I LOVE the "Oh shit"! What a handsome and cheeky Darcy. Can't say I blame him for having a "my little Pony moment with his hair flying in a green pasture" then realized urgh this is too hot, I'll agree to go home now.
😆Hilarious! Lovely Darcy keeps Dad on his toes!! Would have to be on the hottest day of the year - least the farmer didn't show up to compound the humiliation! Good to see even understanding Experts have their frustrating days! Nice demo of how to eventually catch up a pony! Keep safe - always carry an extra lead rope!!
I used to hack out a hunter in Cornwall .I used to try and creep past the field where Busby the Shetland grazed. But nine times out of ten I was unsuccessful .He would climb under the electric fence on his belly.Climb the bank in the field and follow behind me throughout the entire hack .When I went in fields to gallop Dan over quite large banks along came Busby.Dan was 18.2 and could go a lot faster so he used to wait without me telling him to for Busby to catch up .And on the beach I would take Dan swimming and Busby would follow battling the waves. We used to tease him sometimes and hide from him in the caves .According to a friend Busby still lives at the age of thirty six not quite so adventurous. Sadly Dan is no longer
We had an 11.2 pony that kept escaping our fields, she’d go to pick up her Shetland pony friend in the village and they’d then go for a nice little hack up onto the common where they’d be spotted! I was working as a teacher in the village school at that time- and the HT would come to my classroom with ‘that look’ on her face….she’d take over my class whilst I hit the feed bucket and halters and put my boots on to tramp over the common. Both ponies would then be tied up in the playground until lunchtime/home time. The school kids loved it!!
Pony's always have that 'small size' and 'cuteness' on their side. What they can do, and we laugh as being a bit cheeky, a horse would never get away with ! Ponies 'rule' ! :)
You have to admire these adorable ponies for their independent nature, just when you think that you have their full attention they will surprise you and I wouldn't have it any other way♡
Super video as I’ve just recommended your expertise to someone and in this video you show just how human you are Steve. You’re the best bless you. ❤️❤️
hey Mr Steve! Dary is being a bum snot for sure, example of The Good, The Bad, and The Cheeky!!! This is what I like about watching your videos, you show us the true nature of having, training, caring, not just physically but spirit! Horses have such a variety of moments, and this is why those of us who have sincere interest and fondness for them never can stop watching them be who they are! Too bad humans can not do the same! As a 70 year old who never got to own, ride, train, care for a horse am dedicated to your videos! Thank you so much! You are billiant! Pet Darcy for me! He may have had his ballingbrooks removed but he still retains is basic masculine character!! Just like a man, sees a good thing and can not resist!!!
These guys are super clever. And Every single time we interact with them,,,they are Learning! Whether humans deem it a Good lesson or a bad one... The Horse/Pony would be learning more and more,Lol 🤣 The Real Problem is when humans want One behaviour,,, but for whatever reason the Pony doesn't think that it's a good idea... It's Labelled as "Stubborn" or "Lazy" and oftentimes Worse... So I am glad that you understand the Horses Welfare comes from Clear Communication!! Thanks Steve and Team 💖
Thanks for showing Mr. Darcy's fun day of catch me if you can until he got tired of running around and let you "catch" him. I love that you and Charlotte have sun a good sense of humor that you shared this video. The little imp! Many laughs.
The farmer probably would be worried that if you had an accident in his field that he would be liable ( ridiculously my x was mean like that ) ! Marvellous how a good work out makes them compliant🤠I spent the whole time watching …anxiously expecting Mr MacGregor to come🙈
GREAT VIDEO!!! I wondered, if like a bad child if you went out of sight, would Mr. Darcy have followed? LOVE Charlotte's "oh shit"! Y'all are adorable!!!
had a cheeky welsh as a kid. ended up a field ornament after she even got my stepmum off (trying to be the big i am). have bad memories of her bolting with me through corners. was freshly diagnosed adhd at the time and parents taught me like a normal person and it backfired.
🤣So funny! He was quite persistent ,till he realised he wasn't going to get to eat grass! You are lucky to have traffic free places to ride. We can't go out as live next to main road!
