[...] then.. when the patient woke up, his SKELETON was missing and the doctor was never heard from AGAIN! anyway, that's how I lost my medical license....
My suggedtion. I work in Healthcare. I swear that as I do so, I will not be swayed by woke politics nor "social" justice. I will not advise any practice, procedure, or treatment that I am not willing to give to my children, my parents, or myself. All life is sacred, and I will not advocate for or assist in either abortion nor suicide. Neither will I use my position or expertise to abuse, coerce, or swindle those under my care.
How about the need for the original hypocratic oath. I believe there’s a psychological component to reciting the original words that keep you on the moral guard rails that it was intended to do.
I don't feel the Hippocratic oath needs to be amended but rather to be enforced and apply universally to all healthcare professionals (including those in the non-clinical medical sciences), care-givers and, crucially, the administrators. The 6C's must be across the board.
because i am from Greece , we have a saying that some types of work as medical field are not just jobs are ``λειτουργηματα``, this refers to doctors , teachers and priests mostly... there is not a specific translation to english if you look in dictionary , its like something sacred , not just a job.. of course nowadays without money you have no treatment so its HYPOCRITICAL to have the Hippocratic oath... Hippocrates wanted to give something ``sacred`` in this ``job``, a way to have an oath that you will help without money and without judgement anyone..i am not saying that it shouldnt change at all, of course it can change because all world is changed, and specially since each country has different laws about medical treatments , to what is legal and what is not, what is an experiment and what is not , so i agree it should change even alittle bit, but even if people decide to change it i believe we should try to keep the ``sacred `` part of it... for example when i travel by summer for holidays to go to where i come from to an island i listen to the ship ``if anyone is doctor please say it on reception`` this has saved alot of lives because ships even big ones that can carry more than 1000-2000 people inside and do more than 8 hours on the sea are not required by law to have a full time doctor inside!! i remember once at about 2002 we had left only 2 hours and ship had to go back to athens to leave a patient (orelse it would have to travel more 6 hours to go to crete).... This is a simple example of the oath, even if there was a doctor inside the ship that day if he was bored to say it in reception then the person could have died or the very least maybe he could have given some help and not change the travel plan.... but doctors if they go to holidays want to stay undercoved in their bedroom in the ship and leave without getting bothered.... thats why we need doctors to feel they are responsible for everyone, like teachers, like priests... Ps.. when i say priests i am nor refering to any religion , can be anything..its just something like a teacher of our soul...
It is great that the changes suggested are additions. I agree that embracing Wellness and life long learning are paramount. Thank you for your innovation.
Which physician rejects new therapies? I thought you was going to say scrap the oath completely. Why do they need any oath when they have medical boards overseeing them?
I solemnly pledge to consecrate my life to the service of humanity; I will give to my teachers the respect and gratitude that is their due; I will practice my profession with conscience and dignity; The health of my patient will be my first consideration; I will respect the secrets that are confided in me, even after the patient has died; I will maintain by all the means in my power, the honor and the noble traditions of the medical profession; My colleagues will be my sisters and brothers; I will not permit considerations of age, disease or disability, creed, ethnic origin, gender, nationality, political affiliation, race, sexual orientation, social standing, or any other factor to intervene between my duty and my patient; I will maintain the utmost respect for human life; I will not use my medical knowledge to violate human rights and civil liberties, even under threat; I make these promises solemnly, freely, and upon my honor.
I think that the hyppocratic oath also needs to include a committment to addressing the socio/economic causes of disease. This has been sorely missing from the prior versions although the 1960 Louis Lasagna version did include the consequences of illness: "I will remember that I do not treat a fever chart, a cancerous growth, but a sick human being, whose illness may affect the person's family and economic stability. My responsibility includes these related problems, if I am to care adequately for the sick. I will prevent disease whenever I can, for prevention is preferable to cure. I will remember that I remain a member of society, with special obligations to all my fellow human beings, those sound of mind and body as well as the infirm." This focus on the socio/economic causes of disease have never been addressed with a Hyppocratic oath and maybe it's time they are.
The Medical Futurist I've read your report regarding the future of Pharma and found it to be very enlightening. As a pharmacist, I'm using it to get ahead of the crowd, also to help gauge and invest in startups in that space. Have you had any new insights since that report???
“Foolish the doctor who despises the knowledge acquired by the ancients.” Hippocrates, 460 B.C. - 370 B.C.
An ever changing oath to suit the circumstances of whatever is seen as "ethical" is no oath at all.

Even if it's outdated? Our new version keeps every value from the old one: www.jmir.org/2022/9/e39177

Why not both then?

Need to update "do no harm" huh?
Among others: www.jmir.org/2022/9/e39177
The oath has been broken multiple times in 2020 with the non treatment of patients with serious illnesses
Somehow I think this just means more needles and b00str "medicine"
Even though it does not.
This really does need to change, this was a great explanation
Use technology & natural herbal remedies to help the patients
Abortion is the key to the desire to change the path killing vs helping.
I wouldn't change the oath, perhaps write another formal description of modern intervention in another document for the current times.

If there was a brain cell in your brain you would know the Oath has all that in there
Nope, it doesn't: medicalfuturist.com/why-an-upgraded-hippocratic-oath-is-needed-in-the-digital-era/

You've nailed it!
