    My 90 year old father and 83 year old mother are Cypriot Turks and even though they lived through and survived the Turkish/Greek wars, they never taught me to hate Greeks. Dad said atrocities were committed by both sides and he refused to condemn an entire nation for the actions of a minority. Dad’s best friend is Greek, he speaks the language and respects the people. If only all Turks and Greeks could think the same way.

    I am Nigerian and have absolutely no right to this discussion, but you can see differences between two different Generation, the younger generation really wants nothing but peace and because most of them did not see the war, they don't want to live on what the older generations told them, they want to create their own future and not dwell on a fight they absolutely no nothing about aside what they were told in schools

  • @GeorgiRusev
    @GeorgiRusev 3 года назад +29

    Conclusion: Older generation is hostile, distrustful and still wears the painful scars of the past. However, younger generation tends to give more chance, ignores the ethnic issue and looks forward towards improving relations. That is true for both Greek and Turkish Cypriots. And that gives hope that in future a restoration of an unified Cyprus could be achieved.

If you are a minority of 20% or so, why should you have equal political rights? The best you can expect is the same status as the ethnic hungarians in Voivodina, Serbia. You cannot expect equal political power or representation. At least there is hope: the young people just want to drink beer together.

    I think it's time that both Turkey and Greece kept out of Cypriot Affairs and let us talk freely for ourselves then I am sure a just solution will evolve.There will be hurdles but without outsiders interfering (for their own selfish objectives I may add) they can be overcome.
    We have our own unique languages , customs and way of life which are not the same as mainland Greeks or Turks. Many Cypriot Turks are worried that they are being pushed aside with Turkeys policies.Not once have I seen any ethnic issues between us here in UK in fact quite the opposite.On my first visit to the North I was apprehensive but in reality we could not believe people were actually very welcoming it was like they realised the people in the south were not Aliens !
    What worries me the most is the fact that Turkey is continuing to tighten it's grip and soon the Turkish Cypriot minority there will have no say (by minority I mean amongst the settlers)
    I have deleted a lot more from comment because I have a tendency rant when a subject is so close to the heart . Just hope to see a viable and just solution in my life time Now that would be a PARTY . Also the guy at 1:25 is wrong. You took over Greece for 400 years and you're complaining about us torturing you. Get off your high horse. I am not against Turks, but I am against that old mindset. • @askannav2094
      @askannav2094 6 лет назад +3

      Well as i have posted on other videos on Cyprus, Turkey should be ashamed of the actions & the way it has conducted themselves. The occupation is illegal, there is no justification for Turkey to remain ( as a military power or sudo state) in Cyprus.
      Look at Varoshi ( varosha) for example , they stolen the properties, lands, homes & livelihood of the residence of Famagusta, and have allowed the hotels & homes to be looted, then abandoned , leaving them closed off from the rest of the Island for over 44 years to date.
      If the Turks cared in any way about Cyprus , this should of been returned to the residence immediately after the ceasefire in 1974, not held captive 44 years later with no settlement insight.
      Shame on Turkey, & shame on the International community for allowing this to occur & prolonging a settlement.....

My one close group of friends is a mixture of Greeks and Turks and we all see eachother as brothers.
    Unfortunately there is huge history that cuts deep for the older generation. We have to respect and acknowledge their trauma and their past. On both parts, the Greeks and the Turks have made mistakes.
    At the end of the day, the most important thing is getting the best outcome for Cyprus. Politics and Religion is a huge factor that will further cause delays in any negotiations to be made.

