One of the best tutorials for NNM out there. Clear concise explanations on methods with diagrams. And not an air brush in sight, perfect for us horse hair on a stick peasants like me. Bravo!
These are probably the best guides out there for painting a mini in general regardless of style. Showing the breakdowns of what and why you are doing them, The color mixing ratios, and diagrams are super helpful!
I’ve been trying various black NMM tutorials and have never been fully satisfied. This one looks awesome and I look forward to trying it out this weekend
His and my sentiments exactly, amazing work and most thorough walk thru I’ve seen myself. Did subscribe. Sure I’m among the masses who will be doing so.
very great NMM tutorial, i have been trying nmm on aromur for many time which is not good enough. The analysis about 3 sets of reflection: primary, secondary and tertiary reflection really help!!!!
Your NMM tutorials are the most helpful I've ever seen on RUclips. Have you considered showing NMM on non-Astartes? Eldar, Votann, Stormcast, Tau. So much armor to make shiny, so little time...
Thank you so much. I also have a very huge problem at blending everything is fine until blending but i cant seem to get the fat glaze constintency. Any advice to get the right amount of water and paint? Thank you. @@merlinsmagicworkshop9192
I absolutely love these tutorials! I really hope you get around to doing a space wolves NMM. Thats my army and I am at a loss for what paints to use xD.
Hi and thanks for your comment ! Next will be white 😁. I show my simplifoed gold and silver recipe in all videos when i do the trims or aquila, but for a full space marine version, gold and silver will be covered in a future video series showong more advanced NMM effect, cheers !
Great NMM tutorial ;) would you consider making nmm tutorial to something mechanical? Maybe dreadnought furiosa? A lot of flat and round nmm, pipes and etc it would be great :)
Damn it, now I have to try this on one of my Martyred Lady Palatines. The smaller scale and sharper armour should make it quite striking, and if I screw it up it's so small it'll be hard to notice :P
Awesome video. I now am gonna try to tackle this on my autarch! My army is a traditional ulthwe scheme but I use more neutral Grey's ( citadel line) Any advice on the colors for the staircase gradation? My thoughts were black, 50/50 eshin/black, eshin, 50/50 dawnstone/eshin and dawnstone at the very top.
Love the video. I’m painting an emperors champion and I’m trying to copy this. The shape of his armor is a bit odd. Any suggestions on how to work it? Thanks!!!
Hi ! The 9dea is to break the miniature into simple shapes (sphere, cylinder or cube) and then define your highlight shape accordingly (circle, rectangle or square). Place the main highlight toward the main source light (for example on top of the shape if you define zenithal light) and second highlight toward the ground. Finally you can place tertiary reflections in places facile another part of the miniature. Check out my first video (blue NMM), where I explain the process with a bit more details. Cheers !
@@merlinsmagicworkshop9192 another question if you have a moment. On the emperors champion, the helmet had the rectangular shape where his mouth would be. You wouldn’t put primary light sources on both sides? Also he has the extra weird shaped hip plates that would be cylinders, but bend most of the way up. Would you still just paint the “rectangle” shape up the whole panel?
One thing I haven’t found out is that which night blue was really used in the video, the night blue (av72019) or the mystic blue (av72411)? Thanks for your attention😊.
Hi ! Well I'm not so sure about that 😅 it is true that the blending process may be faster, but if you take into considération the drying time and the proper cleaning of the tools, for a single miniature it is not so straight forward, cheers !
It is more then that ,if you know how to do it, drying time should be no problem + even whole armys with nmm is at least always faster , if you know how to do it, Oil is King ;)@@merlinsmagicworkshop9192
It’s an amazing effect you achieved but as someone who’s trying to get to grips with NMM this isn’t simplified at all . I feel for beginners we need a way where we don’t have to mix so many colours and possibly less steps to achieve something similar
Hi and thanks for your comment! It's true that the black scheme is not the easiest in term of mixing, that's actually the main difficulty with black, because we need to deal with subtle grey tone variations. For beginners I would suggest to start with blue or green, to get used to the process
Hi and thanks for your message ! Indeed there are many ways to approach this "color", and with reflective surfaces the spread of light also strongly depends on the environnement. A lot of interesting variants

How long did this one marine take?
Hi, about 8 hours, but with a bit of optimisation it can probably be reduced to 5 or 6
Imagine how fast you can reach that with oils :D

Wonderful tutorial. I prefer to keep 60% of the area in black and 40% for reflections. You went more 50/50 which is not really my cup of tea.
