, manipulating and assassinating all his rivals. He wouldn't make such a choice for no reason.
      I'm sorry but viewing it the way you do just removes all of the tragedy and depth to it. The entire theme of berserk is struggling against fate, and the entire downfall of Griffith into Femto is to show us the power of fate, how through sheer circumstance and manipulation by powers outside our control, even someone as powerful as Griffith is helpless.
      Griffith was fated to become Femto and there was nothing that could stop that. The whole idea of Guts being unable to die, born from a corpse, raised by mercenaries, abandoned to fend for himself. He should have been dead multiple times but hes not, and the implication is that he survived because fate was pulling him to Griffith so he could serve as the ultimate pawn in his transformation. Hence why he is branded after Griffith transforms, he was supposed to die and that was supposed to be the end of his role.
      It's a horror concept... About fate. That's the point of the show, and how Guts lives to resist this. Starting the Dark Age arc Guts is his true self and every single day he had to fight against fate trying to kill him with hordes and hordes of demons. It's an impossible victory but he continues to fight regardless.
      If you simplify Griffith to just "Le evil cry baby" then you also simplify Guts to "Le angry sword man" and both characters are so much more than that.

    honestly Griffith is one of those people who seem to be an all knowing and caring leader who seem to be after your own good, but in reality they are sociopaths who are only doing this cause this gives them a sense of power and control, this duel between Gut's and Griffith exposed that as Griffith realized that the once weaker and inferior Guts is now stronger than him and doesn't need him anymore, i feel bad for the Hawks but i guess Berserk really captures how a very good Sociopath can be really dangerous and deceiving, how they would sacrifice everything for their goals

    • @fedoradaveneckbeardextraor2155
      @fedoradaveneckbeardextraor2155 Год назад +38

      i do think that was the intention. This moment is meant to signify that guts no longer has any need for griffith, and so he feels as though he has lost a major part of himself. He never thought that guts could ever live without him, and that mistake cost him greatly.

    • @alexvazquez5087
      @alexvazquez5087 11 месяцев назад +16

      I mean right on the money. Griffith made guts his personal weapon. He was his arm. And guts wanting to leave was akin to him losing a part of himself. So when he lost there was fear and disbelief. This man he so easily bested, that he brought to heel is now towering over him and Griffith lost his focus. What i love the most is guts in his inner monologue saying you can get passed. Truly believing he wasn't important

    1997: you felt griff was super powerful, he had trained hard and couldn’t be defeated easily until guts literally stopped him like an impenetrable wall
    2022: guts has a big sword, look at his strength

    The director from the 1997 knew how to tell a story and make it impactful. The 2022 visuals were good but that’s it.

    I'm always amazed at the raw strenght of guts, he swings that shit full force, enough force to just blitz another sword clean right, and then he just dead stops it, without leaving so much as a scratch on Griffith's garb
