Thanks for watching! hopefully this helped you understand "hydrostatic tests". If you have questions leave them in the comments below and I'll answer them in a future episode
Hey Roger, Thank you for doing this video. I had a client bringing a plumber to a property to check for leaks. When I called the Co. they stated a Hydrostatic test was done to the property. My soul went up into the air and came back down! I search here to find out exactly what was a hydrostatic test and what you guys, plumbers do when inspecting these properties. Thank you for clarifying and educating me on this! Big thumbs up man!!
It ended up being just a sewer/water leak test.
Hello @Chris Mendez. I am glad the clarification helps. I understand some plumbers call it a hydrostatic but actually don't use a pump. Did yours pass?
This is a great video. I'm a real estate agent in Dallas and enjoyed watching your explanation. The first thing that some companies say is "We need to run a hydro-static test on this house". It's great to be informed.
@Hernan Romero I teach real estate agents about this all the time in Dallas. The whole Hydro-Static Test verbiage is crazy!
Hydrostatic pressure is the pressure exerted by fluid due to the gravity pressure, that why it is called a hydrostatic pressure.
Use of the pump of any sort in testing should be called simply pressure test or water pressure test.
If the system is already pressurized with mains feed it is dead easy to test it for leaks.
I'm a plumber from UK and we only do pressure test on new systems to check them for leaks.
Thanks Roger, your the man.
This provided incredibly helpful clarity about our home buying process with plumbers
Hey Roger, I have really been enjoying watching your videos. As a first time homebuyer today I saw the previous owner's bills for the water and found out the cost had been increasing since February. Foundation work had been done on it in February. Super disappointed that I didnt have the water sewer test like you mentioned and I fear I may have fell into a situation that requires putting thousands of dollars into repairing my first house. I live in San Antonio and Olshan did the work on the house by the previous owner, they lifted up about half of the foundation on it. I'm thinking they might not have done a water sewer test after the work to confirm no leaks. If there's one thing I would tell another first time homebuyer please, listen to The Expert Plumber. Now to call Olshan and a plumbing company first thing in the morning.
@S T please keep me informed and let me know what they all say.
Great video! As a DIYer, this helped me understand what the test was that a plumbing company did last week at my house.
Thanks
I figured the drain leak test was called a hydrostatic test as one of those fancy industry terms because hyrdo=water and static=let it sit for awhile. So, fill the pipe with water and let it sit for awhile or sound fancy and call it hydrostatic.
One thing I am wondering is does it require pulling the toilet off to do the drain leak test? Would it be possible to block the clean out off and fill the toilet until it is backed up into the bowl and mark the water level to see if it goes down? Granted, this would take more time to notice a very small leak with the greater surface area of water in the bowl as compared to the pipe, but would this be a sufficient test if given enough time, and if not why? If there is a leak then you could pull the toilet and redo the test to make sure it is not the wax ring leaking before going further.
Thank you for the great content!
I wish I would watch this wider before we bout a house NRH TX.
Great video Roger. We are purchasing a house in Fort Worth and our water test passed, but the sewage showed 10 inches of loss in 30 minutes. The sellers are trying to say a camera test showed no leaks, but I’m not buying it as a cctv wouldn’t show joint separation in PVC in my opinion. Do you have any recommendations? Thank you sir.
hey im just wondering, is there any way to improve the hydrostatic test? can you suggest one. thank you
Thank you for the video.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the information
Idk 😂how many plumbers say the only way to test is through the toilet. It’s a lot lol
Here in georgia we can only have the water pressure at 70 max for residual and 75 for commercial buildings
Very informative. Thank you
I have new construction. Vaccum lines are filled with water . The level in lowest pipe drops by 1 inch every 24 hours is that normal.
Outstanding and very informative
great video thanks
Hey Roger just curious as to what something like that would cost
It depends on the company you call, the severity of the leak(s), and where you're located. Every company prices this differently
@@RogerWakefield well how much would you charge? People want estimated answers NOT generalized comments we already knew
Hydrostatic test is used by foundation repair companies for sure. I'm having repairs done and that's what they say will be done ( hydrostatic test) when it's completed. This info will help me protect my home. Thank you for this video!