    Let's set aside the inter-communal violence by extremists and the arguments about who provoked these events. The fact remains that the minority in this country with the military help of an external power captured a disproportional big chunk of the island by forcing out of their homes the legal owners(80% of private property in the northern part of the island belongs to GCs), an illegal action already condemned by all international organisations. Also, an action which the GC side is, and understandably of course, not willing to forgive and forget. Now, this minority already benefited by a brutal occupation, sit on property and land taken illegally(always according to UN resolutions) and demand from the GCs to forget this pillage and from the international community to legitimise the plundering by recognising them as an independent authority. And to add insult to the injury, the minority of 18% (+ the illegal Turk settlers) demand, in case of reunification, beyond the political equality, special rights which are, at least, discriminatory, inequitable and one-sided for the rest of the population(the native ethnically Greek-Cypriots and the minorities the Cypriots Armenians, and Maronites). Since when a minority of 18 % can demand and to have rotating presidency ignoring this way the will of the majority. This becomes more wicked and obscene in the following scenario. The X candidate is elected as the next president of the country with 51% of the Tcs votes, meaning that the country will have a president chosen by only 9.5% of the whole electorate. Beyond this, the minority of 18%, demands 40% of all the positions in the security forces and civil service, and of all the seats in the parliament while they are still occupying illegally the 39% of the island sitting walled behind their pseudo-state. At the same time they, most of them, have acquired european travel documents and id cards of the Republic of Cyprus, the only recognised legal entity on the island. By the way, the EU owe nothing to the TCs and their pseudo-state. The GCs did all the work. They negotiated and implemented the huge body of EU rules by reforming their own system for decades. So all the EU membership perks come only through the official Republic of Cyprus and the efforts of the GCs. But yet again, if the TCs feel that their outrageous demands are reasonable, I invite them to read EU accession reports on how their so- called “motherland” and “protector” treats its minorities and more specifically the Kurds, who comprise the 30% of Turkey's population or the supposedly protected by international agreements Greek community of Istanbul who are in the verge of extinction after 3000 years of continuous presence. At the same time, the Muslim-Turkish community in Greece tripled its size and thrives, always under legal and political protection. Be reasonable and respect the rest of the Cypriots so they will respect you back or otherwise return your Cypriot documents, denounce all benefits from your status as european citizens and citizens of RoC and remain isolated from the rest of the world like a thief trapped in a well full of treasures.

    We accept Turkish Cypriots that lived in Cyprus before 1974 as fully fledged Cypriot citizens with full rights. But we don't accept Turk natives coming to the island illegally occupying houses,lands,businesses as their own for free. Our problem is with native Turks and Turkey that still after 44 years illegally occupy half the island and hinder the growth of the island economically, agriculturally and politically. We can NOT under any circumstance allow native Turks to become Cypriot citizen because they are 80 million we are 1 mil they will flood Cyprus and we will become a Muslim country in here. As long as Turkey continues like this there is No recognition,NO EU,NO oil,NO gas. There is an estimated 350 thousand Turkish natives there now and they breed like rabbits and another 80 million ready to jump ship. I don't see a solution to the problem all we could do is start again from zero and rebuild all we have lost.

    Ottoman Turks managed balkans, anatolia, middle east and northern africa during 621 years. All places out of turkey lived under turkish managment during minimum 4 centuries and maximum 6 centuries. Ottoman empiror was the only super power of the world in 4 centuries of those 6 centuries. If Ottoman Turks have tried to kill all of the minor groups or changed their cultures, no one could have prevented the Turks. Justice is very important for turks, so they could set up very strong and long live empirors as selchuk, ottoman, great hun, europian hun, gokturk empirors etc. One more points, Turks never attack or kill innocent people, women and children. This is one of Turks' basic traditions. At present, there are still asurrians, greeks, romans, georgians, jews and armenians in Turkey. The most of armenians were sent away from turkey in ottoman time, because they did the same things as greek cypriots aganst turkish cypriots did in cyprus before 1974: killing innocent turks. FINALLY, TURKS ARE GREAT NATION WHICH CAN NEVER BE UNDERSTOOD BY SIMPLE PEOPLE.

