Israeli Journalist Gideon Levy: Israel Will Not Stop Wars & Occupation Until U.S. Pulls Support

Inside Israel, "there is no room for any question marks or doubts about this war," says journalist Gideon Levy, a columnist for Haaretz and a member of the newspaper's editorial board. He says war fever has taken over the country, with polls showing 93% support for the U.S.-Israeli war in Iran, Lebanon and beyond - at least among the Jewish public. "Israel is doing as much as it can," he says. "As long as the American support is so massive, so blind and so automatic, this will go on."
Levy also criticizes Israel's military censorship system that strictly limits publishing information about war damage and other material deemed to be counter to national security. He says much of it is driven by self-censorship by a press that sees itself as "an agency of the government and of the military establishment, and this is very worrying."

Agreed, I think the West needs to stop supporting Bibi Netanyahu and his empire building Crusade, killing everyone Bibi dislikes or hates and steal all their lands. See how tough Bibi and the IDF actually is, if there wasn't a billion dollars (US) by US TAXPAYERS, which is being spent every day in bombing Iran. Bibi is all talk and no trousers if TRump just stopped being his sycophantic patsie. If Bibi want to kill every Muslim on earth, then leave him to his own devices,, don't join in the genocide. US service people coming home in body bags for a war Bibi wants, this war is not America's, but the US will suffer decades of terrorist reprisals due to being Bibis pawn.

Not brave at all. The level of dissent in Israel is equal to or more vociferous than the US. Commentators and reports speak out very openly and candidly against their government with no repercussions. One of the many reasons they have aligned with western cultures well.

Point taken but it can be both a war and a genocide. For me it’s a simple matter of acknowledgment of and respect for Palestinian fighters who have stood their ground and continued to fight. Who even now continue to make the complete takeover of Gaza impossible.
They don’t have to win an impossible war against their enemies to win. What they have to do is stay alive and continue to stand their ground on their own land.

What can be said about this information that we hear from this kind man from Israel about what is happening there… except simply to say that we must never forget what the USA has done for this project, which could never have been realized without it.
USA government politicians, billionaires, trillionaires, and trillion-dollar companies that are involved in this have blood on their hands up to above the elbows.
We must never forget how much suffering they have caused to the Palestinian people, and currently the suffering is affecting the entire Middle East and even African countries.
How can this be processed by the mind of a rational and reasonable person without that person remaining morally stable and emotionally torn into pieces?
Thanks to Gideon Levy for his selfless reporting and for putting himself and his family in a very uncomfortable and difficult position.
Well done America for your selfless support of injustice and the killing of civilians, the plundering and conquering of territories… blocking resolutions and placing vetoes on the cessation of war conflicts.
If this is the spreading of democracy and democracy itself - giving human rights and freedoms - I gladly accept that this democracy never sees the light of day, and I would gladly choose to live in the Middle Eastern states in the time before the creation of Israel, when Muslims, Jews, Christians, and others lived in prosperity, mutual respect, support, and coexistence that was normal for an ordinary person seeking a worthy and dignified life.
To live in a country that looks like a large concentration camp and say that it is the only Middle Eastern democracy… is like saying that a butcher will perform the most complicated surgical operation on your body.
    P E A C E !

It would be comforting to think that, but Zionism predates Nazism (both Austrian, incidentally) and they were conducting themselves like this in the late 19th century, and were already well under way with their terrorism of Palestinians when the Brownshirts emerged. In reality, Nazism was fighting Zionism for ethnosupremacist dominance, one would have to conclude?

He's being coy and basically just saying: "slow down! not so obvious!!". Eretz Israel has been the agenda since day one in 1948 and he certainly knows it. Liberal and revisionists zionists are two sides of the same coin. Don't forget that Mussolini (buddies w/ Netanyahu's father's mentor Zev Jabotinsky) was head of the top Marxist newspaper in Italy before (very quickly) re-inventing himself as fascist. His main "a ha" moment was realizing in the aftermath of WW1 that the masses are not willing to die for class struggle, bit they damn well ~will~ die for _"their" country._ The rest fell into place, and quite rapidly.

