  • In this week’s episode, Rabbis and Disciples Pt 4: Walking On Water, Brad Gray will reveal what we often miss in the story of Jesus walking on water. Think about it. The details make very little sense. Jesus feeds 5,000 people. Then he puts the disciples in a boat and sends them onto the Sea of Galilee, intending to catch up with them later. Then a storm hits. Jesus could probably see the disciples struggling against the wind from his place on a mountain. Then, somewhere between three and six in the morning, Jesus decides to walk out to them on the water. As if all of that weren’t strange enough, Mark’s Gospel records that when Jesus walked near them, He “intended to pass them by.” What? That’s a bizarre story. Unless, of course, Jesus is up to something else.
In light of this, what is Jesus up to? It’s critical to understand the Jewish people were terrified of water. The waters were the place of chaos and evil, which is why the disciples think Jesus is a ghost. Jesus is meeting Peter in the place of his deepest fear. Like any good disciple, Peter wants to be exactly like his rabbi. So, he risks his life and faces his fears to get out of the boat and come to Jesus. And that’s when Peter’s doubt kicks in. But who is Peter doubting? It can’t be Jesus. Because he’s doing just fine.
It turns out, Peter’s doubting himself. The power of this story is that Jesus believes in Peter more than Peter believes in himself. And Jesus believes in you more than you believe in yourself. In Rabbis and Disciples Pt 4: Walking on Water, we’ll see that this story is actually about us growing in our confidence that God is with us, that God believes in us, and that He’s faithful to equip us for the tasks He calls us to.

    Oh man,
This person really know what he's talking about,
He needs more people to watch because i think it's unfair that he has only 2 thousand subscribers,
    He needs 2 million.

There's a difference between believing in yourself and believing that God believes in you. The focus still needs to be on God. For me, I really have wanted to go to Israel but have doubted it could happen due to finances and other factors, like could I do a trip such as this, as I want to do one of the more strenuous tours etc and I'm 60...in good physical condition but still....doubting. But recently I sense God pressing on my heart to, yes, go and that He will give me the strength and to not be afraid. I believe He has much for me in going to Israel. So of course, doing more physical training but the difference is that I'm sensing this is really going to grow and stretch my faith. I've grumbled about living in a place that is uneven, hilly, rocky, mountainous...but now seeing it as my training ground for Israel!
