Immediate watch. Matteo is legit intimidating. Aside from the fact that he’s hilarious, he speaks 4 languages, cooks the best pasta, is a trained singer, does like 50 spot-on impressions, sees words in colour, has a hot husband, like 8 percent body fat, and his very own haunted Victorian doll. 15/10.
All that and when he speaks he sounds sincere and connects well with his audience. Even when he is doing rehearsed bits his delivery comes across as genuine.
@earlygray4456 For real. And you can tell he’s truly kind and an amazing friend. And he would never refer to himself as an assassin, murderer, hungry wolf, etc.
I'm a 40 year old, straight, married, latino dad living in small town Texas, the heartland of Trump's America lol, and I still find Matteo incredibly relatable because he's authentic. I don't need to be like him to relate to him because he's himself at full sincerity, easily a top working comedian right now.
Matteo is the most multi-talented person in stand up right now. Singing, painting, cooking, impressions, amazing bits, great stage presence. It’s so great to see him actually reach a level where he can be appreciated by more people
This is the first time I've heard someone talk about that tension between being "nice" but also needing space to be alone and fill your creative tank. The amount of times I've been told I'm selfish for not doing more "nice" things when I know those nice things are going to exhaust me. But it's so hard when people's view of you change, because you need that time alone.
I do not always watch Blocks. Occasionally. But as SOON as I saw Matteo was gonna be on, I practically broke my ankle running to watch this episode. “Hairplugs” special had me falling off my chair. He’s SO talented. Absolutely brilliant.
I'm a 62 year old gay man, and Matteo Lane is a miracle to me. First of all, I adore him as a person and a comic. But, when I first saw and heard him being 100% out to a mixed audience, I was elated that we have come this far. And like Matteo pointed out, it's gotten even better...but I deeply fear that forces are pushing us to go back...and artists like Matteo are going to be so crucial that as we fight misogyny, homophobia, racism and fascism, that we are able to keep our fricken sense of humor! Comedy won't just be a way to lighten up, it will be a crucial tool for resistance.
Neal is so talented at putting people at ease and getting them to open up. Matteo puts off such a bright, fun energy and I love getting to learn more about him.
Matteo is such a lovable character and accessible for everyone…. He’s hilarious and bright and big hearted…. Just love him…. Couldn’t wait to listen to this….
Thanks to Mateo for sharing that quotable quote from Barb about not being nice & being a good person. Exactly! It is exhausting “being nice,” and that resentfulness/emptiness after being nice & not being reciprocated-very relatable!
I love Matteo! From his standup to his videos with Nick and the MTV re-watch he's been doing - everything he does is great! Idea for future ep: JOSH JOHNSON
More women would be good, too. Neal has a variety of people on who are talented, but I find most white dudes with podcasts just help other white dudes. It's getting old. That's what it's like at open mic as well. Women always get less time, even if they were there a few times and less time is MORE challenging. Meanwhile, some guy yells unfunny things and he get 7 minutes of yelling unfunny things. If you even jokingly complain, they never let you back. That may be why most women in comedy are SO funny compared to maybe only 25% of male comedians known who are actually funny.
My heart cracked when ML spoke of feeling left out of certain things, and I remembered how it felt to be young and gay, but having no clue that’s what was “wrong” with me, what made me different. I’m 54, and there was almost no representation when I was a kid, so I couldn’t see myself in tv or movie characters or real people even. Friends have told me that I’m an excellent observer of human behavior, that I detect and retain incredibly finite details of interactions. But, what I now know is that I developed those “skills” during all the times I was not able to “join in any reindeer games.” I love that Matteo is truly a *smart* comedian and shares his insights so openly; it may be too late for me, but there are kids today who will be better people tomorrow because of the example set by Matteo Lane!
Matteo is already a young legend. He’s awesome. - I would love to see Neal interview Lil’ Duval, especially considering that he doesn’t believe in therapy… That would be an interesting episode. 👀🍿
I adore Matteo so much--his comedy, his art, his singing, his vibe. I check out any podcast on which he appears because I know I'm going to walk away with something that I either identify with or makes me think or feel. This one got me in my feels. I've never really thought of myself as a sensitive person--even though I am--and just hearing about how Matteo has processed but is still growing through his own sensitivity caught me off guard and the tears started to flow. Hearing him talk about being so present and the need to be present while painting was the moment I realized that singing for me is where I feel most present. Thank you for that gift of bringing myself back to me, @MatteoLane. ❤❤❤❤❤*off to find a vocal coach and some opportunities to sing*