Most of the Israelis are quite secular and not religously motivated - so Judaism does not matter. - and Jews and Israelis are not the same. Younger New York Jews are critical of the state of Israel - But you must look at the Zionists that were active in Palestine. WHO came from 1880, 1890 on when the Osman Empire still ruled (and had ensured peaceful co-existence for approx. 400 years). Highly ideological Zionists from Central Euroe. Often well educated even wealthy individuals. Opressive laws had been lifted in the more developed European countries thanks to the enlightenment, Jewish citizens did well there was jealousy of the rest of the population. Some Jews were done with it a and did not want to put up with (covert, informal) discrimination anymore. Most European Jews wanted to be fully integrated / accepted citzens, but some thought they needed their own colonial state (founded with the help of other powerful states).
And as part of the bourgousie those Zionists had on average the same prejudices as the middle and upper middle class of their time - minus anti Jewish sentiment of course. So those Zionist liked colonialism and driving out the lowly natives and the not lily white people with darker skin to seize control over land - that was totally O.K. It was not O.K. when _they_ were discriminated against. But a lot of Zionist had no problem to discriminate against Arabs. And Palestine was not the only future homeland that was discussed. A colony in Africa or Asia or Latin America would also have been O.K. And as this was to be a settler state, the locals had to be driven out or killed (this logical conclusion was not overtly announced even in 1880 that was too much for general sensitivities).
So Zionists with a land grabbing agenda and fierce convictions about their rights (entitlement) came to Palestine under the Osman empire. With the dream of a Zionist Supremacist state and they did not think anything was wrong with that. But under the Osman rule they were too few and the rulers would not have tolerated trouble makers anyway.
The other group that came as early and in higher numbers were Jews from Eastern Europe. In Poland and Russia and what is Ukraine today (who controlled what territory changed often, it is a "border" region. And the population moved around a lot, was exposed to different languages and cultures. But in the last decades before and until end of WW1 Ukraine was part of the Russian empire. Russia, Poland had a tradition of having progroms and to not let Jews settle with the general polation. Ghetto was a Polish term and it existed long before the Germans occupied. Then it became a terrible place to leave, and they could not even leave during day.
It was especially bad in what is now West Ukraine (then belonging to Russia, but there was some Polish influence for historical reasons - which did not help regarding contempt towards Jews).
Anyway even as late as 1900 they had progroms in the Russian empire and the czar could not or would not stop that. Huge territory, underdevelopped, somewhat local events but affecting a lot of people. - comparable to extended mob attacks and lynchings.
So the people that fled to Palestine then, usually were traumatized, pissed off, often poor, often undereducated but with an appreciation for education being open to them. Likely with little empathy for the suffering of other people too busy with survival and their own trauma. The Zionists bought up land from absent feudal land owners ignored the traditional grazing and water rights of the locals. The wealthy (European) Zionists controlled the funds and the land, and if a poor Jew from Russia want some help to get started and access to the land (as a lease) he or she better be aligned with the Zionist agenda. And their children grew up in that system of beliefs.
Late 1920s the first violent clashes. Between Arabs and Jews. Both population groups had grown a lot, the Jewish much much more. I think they had reached 30 % of the population, so massive, massive immigration. Arabs also could read the Balfour Declaration, observed behavior (the Zionists settlements were often not very neighbourly. Driving out old tenants, locals. Only leasing to Jews (aligned Jews). Later leading Zionists objected that non-Jews were even employed as farm hands. That worked because they had a large influx of Eastern European / Russian Jews that made up the lower working class.
Then have a look at the guerialla / terrorist groups that were at large since the 1930. There were Arab revolts, a General strike, and the Brits needed to concentrate on WW2 so they did not allow anymore migration to Palestine during WW2, so to not antagonize the Arabs / Palestinians even more.
People migrated a lot in the region, what is Jordan, Syria, Egypt now .... that was normal and the Osmans had secured the peace for several centuries.
The people that came until the end of WW2 were dyed in the wool Zionists and convinced they were entitled and also that "They" would get them if they did not lash out before.
The most vicious guerilla leaders / leaders of terror groups became later the leaders of Israel, compare the names of Zionist terror acts, you will stumble upon a few names.
Netanjahu grew up in the U.S. His father was a fierce Zionist .....

