richard hearne, mr pastry

Richard Hearne was primarily an acrobat who had great success playing elderly gentlemen. He created the character Mr Pastry and was one of the earliest stars of the new invention Television broadcast by the BBC. He was loved by generations of children and by grown ups for his comic routines such as dancing the Lancers.

He was top of the bill when I were a lad, and so far as I'm concerned he's still right up there.

I had colonoscopy one time. All the while I kept hearing "The Lancers" which he did as "Mr. Pastry" on Ed Sullivan during the procedure.
