  • Ramon Casas (1866 - 1932) was a Catalan artist who was known as a portraitist as well as paintings of crowd scenes ranging from the audience at a bullfight to an execution of rioters.
Ramon Casas was born in 1866 in Barcelona to a wealthy family, and from an early age he was able to spend time in both Spain and Paris, traveling frequently and developing his artistic style.
This is also when he met Santiago Rusiñol, who would become a life-long friend and with whom he often collaborated.
His paintings from that time were influenced by the works of the Impressionists. As Ramón Casas’ fame and prosperity grew, his style solidified and he focused more on portraiture.