Minute 56-59 sums up my entire life!… he spoke the words my heart has been looking for to articulate my pain my entire life…..hearing him express himself hurts but also put a lot into focus…Gracias, Matteo!!…
Hat's off toe Neal and Matteo. Neal does great interviews always. But there seemed to be a real and honest truth and opening up from both men. The wavelength was connecting and that is always a pleasure to witness.
A great conversation all around. Neal Brennan asks the right questions and Matteo has also had a lot of real genuine humorous life connection experiences with which to fuel his responses.
It is great to see Matteo popping up everywhere. He's amazing on so many levels. If any of you haven't watched his 15 minute pod with his friend Nick "I Never Liked You" go binge it right now. I save up episodes to keep me going!!
I had to break this into two sessions because it is so densely packed with info. Good on you Matteo, I remember seeing you first on Mark & Sam's pod and you've been blowing up ever since (maybe you were before, sorry if I'm accidissing).
The whole “Being Gay in Relationships” is insane. What are these questions he’s asking??? Does he think gay dudes think this much about the stereotypes he has of gay men??
Saw Matteo for the second time live and I'm so happy about all his success. It's so nice to be in an environment that feels so at time with jokes that feel made for me. Those jokes are the ones about playing old school Pokemon games on roms but also some of the gay ones 🤣
I can’t believe how much I loved this episode on so many levels. Neal I love ya but you’re able to ask and talk about sex and gender in an authentic way. And Matteo is for me next level love! THANK YOU!
As someone with ADHD I completely understand Matteo. I've always loved his comedy! My husband has ADHD too, and we totally understand that alone time is just as important as togetherness. We have to mask, Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria is tough, and then having to dim our lights is so tough. But I was lucky enough to grow up without any religion. I celebrate my birthday by doing a different experience every year.
I absolutely ADORE THIS! I was born in Eastern Europe (during communism lol), where we didn't get much standup, let alone international comics. When I moved to Montréal, the first thing I did was try and go to the live shows of my favourite comics. I've managed to see both Neal and Matteo in the past 3ish years and I can't be more geeked over this crossover!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow! New found respect for Neal! I’m a queer guy who came about in the 90s and can totally relate to a lot of what Matteo was saying. Nice to see some representation! The Italian in me may impulsively buy his cookbook too…
Eh, this devolved into the kind of modern "trauma worship" I don't really care for or find productive. After years of therapy to get over my own abusive upbringing, one of the few helpful things I've learned that seems pretty universal is the idea of forgiveness as an antidote to the long term effects of trauma and abuse. It feels good to have momentary vindication for the bad things that affect us in life, but a failure to truly forgive our abusers as well as ourselves for being abused will only lead to an endless cycle of vindication-seeking without true healing or growth; you will keep living in your trauma's shadow forever. If you want to be a happier person in the long term, you must let go and truly attempt to be present for as Ken Burns said last episode, "the present is perfect".
I remember seeing this dude at the comedy cellar like seven years ago and thinking he was going to make it big, he was hilarious and original. Glad he's getting his due!
50:11 Neal’s justification for any toxic trait he doesn’t want to face. Chappelle Show was good but it’s not better than your partner’s feelings matter.
He is asking questions like he has never even heard of the whole concept before. "Who is the man and who is the woman?" There is no woman. That`s the whole point. I know what he means, but damn, it`s been a long time since I have heard anybody talk who is unable to think outside of gender stereotypes to THAT degree. Well, to be more accurate I don`t really know what he actually means by taking the male or the female role. I got the impression he isn`t so sure himself what he means by that. I think it was just really important to him to make clear that he has the male role, whatever that means.
The next generation of comics are starting to plant their feet. Mateo is an absolutely phenomenal comic. The current NY regulars are spectacular. I'm glad to see the old heads fall and fall hard....
Immediate watch. Matteo is legit intimidating. @earlygray4456 For real. And you can tell he’s truly kind and an amazing friend. And he would never refer to himself as an assassin, murderer, hungry wolf, etc.
And he can paint and draw, and fuck me up in CoD or Fortnight. When I see folks like Matteo I know i have squandered my life.
You forgot painter 😂
I swear to god if he’s good at any sports, dances really well or is handy around the house I’m divorcing my wife.
I'm a 40 year old, straight, married, latino dad living in small town Texas, the heartland of Trump's America lol, and I still find Matteo incredibly relatable because he's authentic. But he’s a bottom lmap