    • @franziskani
      @franziskani 26 days ago +2

Fast forward 70 years (or more if you go back to 1880, 1890 this is when it really started). You have an entitled society, generational trauma, they are coming for us so let's get them first attitude, delusion, brainwashing (People that were children at the end of WW2) now have grand grandchildren - if they are still alive they are well into their 80s). JEWS are not entitled. Zionists and Israelis are (or way too many of them). And another thing. the people that saw the injustice often left. Because of the Holocaust they often could benefit from generous immigration laws, certainly in Europe. Starting with Germany, which is a large and wealthy nation.
Or the U.K. - it also has a large Jewish community since WW2 (or they came shortly before that).
So it was a self selection and self radicalization and brainwashing. The small language group plays a role, before the internet (when the Israeli "identity" and mindset was long settled) Isreal was a closed-off ecosystem. When it came to certain informations, politics and views on human rights (of Palestinians). Israely could live in a bubble while travelling a lot internationally. But the offical narrative was never challenged.
And they exerted enough influence on the owners of large media outlet, that this mindset was internationally validated.

    • @franziskani
      @franziskani 26 days ago

@versioncity1 Also consider how the new state of Israel got other Jews to leave their homes and businesses in North Africa and Arab states behind (underhanded tactics, false flag events). These people and tactics shaped the mindset of the new nation. They realized how valuable coercion, false flag, decapitation, and good control over media is. And then they detected the usefulness of refering to being victims of the Holocaust. Most people living in Israel in the 1950s and 1960s had not suffered directly from it nor had they lost family members.
      At the end of WW:
Jews either returned to to their home country in Europe or reappered from underground (if they were from Europe and had survived) and many even returned to Germany. The Allied forces made sure they were safe and their property rights were restored. Or there was the chance to get some money even if it had not yet been paid out when Israel was founded. So why would a Dutch, French, German Jew migrate to a newly founded nation, with (rightfully) hostile neighbours - if they wanted "pioneer" life, maybe more war, and uncertainty they could have that in Europe (but still under much better and much more predictable conditions). I do not think surviving Jews felt unsafe in daily life after the Nazis were beaten, not even in Germany. Not the psychological effect but what they consciously knew.
(I know people whose grandparents survived, and the mother was tiny when the war ended) they returned to Berlin also hoping for a restoration of some of their property. Did not work out, it was in the Soviet controlled area, and the Soviets were not keen on private property rights.
But I guess they got something from the provisory state and later the new Federal Republic.
If people could not stomach to stay where people had betrayed them (at least some, think France, Netherlands, ... ) they might have considered to emigrate - but then why not try for Canada, the U.S. or another European country, ....
So Israel had to MAKE Jews come. The religious crowd would come no questions asked, but especially the highly educated, secular, wealthy and young Jews from Europe and the U.S. had better plans. And the European Jews that had been taken in by the U.K. when the Nazi persecution started, were also not eager to come. Sure there was post war rationing and the recovery was more sluggish than on the continent. But things got better and at least they knew life, customs and LANGUAGE.
So for the state of Israel in desperate needs of new settlers coming quickly (to outnumber the Arabs in the land and to staff the military) - underhanded tactics towards the Arab / North African Jews it was. To make them come and become the very much needed new settlers. The (Easter)n European Jews were at the top of the hierarchy (I think they still are, the ruling class of Israel is of Eastern european descent. Netanjahu's family was from Poland and he had a fitting name, before he changed it).
The Arab Jews were less than - but they were needed.
Jews from North Africa, Syria, Iraq .... were more religious (Next Year In Jerusalem, praying for the return was part of the religious customs) and Israel also used coercion (paying hooligans vandalizing Jewish businesses - no harm to life or body. Property damage and scaring them about the alleged new hostility by their Arab neighbours. Or bombing synagogues - usually the false flag event was meant not to harm humans especially not Jews, but to scare Jews and to forment tensions between the main population and the Jews. Also colluding with a dictatorial monarch, if that was an option, so they would repress Jews to motivate them also to leave (not sure either Morocco or Algier, look it up). Money, military and diplomatic backup of the U.S. of course. One such monarchy was finacially compensated for the favour.
The U.S. wanted a little colonial European settler state / outpost. with more valuable white people and even if they were Jews they were still closer than people with browner skin. So the new state of Israel could be leveraged to promote U.S. and U.K. interests, it was a landing strip in case there would be problems with oil (or war looming).
So that outside mindset also did not promote the gently, fairly minded progressive people into leadership.
Israel presented a partially progressive face - to the world for PR reasons and also for their own citizens (the people with rights), to have a certain, modern narrative. That would also attract highly educated people once the state was better established.
Later (after the first Nabka, so they did not see that or participate) the traumatized survivors of the Holocaust arrived (they were long seen as an embarrassement to Jews, Zionism). only later the Holocaust Industry (as Norman Finkelstein, also Jew calls it) developped, and the Holocaust card was strategically exploited.
Until the late 1950s / into the 1960s the Holocaustwas not much talked about. Zionists did not want Jews to be seen as victims.
The new lore was: were terribly persecuted, but in the end they rose like Pheoenix out of the ashes.
Not granting Palestinians anything relevant kept tensions high. A society where "we are out to get us, let's close the ranks" is brainwashed into generations ... that is very helpful for _certain_ parties and politicians.
And takeing the property of driven out Palestinians was lucrative. Early days Zionists had made a good cut when they were among the leaders (of the militias) or become part of the early political and administrative elites. They had of course access to stolen and attractive property. These people continued to be in charge, so they could keep the spoils of war.

