  • Creating a simple lace with a beautiful texture. You'll be amazed :)
Just to mention, you should be able to do this on any machine, you just need to read the instructions to figure out how to put needles on hold.

    Thanks for your tutorial!
It's even more beautiful if you switch position of the needles coming out. First you begin with N2, next set you start with N3, N4, N3, than start with N2 again. That's really amazing.

thank you for your tutorial. I started watching because I liked the stitch pattern, but I learned a couple other useful techniques during your bind-off, which will help me with a project I am current working on. Thank you.

For those who want to try this, to help make sure the other needles knit correctly make sure you have enough weights and add edge weights (and keep moving the edge weights up). It will help keep the downward pressure to keep the other needles knitting properly when doing tuck stitch.

How many needles must you need ( even or odd) to make sure that the pattern will work on your garment? Liked you presentation. Also, do you have an easy ear flap pattern? Thank you for any input. Judy

I think if you would put a claw wt. on each end of your garment you may not drop the end sts. and just keep moving the claw wts. up as you work so many rows.

Lovely pattern. Question: Why do you not add more weights at the edges as you knit? Will it distort the stitches?

How come you didn't just use the Tuck setting on your change dial. by putting certain needles in hold position for so many rows and then knitting, all of them releasing the ones in hold to knit two rows of all needles and repeating the process, you are essentially making a tuck stitch pattern.
Of course if you don't have a punch card or electronic patterning ability, that explains it. Still, the tuck setting works really well for this type of lace.
REally beautiful pattern by the way. Pretty!

Hey guys! can anyone teach me about machine knitting. i want to make all sorts of garments, from lacy scarves to jerseys...what kind of machine do i get and who can teach me? thanks

    • @HJKelley47

Lauren If you are serious about learning machine knitting, I would recommend starting with a bulky knitting machine, i.e. Brother KH260 (punchcard), or the 230. You can also look at the Singer 155 bulky. If you are serious about lace items, then you will want a standard knitting machine, for then you can work with a lace carriage. Truly have an idea what your focus will be in knitting, for it will determine where you need to invest your money. Begin checking Ebay. Must be careful in purchasing a used knitting machine. Ask questions from those who do machine knitting. Three basic machines: Standard (4.5), Bulky (8-9) & Midguage (6.5-7).
Learning - if you are in the UK, go to Metropolitan Machine Knitting. I would aso highly recommend you watching Diana Sullivan on YT. She has a series of videos for new beginners which will prove extremely helpful in your learning curve. Know that you will not start off like Dwaine Wilson (he is truly fabulous). If you get an opportunity, attend a machine knitting conference. You will get to see the ladies & some men working diligently on their machines and having fun. Would also recommend that you join Knitting Paradise (knittingparadise.com). It is a group of people from "both sides on the pond", and they will be glad to answer your questions, and you will have an opportunity to look at some beautiful & talented work.
