excellent review - insightful - and thanks for all of the prospective you provided including the general idea that the associated cabling and equipment should be in the same league in order to fully realize everything that an amplifier like the Mephisto is capable of - thanks for posting it Jay

great work as always Jay. I'll never afford this stuff but its like watching a review on a Lamborghini - Its out of my budget but I can appreciate the design, performance and beauty of it all. You're selling a dream, and you sell it well. cheers!

I also love massive amplifiers. What brand and models of cables are you using for the mephisto and Pandora? And can I use my transparent opus power conditioner for the mephisto Solo? Please Jay if you can share the above asked questions informations with me , thanks.

As I’ve mentioned before, this amp is out of my budget for now, but I was thinking about the fact that I’d most likely not be actively seeking Gryphon Mephisto reviews. It really is also the content and your thoughts and experience with all of those other amps (also talking about your A’gon thread), advice, and knowing you’re more qualified than a good amount of “professional” reviewers is another reason I really dig your channel. I dig how you said maybe monoblocks “will” have more resolution. ; ) Thanks, Jay.

If you can't afford the Gryphon Mephisto, then look at it's baby brother- the Gryphon Diablo 300 this will give you scaled down similar sound.

I seem to always like the Gryphon amps over any other amp in comparisons. It's a great amp from what I hear and probably over time the cost might be more right given the high tier performance.

Jay, that you've owned so many brands and spent time with them, your review results are credible and substantive. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
I've been a stereophile subscriber (and various mags) for many years - the benefit of those writers were the breadth of their experience - making their opinion count (for me, anyway.)
The biggest advantage of your channel is i get to "hear" the review at the same time. You've hit on something here. Hope you can get more subs.
subjective ideas - 1. put your video camera on a tripod when not up close. 2. include your mic'ing technique in notes so we know how the sound was recorded.
I've only been subb'd for about 2 months, but enjoying all the vids. Best of luck on the channel!

Jay spot on, this amp is something else it will take so much more to beat it. It is really two mono blocks in one chassis, therefore needs two power cords. If you can afford them get the Mephisto solo- your next chapter...

Jay now that you have plunged into the abyss of HIFI, I really don’t think you have left yourself any recourse but to see how deep you are willing to go. The only thing better than the Mephisto stereo Amp, is to trade up to a pair of Mephisto mono’s. Or go insane and get a pair of d’agostino relentless amps.

Hi Jay.I like what you do awesone.how does the Boulder 2150's compare to Gryphon mephisto's and if you have had Vitus or Boulder 3050 amps before how do they compare.Which do you think has the most lifelike organic vocal sound as if the singer is standing right in front of you.
    Thanks

  • @WXSTANG
    @WXSTANG Год назад

Bro... I think that your reviews on high end equipment is incredible... don't change that. Very few people do, and it is cool to listen to your take.
HOWEVER... you are getting your first call out from me. As an Electrical Engineer it is impossible a 4 foot power cord run is making a sonic difference. Placebo effect. I dare you to blind A/B two stereo amplifiers with different power cords. Snake oil.

Looks like you have ATI power amp with Ncore modules. Would it be possible to compare them to Parasound JC1+? Also Parasound with Gryphon would be very interesting comparison as well. I am familiar with parasound sound so it will be a good reference for myself and I am sure many other subscribers/watchers.
By the way you have very interesting channel. Instead of listening to the music I have been listening to you talking about different gear. Great presentation. No show off, no bullshit, straight to the point. Love it!

You wrote and evaluated the amplifier in many technical aspects, but you didn't say a word about musicality and listening pleasure.
From your assessment, I understand that the amplifier is a bit like a sports car designed for the track.
It's super fast, but you won't enjoy long daily driving with it
Can you define it like that?

Jay, in the past you mentioned you have a 20 amp AC circuit. Do you think at this level of performance, that the Gryphon Mephisto and the Focal Stella UTOPOA EVOs would benefit at all with a cleaner AC power supply such as using a high end regenerator or power conditioner such as a PS Audio P20 Power Plant or an Audioquest Niagara 7000? Or is the electrical circuits engineered in the Mephisto make this possible discussion a moot point? As always, I look forward to your thoughts and next upgrade in your system.

Naim Statement costs £178,997.00 doesn't even come close, then you'll be comparing to 4 Mephisto solo (Pair £96,000) at £192,000. Naim Statement is over engineered, over priced for what it is.

Jay, thanks for your input on no doubt a great amplifier. All your efforts and time dedicated to this hobby are appreciated. I do not usually write to any of these blogs/sites at all. Unfortunately, I felt compelled to write due to your tone of sounding very elitist and pompous. Please tone it down and consider your self fortunate to indulge in some truly great and enjoyable gear. At the end of the day, its all subjective..."One man's meat is another man's poison". Be well.