The best surprise opening up RUclips today ❤🎉
Matteo is such a lovable character and accessible for everyone…. He’s hilarious and bright and big hearted…. Just love him…. Couldn’t wait to listen to this….
I love Matteo. He speaks from the heart and kills on stage.
Never thought I'd see these two together, I love Matteo so much
Thanks to Mateo for sharing that quotable quote from Barb about not being nice & being a good person. Exactly! It is exhausting “being nice,” and that resentfulness/emptiness after being nice & not being reciprocated-very relatable!
This guy can hold an audience's attention. Great storyteller.
I love Matteo! From his standup to his videos with Nick and the MTV re-watch he's been doing - everything he does is great!
Idea for future ep: JOSH JOHNSON
Yes Josh
Agree re Matteo and LOVE LOVE LOVE Josh! He's been in my viewing list for months now and I'm almost through everything he's done. Hilarious!

Clicked so fast. Absolutely LOVE Matteo he's hilarious love his crowd work advice shows, his reaction videos and videos with Nick.
Mateo is a Renaissance man
I wanna go to Italy with him so bad. He does travel right. And his Italian is really good.
Precisely!!
My heart cracked when ML spoke of feeling left out of certain things, and I remembered how it felt to be young and gay, but having no clue that’s what was “wrong” with me, what made me different. Mateo, so good. He taught me how to cook pasta 🍝❤
More more more!!! Three hours with you two! 👏🏼🖤🙌🏼
Clicked soooo fast! Love Matteo.
Two of my favourite people, let alone comedians! Lovely to see Mateo on the podcast.
Matteo is the best, great you had him on.
OK you talking about the guilt of wanting to be alone is relevant to EVERY MOTHER WITH TODDLERS!!!!! You get us.
Great discussion. Nicely done Neal & happy to know more about Matteo...
Matteo is already a young legend. He’s awesome.

What a wonderful, wonderful episode with Matteo. He’s such an artist. Music, painting, comedy…truly!
A great future guest would be Questlove, please! The best guest on The Champs (both times he was on) would be great in this format of a pod.
I didn’t know Mateo. However, I find it a warm, caring, brilliant human being. Very honest and relatable.
nobodys mad at you is a banger. i play it on loop in my head
Now THIS is gonna be a good one. ❤
Loved the cutting to matteo and james's bits about gay villians that was so great.
Minute 56-59 sums up my entire life!… he spoke the words my heart has been looking for to articulate my pain my entire life…..hearing him express himself hurts but also put a lot into focus…Gracias, Matteo!!…
I really love this podcast and the openness and vulnerability shared by men. It's really wonderful. Thanks for sharing guys.
Great ep! Matteo is always a fun listen
“My phone needs me” great line Neal, really great line!
Hat's off toe Neal and Matteo. Neal does great interviews always. But there seemed to be a real and honest truth and opening up from both men. The wavelength was connecting and that is always a pleasure to witness.
Love the clips cut in. Great editing.
Thank goodness for Matteo Lane. Really, the most incredibly talented, relatable, creative and multi-talented gentleman.
A great conversation all around. Neal Brennan asks the right questions and Matteo has also had a lot of real genuine humorous life connection experiences with which to fuel his responses.
These two together! So entertaining. Two of the best in the business.
It is great to see Matteo popping up everywhere. He's amazing on so many levels. If any of you haven't watched his 15 minute pod with his friend Nick "I Never Liked You" go binge it right now. I save up episodes to keep me going!!

