Thank you for showing this comparison in such detail - and thank you so much to Oneness Emporium for facilitating it! I think I prefer the original? The changed images are interesting and I’d love to know why the artist made the revisions. But many of the actual images on the new cards seem oddly cropped - with banners, plants etc chopped off quite crudely? I expected the images to be the same just minus the borders… I’m happy to keep my 1st edition.
I don't have this deck but love the vibrant design and colours on both versions. Overall I prefer the new version for the mat finish, the smaller size, the beautiful edging and I also like the new updated images. It's a winner for me. Thanks Simon. x🙏🍁💕
Thank you so much for this side-by-side comparison, Simon!😊 The new edition has some lovely qualities, but many of the cards are missing art along the edges because of cropping issues. The Yin Yang symbol on Temperance, several parts of the requisite "firey bones" on many cards, and even a moon are absent. Love the red edging, though!❤
Thank you for posting this video. I love the red borders on the cards but am not a fan of several of the changes especially the Empress and Queen of Cups. Also, many cards are cropped losing detail. The Fool card especially as a large portion of her elbow is gone. I've bought several extra copies of the older deck as it is my favorite deck. I've cut the borders off of a copy and it is very difficult because the card images aren't the same size. I edged my borderless copy in black sharpie as the glaring difference in image size isn't so noticeable. I wish artist would include the old and new cards so users would have a choice. I doubt I will purchase the new edition.
I have 1st edition. I love the gloss which adds the the weirdness of the deck. The biggest thing I love about edition 1 is the vibrancy of the colours. I've not seen the new ones except virtually
I know this video was a while ago but I just subscribed to your channel and glad to find this - I have the newest version of this deck and always wondered what the differences were - very glad I chose the new one. I don’t think much is lost by the tight trimming and the colours are vibrant in person. And i love the matt & edging. Great deck, even better guidebook. Thanks for the vid!
I never really wanted the Bonefire, it just wasnt a deck that ever really called to me. But our tastes do change as our practice grows and expands and somehow, suddenly this 2nd ed. just called. I really do like the more muted colours, and I do love most of the new cards. Thank you Simon, I could have purchased the 1st ed. But after watching your flip through comparison I'm definitely getting the 2nd. (I prefer matte card stock visually for my older eyes and I have small hands so the new size is a positive for me). Love the coloured backs too! Thank you again, I really appreciate your commentary and thoughts. ❤️
Lovely comparison, thank you... I bought the original because I love how vibrant the colours are against the deep, inky blue, but yes, the gloss doesn't slide making them stick when shuffling, so was interested to so the matt version. I understand they've changed some characters to add diversity and I like the red edging, but they do look dull & I don't like how, or understand why they've cut into the images so much? If you've never seen the original deck, it might be OK. They've gone to so much effort to improve the deck, but have equally spoilt it too. I'm more than happy to stick with the beautiful original deck. I may just trim the words off the bottom, re-corner & I've got either a metallic lime or metallic orange to edge it in, I'm still deciding which... 😍
The Bonefire is one of my prized possessions. I'll get the second edition because it has improved perfection. 😮 Have a great get- away, and I'm looking forward to a vlog! Much love, Simon, from Leece ❤
Thank you for the side by side, Simon. I've been waiting for the second edition as I'm not a fan of high gloss at all - it's a deal breaker for me - but I do think it's a real shame that the colours are muted in this second edition.
I love this second edition and have had it on my wishlist for ages, those orange edges are so cool! The cards are bit smaller than I thought they would be but still really nice and of course a lovely matte cardstock. Thank you for the great comparison my friend, definitely getting this one 😍❤️
Thank you for doing this walk through. I bought the first edition more for the great guidebook than for the deck. I like the color backs on the new edition, the box, and a few of the new images but I, overall, prefer the larger cards. I don't think I really need the new edition.
Really appreciate the side by side thank you Simon. I don’t have any version of this deck. I’m really liking the changes to include women at the helm of their crone years.
Hi Simon! Thank you for the walk-through; I didn't know there was a second edition out. Gaby's original indy version did not have the repeated titles at bottom. I believe that Kelly Bear did a video on that one. It would be great to see all three side by side. I have the same version as you and am mixed about whether to buy the new one. I do love the colored backs and some of the new images but other cards are not as vibrant but if they weren't side by side one wouldn't notice...hmm. Anyway thanks and please have a safe trip!!
Thank you kindly Simon!🙏 Great video! 👍 I didn't know about this deck. I just finished ordering the first edition and pre-ordered the second edition. Here In the USA, the second edition is scheduled for release on November 29, 2023.
Thanks for this - I also noticed the images are cut off - eg if you look at the fool her elbow isn't all there etc. I thought that would annoy me too much but actually I love the new artwork - think I'm going to have to get it - must remember not to watch walkthroughs😄😄😄
I do prefer borders on this deck also the changed Chariot glad I’ve got my edition. I do like some of the new aged art. Thanks for the walk through Simon
I have had the prerelease order for this 2nd ed bouncing in and out of my Amazon basket for months now ( I juggle pre orders around each time I cave in to buy another deck!). Great to see it here as I’m not familiar with earlier version...it’s just been on my general wish list for ages. I like the matte finish and edgings and although I can see the newer version is less vibrant ( gaudy..?) I really like the smaller size...I shall order from oneness emporium as had my first delivery from them recently and their presentation box etc has the luxury feel of an indie deck 😊
I’m so glad there’s an edition without the extra text at the bottom. Since the titles are in the artwork it always bugged me that they were repeated underneath. Thank you for sharing this, Simon.
Although the art style would not be top of the list for me, the content of the cards is so thought provoking it compensates for this. I will add this to my decks for someday list, which is quite long!
Not a deck for me, but I do like the second edition better. I can't embrace sexpot imagery. I appreciate that the whorish drag queen makeup has been toned down. The art style reminds me of the Samiramay decks. It might have been nice if they could've boosted the saturation to compensate for what the gloss provided. I don't usually like it when they change imagery between editions, but this was interesting to see the evolution side by side. Maybe by a 3rd edition, it'll be ready for me. That Magician looks worried.
I think I mentioned recently that I choose a deck for each astrological season and I ultimately chose the Forhaxa for Aries but it was between that and the Bonefire. Part of the reason was all the fire and blazing red so it's interesting that it's more muted in this version. In some ways I prefer the muted version though maybe because the art is so busy. Both are beautiful though. Thanks for the comparison.

