Dan Swano is one of the biggest metal heroes! Extraordinary musician, singer, and producer. He produced the first two Opeth albums and of course, was in Bloodbath for a long time. Swano is a king of death metal and progressive metal.

Two biggest names in metal in Sweden: Dan Swanö & Peter Tägtgren, the effect these dudes have put in the metal world is huge.

@tubelious I can also confirmed via my interactions with him he is a true gentleman and friend. Goes out of his way way to help musicians and little things as I am a huge fan to impact my life in small ways. He for me out of nowhere emailed me to wish my wife and I a happy 10th anniversary. I was gobsmacked. Thabk you Dan your a hero of mine.

Seeing as you mentioned Dissection, i have to point out the fact that Dan was the producer of both The Somberlain and Storm Of The Light's Bane, as well as many other landmark releases of bands such as Opeth, Therion and Katatonia. Not to mention him Being an extraordinary composer and songwriter that influenced the fields of Death, Black, Progressive, Gothic and Avant-Garde Metal. If the industry was more fair he'd be drowning in Grammys. Oh well...

well if you want to hear the best of Edge of Sanity I highly recommend their album Crimson, it will take you on a epic tale followed with great music, that album is actually just one big song. And also it has guest vocals from Mikael from Opeth.

And Crimson II is a pretty solid sequel.
And I think by that time Edge Of Sanity was just a one-man band. Just Swano.

Edge of Sanity was the sound of my paper route back in my teens. The main tape in my walkman had Purgatory afterglow on one side and Hypocrisy's Osculum Obscenum on the other.
I think EoS is rather underrated in the swedish death metal scene. Dan Swanö is probably more influential as a producer than he is as a musician. In fact he produced and mixed the first 2 Dissection records.

Dan Swano ruled the 90s for me. Everything he touched I had to listen to...and that was A LOT (singer, songwriter, musician, producer). My man is prolific. IMO, the center of the 90s Swedish death metal wave.

Nice reaction:) I love Edge of Sanity and this song. But my favourite album is probably The Spectral Sorrows. Edge... comes from the small town of Finnspång. They almost created an own deathmetal scene there, because they didn`t belong to any of of the big scenes here in Sweden. (The Stockholm scene and the Gothenburg scene.) They created their own kind of deathmetal with more progressive sounds. As many here already told you the Mastermind behind all this is Dan Swanö. A fantastic musician and producer. One of my favourite sideprojects from him is Pan Thy Monium. Weird but great stuff. Check them out:)

Actually, here in Umeå where I come from they influenced the local death metal scene back in the early 90s more than the Sthlm or Gbg scene I'd argue. Subjective of course, but at least my own band took much more influence from EoS, Carcass and early PL than anything else. We even covered Darkday from Spectral Sorrows a few times live.

has been my favorite band for 20 years, that's when i first got access to internet and i don't know how i ended up downloading(pirating) face to face from the crimson 2 album.
i just wanted to hear more after i heard that particular song, i can't say it's my favorite song(it's probably eternal eclipse) but it's still a very special one to me.

EDGE OF SANITY was a *MAJOR* discovery for me as a kid in the 90s, back when music fans could only stare in awe at album advertisements in Metal magazines and hope to somehow get their hands on them one day. That experience can't be reproduced today, but it's always great to see kids hearing the Ancient Classics. 💀

Edge of Sanity is awesome!!! I love this old-school deeply dark and heavy Swedish black/thrash. If you like this song, you should listen to early Therion and Tiamat, especially Sumerian Cry! Also of course early Cradle of Filth! This is dirty, evil, nasty stuff... and I love it!

Dan Swanö is a true music lover, not only because of his immense discography in which he has done everything from playing an instrument, producing or singing (I love Dan's voice in all his versions)... he has produced more than 100 albums, among which bands such as Opeth, Dissection, Infestdead, Katatonia, Incantation, Cut Up, Bloodbath, Nightingale (a semi-progressive Heavy/Doom band accompanied by his brother and friends), Witherscape, Star One (Avantasia-style project) stand out. but in the Space 😂) and an almost infinite etc etc etc... until Milencolin (yes the 90's Punk band)...

Yeh, Dan Swano's my musical hero in my teens. His involvement in shaping the Swedish DM scene in the early 90s is unprecedented. He produced some of the most influential metal records (Unisound studios) like Marduk, Katatonia (even played drums on their early albums), Opeth, Dissection, Bloodbath etc etc. Crimson's definitely their best (IMHO) record.

  • @EddieTHead2266
    @EddieTHead2266 9 месяцев назад

He is very good friends with Michael from Opeth. Came up in the swedish scene together. They formed Bloodbath togethwr along with Jonas and Blackheim from Katatonia. DAN sings on the Diabolical Masquerade albums. Blackheims solo records. All excellent.
On Crimson Michael from Opeth gives backing vocals and om the near mid song break gives a near minute long high fry vox scream that is GOAT in metal. A shining shinging moment in metal. Once you hear it and realize what he is doing and the difficulty breath wise (im a death vox myself) it is awe inspiring.

I think so. Pure technical death metal with some infusion from the likes of Atheist and Nocturnus are one thing, but Dan definitely helped pioneer, with Cynic and Death helping from 1993 onward.

I really prefer the later edge of sanity. Its more refined and groovy. If you like concept albums, this band did a two part fantasy concept. Crimson 1 and 2. And its really good. A lot more hook riffs. Actually this band got better quickly. Really good stuff. Purgatory after glow! The 90s death metal.