"It must be so easy being white....I don't think about it." Yeah dude, that's exactly the point lol.
One of my favorite episodes 🙏
The whole “Being Gay in Relationships” is insane. What are these questions he’s asking??? Does he think gay dudes think this much about the stereotypes he has of gay men??
I just love Mateo.
I love Mateo. Beautiful conversation guys. 🎉
Yay! Very excited for this guest!
Great episode. Matteo has been awesome when I've seen him on WMBD podcast, also.
diminshing self for others and being humble are too different things. HUMILITY IS HIGHLY UNDERATED
Great One. Nothing more needs to be Said. Have a Wonderful Day!
Saw Matteo for the second time live and I'm so happy about all his success. It's so nice to be in an environment that feels so at time with jokes that feel made for me. Those jokes are the ones about playing old school Pokemon games on roms but also some of the gay ones 🤣

I hope you feel great Neal! Have a lovely day.

Matteo was a part of the line up when my family went to the Cellar during vacation around new years. got to sit stage left. I was a fan instantly.
Love me anything with Matteo in it.
Love you both! I’m pretty sure Maron coined the articulation of other comics’ success being done to him or at him. It might be his brand 😂
Waiting for this 🙌
I could listen to Neal conversations every day. Wait, I do listen every day.
He’s the kind of guy you just want to root for!
Love Matteo!
I love that he said some of it's being gay and some is just being Italian!! That is 100% facts!🤣
He’s amazing!❤❤❤
Wow! New found respect for Neal! I’m a queer guy who came about in the 90s and can totally relate to a lot of what Matteo was saying. Nice to see some representation! The Italian in me may impulsively buy his cookbook too…
Omg! Matteo!!! ❤
Am I wrong that every time I see him I scream POTATO!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That crocs dig is 10x more hilarious after I realized Neal was in crocs. 51:45
this is great
Matteo is fantastic. Skeletor 🤣 Great EP fellas
Blindspot 4 gayz = BIG FACTS. LOVE LOVE LOVE BOTH OF Y'ALL. 🤌🏽🗽👊🏿✌🏾✅️
As a straight guy, Matteo is my dream gay best friend 😂
Neal asked some incredibly intelligent/ caring questions
I absolutely love Matteo
How is it that I, an asian woman grew up in asia with a bit of american influence, relate to matteo so much!!!!!!

vacationing at you - pure gold 😂
Matteo is a real one.
What a gay episode! I love it!

Yessss
As a proud straight man I can confidently say this dude is flippin' hot
Neal is asking questions like he’s never talked to a gay person
He is asking questions like he has never even heard of the whole concept before. "Who is the man and who is the woman?" There is no woman. That`s the whole point.

Wow!
❤
Thank you
Matteo Lane is so talented at so many things it's almost selfish! 😂
another hit.
Love Mateo so much. So nice to hear someone with so many of the same blocks but with a different upbringing. 🙏❤
I subscribed for the blocks stayed for Mateo

I fucking love Mateo lane!
Matteo yes 🙌🏻 Crocs say so many sad things. The I’ve given up 💥
True story about gifts…Christmas and birthdays with my brothers…if they want or need it, they already bought it.
The next generation of comics are starting to plant their feet. Mateo is an absolutely phenomenal comic. The current NY regulars are spectacular. I'm glad to see the old heads fall and fall hard....
Love love love him ❤❤❤
