Such a pleasure to watch Professor Bayley along with Iris Murdoch, young A.S Byatt, young Hollinghurst, young Gurnah and other intellectuals.
Although Britain's market wasn't satisfied with the sales of the 1994 shortlist, but had anybody expected that one of the shortlisted authors would win the 2021 Nobel Prize 😃
Apart from that, I feel the critics also failed to visualise the profound literary depiction HOW LATE IT WAS HOW LATE portrayed. It is one of the top nine Scottish books recommended by 2020 Booker Winning novelist Douglas Stuart.

An often overlooked fact is how many Scottish critics hated it and thought it was perpetuating bad stereotypes.

Worthy of the Nobel prize. A brave, truly anarchist (socialist) writer.
