    So many perfume commercials. And Mary Louise Weller, either right before or right after filming Animal House.

    I loved Babe cologne. It had a great warm woodsy cedar scent. I wish they still made it.

    Worth the watch for Vincent Price alone.

    @ 1:01 Wow, it's Margaux Hemingway! -- American 70s supermodel/actress. She was the granddaughter of writer Ernest Hemingway. Her later years were marred by highly publicized episodes of addiction and depression. She died by suicide by drug overdose in 1996 at the age of 42. She was one of the most famous faces of the 70s and early 80s!

      Discontinued in the 80s due to fear that the sweetener caused cancer. Relaunched in 2001

      3:38--I seem to remember Orbit gum being new around this time. It is still available in my area. I do recall that there were some fears in the 1980's about saccharin being a possible carcinogen, but those were later disproven.

    I remember going shopping with my mom around the time of these commercials, and she saw Jontue in a department store. She sprayed it in the air, sniffed it, and said to the sales clerk "I think I'll pass...give me a call when they come out with Jon Three." My mom was a hoot...

    Jontue by Revlon in a 2.3 oz bottle sales today on FragranceNet for $9.44.
    $9.44 in 1977 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $40.56 in 2020, a difference of $31.12 over 43 years.

    In that Allstate ad with Rick Hurst as the husband, the guy playing the insurance agent is Robert DoQui, who played a pimp in the blaxploitation flick Coffy.

    I love the pronunciation of Petula Clark's name at the end (9:20). It's like "Pestilence," only different. ;-)

      I noticed that too. I know she's from the UK, and I'm not sure how her first name is pronounced there, but here in America it's usually pronounced "Peh-TOO-lah."

    Nestle Souptime-competition for Lipton Cup-A-Soup
    Snowblind:The Cocaine Connection-sounds like the name of a DLC for Ghost Recon Wildlands
    The Love Boat-aww Julie was crushing on Potsie Webber

    OMG! When the video started snowing and jumping I actually reached toward the screen, looking for a dial to adjust the picture. LOL! I can't believe I did that . . . . I guess old habits come back to haunt you when you least expect it. Jeez Louise! 😳

      Those Souptime faces ARE creepy! Imagine them on the supermarket shelf.
      @ 4:08 My mother shopped at this store all the time! I wonder if Casual Corner was only in the DC area?
      @7:28 Big-time, french actress/model Catherine Deneuve...gorg.

      MsFarzee I watch as much as possible but I don’t often comment-I’m from the southern Illinois area & Casual Corner was around in the malls in my area-my mom & aunt shopped there. I was around 12 when these commercials were on & I remember some them ... Yes the Souptime faces are creepy!

      @@tadool5352 I haven't seen a Casual Corner store for some time (they went out of business in 2005, according to Wikipedia), but I'm pretty sure we had them in my home state of Iowa back in the day,

    Jontue - Someone has been reading too many Harlequins.
    Bell System - Don’t ever use that song for a commercial. That song was already made fun of by then.
    Allstate - Guy playing the husband looks familiar...
    “It Happened One Christmas” - BOOOO! As I recall, this was at a time when they weren’t showing “It’s A Wonderful Life” annually yet.

      "It's A Wonderful Life" had entered into the public domain in 1974, after Republic Pictures failed to renew their copyright. It began to be shown all over TV around this time, usually by local affiliates or public stations.

    • @chrislang9442
      @chrislang9442 5 лет назад +1

      But it didn’t get the national or cable networks’s attention for a while, so there wasn’t as much exposure.

    • @80sCommercialVault
      @80sCommercialVault  5 лет назад +2

      The exposure it got from airing on local television stations across the country is what made it become a classic Christmas movie. Before the 70's it was fairly obscure.