First of all im not an Erdoğan supporter i never voted for him and i never will , im an atheist. About Cyprus iy was the Greek Cypriots who attacked and killed many Turkish Cypriots. They wanted Enosis but ofcourse you know all about this. These killings went on for many years, Turkey wanted to intervene but was stopped by the US in 1964 . But at the end killings and enosis dreams went on Makarios was taken down so Turkey made the operation. My point in this matter is ; Greeks wanted the whole island and the wanted to unite the island with Greece, they were eager but they lost north part instead their eagerness.. Then years later Erdoğan made a huge mistake and suppoerted the Annan plan , made a lot campains in the island and the Turks voted yes but thanks to the Greeks they voted no . About the events in 1955 you are totally right, it was the governments fault they gave such statements so Turkish public attacked Greeks in Istanbul. It is a shame for us Turks and im very sorry about that. About the events right after the war i dont agree with you , Greek army invaded our motherland and made a lot of brutality killing and rapings so in was a revenge for all those it is so normal. what was the greek army doing there in the first place? This is where i dont agree with you, ofcourse Greece want to take Izmir ofcourse greece wants to take Istanbul and they will always want that, maybe you dont want that but i know so many Greeks who whats that so much. About the the arming the islands, there was an agreement signed between us you cant arm those islands, thats how we agreed and gave them away and you are breaking the rule, do you really believe those arms will protect those islands if Turkey wants to invade them? You are just giving us a reason just like you did in Cyprus.

    when turkey invaded they sent loads of main land Turkish to live in the north, turkey told them to live their and gave them houses and land for free, gave them hotels and villas which belonged to greek families. ALL original Turkish Cypriots want to rejoin with the Greek Cypriots!!!!!!!!
    going back to my earlier point, when turkey sent main land turkish people to the north, they said to them "to live there and take houses and land and all the business............hahaha the problem they had was, how does a non educated, peasant mainland Turk run a hotel?????????????????? what can he do with it???
    to rejoin, all the land and houses to have to go back to its original owners , it's like Israel and Palestine, if palistine got its land back then I'm sure every Turkish would say "it is only right for the first owners to get their land back which was stolen" so, if the Turkish are true to their morals and are not munaafik then they should have no problem giving stolen land back!!!
    I'm a Greek Cypriots Muslim all stolen land is not legally recognized by man's law or by god!!!!
    in conclusion, only main land Turks don't want Cyprus to unify again, Turkish Cypriots do want to rejoin !!

    • @proton6179
      @proton6179 4 года назад

      @KARA NÖKER Well, it may be your personal opinion but Turkish people voted for an Islamistic government the last 20 years which is, to say the least ,conservative, which coalited with the far right party. So either the elections are being manipulated or Turkish people are in their majority not very liberal. Greeks are conservative, but they voted for a left government, i mean , this says a lot, while in turkey there is literally no no-nationalistic party except for the HDP, which is prosecuted by the way. Now I am sure there are millions of people who are not conservative, who are liberal and modern, like e.g. the people of the Gezi protests, but unfortunately its not a majority yet. In Cyprus folks are for sure more liberal than in Turkey but not as much as in western societies because if so there would be a cultural integration, the only thing withholding it, is the religion, in my opinion.

      The thing is unbiasedly turkey gives us (north cyprus) money and helps our government for so many things.North cant survive without Turkey at least for now.As historically cyprus was a beautifull and peacefull compound country and i beleive it was Britain s fault

    The solution is this, first, all Turks from Turkey must go back to Turkey, second, all Turkish Cypriots from Cyprus can either join there brothers and go to Turkey or, they can be baptized in to the Orthodox faith, change there names to Christian names , speak greek and we all can live like real brothers.

    What a load of bollocks.Get your facts right first before you show what people are saying. You do not expect to bargain with a country that was meant to guarantee you. Instead it invaded took 38% of the country it was supposed to look after. That is where you should have started your report from.The woman says 100,000 want to come back to the north side.ITS THEIR LAND MADAM. Who are you to deny them that. You are 18% of that island yet you think you own the lot.You dont.Bringing over 200,000 Turks to change the demographics is a war crime.In the end the legal entity is the ROC and the Turks no0w in the north are not recognized as a nation and their northside is not recognized either.Look at what is legal and recognized before you go round asking common thieves what their opinion is.
