I did 2 tours, My first in Iraq, and the other in Afghanistan. Before, my father who was a Vietnam Vet never really talked about what he went through over there, that is until I came home from my first tour. It's funny how war can bring a father and son closer together. He was a classic rock kinda guy but I got him into A7X. He loved this song especially. He passed away, and now I'm having a beer, blasting this, and remembering him. Semper Fi

If your a true Avenged or Metallica fan you'll know that Metallica was a big inspiration on Avenged, and you'll also know that they are all really good friends. They do alot of touring together. When Metallica did a tour in 2018 with Avenged and Volbeat they specifically asked Avenged to do the tour with them.

Coming from someone who has played the intro riff, and the main riff heard throughout Sad But True, this doesn't even sound like Sad But True to me, honestly. Avenged Sevenfold opened for Metallica in the Orgullo, Pasión y Gloria Mexico concert in 2008 but it was actually their worst concert people started yelling to them emos 🙄
Look at this. Just look at it. This is why Avenged Sevenfold & heavy metal fans are the best fans in the world! You'll never see pop stars or rappers playing to crowds this large with so many ferociously passionate fans. This type of dynamic between a band and it's fans is unique to rock/metal, and it goes beyond the typical relationship modern performers have with their listeners. Ours is a cathartic, borderline religious endeavor we get to experience with our genre. It's as if this is our Mecca, and we must all make a pilgrimage to it at least once in our lifetimes in order to consummate our devotion to the artform.
The masses go to Kanye West or Katy Perry concerts to simply be entertained for the evening. Not metal fans. Not A7X fans. No, we go to an Avenged show to bare our souls and bask in the sonic euphoria that can only come when a rock band & it's fans give it everything they've got by pouring every fiber of their being out onto the stages, floors, and balconies of arenas every night all around the world.
There's simply nothing else like hard rock & metal in music. Rock/Metal music will always have an inherent intangible quality to give it an edge over all the other music genres. That intangible quality being bands who create all of their own music themselves, and imbue their music with high levels of emotion and soulfulness at every step along the way. These guys have to translate through their instruments the stream of consciousness sounds only they can hear in their heads when creating new music. No hired studio musicians to play it for them first. No lyrics being purchased from songwriters. No high tech studio wizardry like sampling, computers, or sound effects being mixed together to manufacture the next killer bass line that the industry can market to adverisers and cash in on.
No, rock & metal music is the best music because it's the only genre where a bunch of otherwise ordinary people, when taken as singular individuals, can come together to create something remarkably extraordinary as a combined group. Even better is the fact that this is only achieved through relentless practice, patience, hard work, and sheer determination.
Pop and rap can win the popularity contest for all we care. Because us rock & metal fans will always have the edge over those audiences because only we get to experience the unique emotional and spiritual fulfillment that only rock & metal music offers to it's audiences.

Guys there are tons of bands inspired by metallica. When I heard this I didn't think sad but true, I just thought the black album because of overall feel. I like avenged sevenfold. Followed them for many years. I really like the music, my only gripe is I would've liked to have heard more out of the drums. I know why they took this approach but I believe better drums would've put these songs way up.

Chris Figueroa Yeah so first off I'm not trying to be a dick but I agree here. The Rev was one of the most talented drummers I've seen. I'm a drummer myself. As far as getting used to the new guy, as a professional band that should've been done well before the studio. As far as the simplistic drum lines which do you think the Rev would've preferred, someone trying to follow in his footsteps, or someone playing half assed drum lines and hurting the quality of the music of a band that he dedicated his life to?

You should read their interviews. They had Arin tone down his drumming style. I am sure their next album will be a bit more complicated and harder on the drums.

Fui fazer a comparação entre "Sad But True" do Metallica e "This Means War" do Avenged Sevenfold. E cara... não é tão semelhante como dizem.
A introdução antes da pausa, em ambas as músicas, não soa nada parecido, é completamente diferente e acredito que se você escutar só essa parte da música do Metallica e logo em seguida a do Avenged Sevenfold com toda certeza notará a diferença.
A segunda parte, após a "pequena pausa", é a única parte realmente semelhante entre as músicas. Acho que isso se deve a "virada da guitarra" e a ligeira semelhança no ritmo que as baterias imprimem em ambas as músicas, mesmo assim você notará que a canção "This Means War" tem mais melodia e notas, enquanto "Sad But True" prima pelo som mais pesado, mais "sujo", característico da banda Metallica.
Agora, a parte cantada não tem nem o que comentar, a única coisa que se "parece" é a forma como eles dão força na primeira palavra de suas respectivas canções, no caso "Hey" na canção do metallica e o "Hide" na canção do Avenged Sevenfold, de resto, nada haver.
Depois de ouvir as canções parte a parte e depois por inteira, chego a conclusão que o "esqueleto" da canção é parecido, por exemplo, a pausa feita em ambas as canções, o ritmo que é imprimido pela bateria que é ligeiramente parecido, as "viradas" da guitarra. O tempo dado em cada frase também são parecidos. O que dá a impressão que toda canção do Avenged Sevenfold é um plagio da canção do Metallica, mas de fato elas são diferentes, o som é mais pesado no Metallica e no Avenged é mais melódico. A forma em que elas são cantadas também são bem diferentes.
Pode ser q avenged tenha se inspirado no Metallica? Pode. Como muitos sabem, avenged tem Metallica como inspiração, assim como o Guns N' Roses também é.
Acho que devemos ficar feliz em ver uma banda da "nova geração" mantendo a raiz do bom e velho Rock N' Roll. Mas, é obvio que ela deve buscar sua identidade, seu próprio ritmo, assim como Avenged tem feito bem. Que o Rock dure para sempre!

Vycrance most of the songs from this album are supposed to resemble the metal bands that influenced them to make music in the first place. its a tribute. theyve said this plenty of times in interviews. and although i like their old stuff better because i like their sound, i also like this because i like metallica and pantera. spread the love through music not the hate no matter your opinion

I love this version. I like the sound of the military boots, the molotov cocktail and the sharp angles of the sound, especially in the beginning.

Hail To The King, the entire album is avenged sevenfold paying tribute to its inspirations, (Metallica, Slayer, etc) so that's why they all sound similar to other bands in this album.