>>>>>> Steve i'm well past it all now but yrs ago I bought a q/horse mare that you could'nt catch in a paddock so I filled my treat bag around my waist with bits of carrots , whistled her when she got close enough I threw a bit of carrot - but then much to her surprise I shooed her away and wouldnt let her near me , until I whistled again , same thing treat & shoo away , but each time I would up the stakes lead rope around the neck , etc once treat was given shooed away again , until I could whistle , have her run up to me ( because all I was going to do was treat & release ) it took approx 2 hours = she was fixed after that in her memory good things happen when their human whistled LOL I could even saddle her up , treat her unsaddle and shoo away . Try it I'm not saying it works for all but back in the day I had great fun training my horses and the things you could teach them to do was really great . Have a nice day regards Sydney Australia.
That was funny to watch, you train others to catch horses then your lil pony decides to test you. Then when he thought he was too hot let you near him so funny how their mind works x
It happens to the best of us.😂 I’ve always said that horses are like motorcycles with brains that make them run to the barn, try to scrape you off under a tree, or just run off to wherever.
From loong experience, I can tell you that Welsh Mountains have to agree to being caught. They know exactly what they are doing and they can't even be bribed until they decide to stop the game. Fabulous ponies.
😂 I know that had to be frustrating … You did great though .. Have your ears been Ringing ? My Mentor is there In England and I was telling him about you and how good you are … Now don’t go and get BIG Head …😂 🤣 I love watching your videos …
I enjoy your videos very much. Thank you. When I was 8 years old we got a wild pony from Dartmoor. Nelly looked almost as Darcy and I smile, because I remember that sweet funny game he is playing. But within days or weeks my father had trained Nelly and us 4 children 3 to 9 years old how to ride. Nelly was always taking care of us, when we were riding. She was the only pony among big horses when we were hunting, and if
She could not jump all the barriers, but together we found another way. My father became a colonel in the danish army. Hes way of training horses was much like yours . ALWAYS LEADING. HEHE. ALWAYS.
I too own one of these little sh*ts, yes they are cute, intelligent, loving but also cunning and they plan their escapes and choose when they will submit to your instructions.
Ooh what a marvellous idea, bringing Darcy out for walkies with the big boys! keep him fit. And no leadrope required. Isn't he just the well trained poppet! Great idea for keeping him trim with no extra effort hey? Or is it? So funny to see ponies will still be ponies even if they belong to a world famous RUclips horse trainer. Jolly start to my morning.
Must have been a nightmare with the heat you guys are experiencing right now over there. I hope they all drank well when they got home and you hosed them off. We're experiencing the same type of heat here actually. And the city I live in is surrounded by 2 rivers and a canal that runs from one river to the other right through the city centre. The last 4 days, with the humidity level included in the temperature it feels like 43°C, or 109.4°F. Stay Safe and HYDRATED EVERYONE affected by the extreme heat. If you own horses, please try and exercise them as soon as the sky lightens in the morning. That is when it's the most coolest. That's what I've been doing with one stallion I have in for rehabilitation work, getting him back into light work now. He's going out in a D Ring Rubber bit. Just hacking out for half an hour in the morning, putting ice wraps on his legs while I work the other horse, a gelding Standardbred Pacer/Trotter, and who has an extreme fear of being checked back, so I have him in a D Ring Rubber Bit, and the lightest contact possible, he's working totalling off of seat and leg, hardly any hand at all. If I use my hands, my legs go forward and I tut, apply about 1/2 pounds of pressure to the reins and he's in perfect frame, backing up in totally correct motion. I've had someone, the owner of him, video it, so I could see. Then the owner rides him, and he goes the same for her as he does for me. But the poor guy, Jackson is his name, has so many whip marks on his haunches and sides from when he would break in a race. He would break to a TROT, not a CANTER, and was registered as a PACER. But we looked into his pedigree. Going back 5 generations it was all Trotters, until one of each of the grand parent mares was bred to a Pacer, then the filly foal was bred back to a Pacer. He has more of a Trotter Ancestry than a Pacer Ancestry. And no one took advantage of that. It's a shame really. It has taken us 3 years to get him to this point. Where we can take him out on a hack, and actually ask him to TROT ON, and he's WILLING TO MOVE OUT without fear. Symptoms of a cause. Dogs and Horses will never LEARN anything from FEAR OR PAIN. To me that just makes them a danger, and an accident just waiting to happen. And in the case of a dog, it may very well mean its life if its a powerful breed like a Rottweiler.