@Bazza5000 Its a whole circle of elites and the governments they control through media manipulation bribery and rigging of global financial systems oil and particular industries in which they have heavily invested into in particular the military industrial complex and fossil fuels that have advantageous profit margins when violence and unrest occurs in the Middle East region. Naturally it has serious ramifications for the rest of the global economy but they don't care about that only about increasing their own profit margins for a larger return on investment. This political doctrine has been especially powerful since the end of WW2 when the USA emerged as the sole effective global hegemonic power and chose to establish its empire on oil and military aggression across the globe.
Breaking the cycle of violence will require attacking the systemic roots of this system recognizing that American influence is weakening as the roots of its economic empire are basically killing our civilization in multiple compounding ways while domestically leading to ballooning oversized debts, of which the billionaire class collects large interest payment returns funded entirely by American tax dollars and foreign wars as the Neoliberal establishment schemes to cut government services and the social safety net wherever possible to protect their overstretched petrochemical military industrial complex for as long as they can. Their violent escalation is in many respects a last mad rush to take as much as they can before this ship fully sinks so they can invest into their new techno feudal mass surveillance scheme to place themselves as the new nobility positioned to use autonomous weapons and terror to repress the discontent masses having taken 20th century dystopian fictions warnings as inspiration.
Organize and attack their foreign wars, their efforts to lock in fossil fuel investments and the energy expensive data centers which are cornerstone to their new AI surveillance Police state scheme, backing autonomous weapons and targeted assassinations of political enemies while locking in a new market they control for their fossil fuels to counter against the rise of green energy.
Its all connected and only attacking them at all angles and raising awareness about this to catalyze more organized grass roots resistance will be able to finally put an end to their long reign of violence, propaganda, weaponized terror and gaslighting.

Va multumesc dle Levy si Democracy Now , multumesc !
