yea but as long as people don’t aggressively smash the bottom of the stanley on hard surfaces, the chances of getting lead poisoning are very rare, and i’m sure we all know by now not to aggressively break the bottoms of cups, so as long as the circle barrier on the bottom stays in place, lead poisoning won’t be an issue!
Apparently Dicks Sporting goods, Walmart, and (Apparently a FEW Lowes) can all stock stanley cups. You can spend 45$ for one in store. But there are some factory identical dupes. Like Walmart has a 15$ Ozark trail edition. (Has a Ozark trail logo emblazoned into the steel). Temu has a mostly factory identical 6$ option, though the 6$ options are mostly black/white. But it's also really easy to buy accessories. I highly recommend the 50 cent silicon boot, it adds slip resistance + grip and protects the stainless steel protector for the lead solder on the bottom exterior vaccum seal. Having 10 extra straws for a dollar helps washing too. Makes it much easier to rotate. You can also get 0.5-2$ vinyl stickers to decorate the cup, they're waterproof and pretty durable, frankly i prefer my bottle vanilla, i think it looks better. But if you have a crowd, a sticker could make it easier to tell apart. Five below i've heard also has a plastic "stainless steel" cup for 5$. But i've heard it's cheaply made and the stainless steel might just be a band. I've heard the five below cups exteriors might be made entirely of plastic and it might not have the vaccuum seal, and i've heard reports of them breaking easier or the handles snapping off much more often. I have a temu dupe and it's honestly pretty good. I thought the stanley cup hype was stupid but after trying one, it's actually a pretty good cup. Insulated, durable, it won't change taste like leeching plastic, won't shatter into shards like tasteless glass. It's surprisingly lightweight, and it can keep your coffee/soda hot/cold the whole day, protect your computer more from some spills (lid) Oh, and while other thermos can be more heat resistant with screw on vacuum lids vs plastic sip lids. Jokes aside, it and it's same factory identical knockoffs are pretty good cups. - They store a lot ( 40 oz / 5 cups) , they don't leave the taste or leech chemicals like plastic. - They're tasteless like glass, but don't shatter and are durable - Vs other thermos, they don't keep it AS cold with a sip plastic lid vs a screw insulator. But it's much quicker to sip from a straw (0.1s), than unscrew two handed in 5s. Also you can buy a one of the few temu identical factory identical "knockoff"s for 5-8$ each. Meaning you can get a pair of 3 knockoffs and have 1 for soda, one for coffee, one for cleaning for 15-20$. Vs a single stanley for 40-70$. Also if you're worried about the solder lead pellet sealed with paint and a steel button (replace if it ever falls out at the bottom exterior of the cup), you can get a silicon boot off temu and 10 extra straws for 1.50$. And having 10 extra durable reusable thick straws is super handy for cleaning, since you won't have to wait for them to dry out. It's not Jesus's second coming though, it's just a cup. But i'd say it's a lot like a nike shoe / Ice cube tray. It's not gonna reinvent your world, it's still overhyped, some people spend 200-2000$ on them they'll never get back. But it's still a surprisingly good product, 'dupe' or not. I got some temu 5$ steel knockoffs and love it. I have a normal thermos but the convenience factor sells it for me. Screwing isn't that much effort, but i can't clean it by hand when the opening is only 2 inches wide. The stanley is also surprisingly lightweight for size. It weighs about half as much as my 24 oz glass mug, despite holding 2x more + insulation. It also fits into car cup holders, exercise equipment cup holders, and it's a great daily computer/car/camping cup because it doesn't spill easily, (though it does leak like 1-1.5 tbps/s if tipped over 45-70 degrees).