Glad it was helpful in that regard 🙏🏼❤️
THIS comparison was so brilliant to see! Thank you, Simon for doing this video! xx
You're so welcome, lovely 😊
Interesting comparison! I think it is a shame though that the new images are cut down (especially the symbols), but they do look easier to handle.
Much easier 😍

You’re welcome. Enjoy 😉
I prefer the vibrant colours and most images of the 1st edition, although I could do without the black borders.

Fair points!

Thank you Simon for a lovely walk through. I have the deck available to ship straight out, as I don't have to wait for the UK release date 😊😊
Woohoo! Chris will be thrilled 😁

Hi Simon I still like the the one with the boards as think easy to read but I like the new backs and size on new ones

ну, тебя никогда не может быть слишком много
Really appreciate the side by side thank you Simon. I don’t have any version of this deck. I’m really liking the changes to include women at the helm of their crone years.
Agreed 👍
I just ordered the second edition, and I am excited to compare on my own as I also have the first edition. Thanks for sharing Simon!
You’re welcome ☺️

🤣🤣🤣
They look washed out. I prefer the older version. 😊
But the card stock is so much better (in my preference 😊)
I know it's not common but I prefer borders on my cards.
I do for certain cards 😍
I do prefer borders on this deck also the changed Chariot glad I’ve got my edition. I do like some of the new aged art. Thanks for the walk through Simon

This is sad it’s not available until three months in uk , I would definitely to have it for Christmas
Oneness Emporium has a couple of copies, they are in the UK.

Love that satiny orange cloth underneath, did you get it online? If so, link? :P

Second edition.. sweet let's see if they are different as I pull out 1st edition 😅
Enjoyed!!!
wow the second edition has a totally different vibe and feel. thanks Simon 🩵
