several of my cousins in new york do braids and i've never heard them charging that much. even outside of my personal family experience, every braider i know of charges less than that for braids, wash, and dry. definitely not disagreeing, but i think a large part of that is who you're trusting with your hair and where they're located.

Being white and growing up in a mostly white area, it wasn't until high school that I really had black friends who wore their hair similar to yours, and when one of them mentioned her hair appointment was going to be 6.5 hours, I kinda just... blue screened internally?? Like I have almost 4 feet of hair, so I'm used to things taking ages to do (my mom and I would put my hair in microbraids after a shower for heatless waves sometimes, and that was a *task*) but the patience y'all have is unrivaled. Not to mention the skill the hairdressers have to have to make those braids look so nice and uniform!! I'm just in a bit of awe about it, always ❤
My old hair stylist charged $190 for braids, had to come with my hair already washed and blown out and no oil or anything on my scalp. Though if it wasn't blown out correctly, she would be irritated with me 😅 Like girl, I am not a hair stylist, idk how YOU want my hair to be when I'm at home trying to do it myself. That's why I want to pay you to do it for me!!
Friend richmond virginia is like 2.5-3 hours from Alexandria virginia. Youll find a coset equivalent stylist in richmond, chester or petersburg with less travel
Yikes CA shop initially charged me 260 then said my hair was way longer than she thought...so charged me 340! No wash, dry or trim. But, I did time it just to see how long it would take & she finished in 2 hrs for 120 braids total. (Her daughter was there to help)
So pretty 🤩 next time she dips or you re-dip, braid them super tight in smaller sections, and dry them 💯% before unraveling. Long braids need more in order to hold crimped curls. They fall quick. I’m Not a stylist, just a 20 year consumer ❤🥰
$160 damn my mom has been going hair since she was a girl and as long as you bring supplies she charges you 60 the most and it’s done beautifully. Since we moved all of her old customers have been traveling to see her to get their hair done.

For me normal medium size box braids were around £90 or less but it just depends 🤷🏾♀️
