  • Every week, Eco India brings you stories that inspire you to build a cleaner, greener and better tomorrow.
Companies in India have developed machines which can suck water out of humid air, filter it and pour it out on the press of a button. These are called air water generators and could play a role in supporting water needs in a sustainable way.

Not considering the amount of energy they use waste water treatment is more efficient.

This is great, but wasn't it Moses West who actually invented the first atmospheric water generators? Regardless, I'm happy to see this being used in other parts of the world. But please give credit where credit is due, as Moses West has invented this a few years ago in Texas.

Air conditioners are already doing this. Why do we need another machine to produce distilled water? Why don't use the water from air conditioning?

Simple question if using AC is causing a raise In temperature then using the same technology for water extraction doesn't cause any harm to nature?😢

    Shoddy reporting with inaccurate facts.
    1. It does not produce pure water. Contaminants in the air will be present and needs to be filtered out. ie, a filteration system is needed. Quite possibly a bad idea to put in an hospital.
    2. It requires significant amount of energy since its basically a dehumidifier and a purifier. So not a very environmentally friendly solution if there are better sources of water available.
    3. It captures the water vapour in the air. So works well in humid climates but not so well in dry regions.

      1. ''''''MEGHDOOT produces water to international standard, which is 100% Microbe free. Our filtration process removes all external particles and dissolved organic pollutants, There by making our water completely pure, fully potable and of International standards.'''''
(that info is from their website )
      2. '''''' It requires significant amount of energy since its basically a dehumidifier and a purifier. So not a very environmentally friendly solution if there are better sources of water available.''''
as far as what an individual use can produce their usually are not better sources of water in third world countries
3.''''' the machines perform in the temperature range of 15°C - 45°C and relative humidity levels of 25% and above.'''''''
(that info is from their website )
      that is desert level humidity''

I'm pretty sure that the water is UV/RO/TDS filtered

Except for the filtration, my dehumidifier "removes water from the air", too.

Dehumidifier doesn't work economically. Best thing is harvesting rainwater.

To increase ground water it's just easy. Just upkeep the lakes and ponds which were there before british and you will get high ground water levels. Just see to the extend at which rajas contructed ponds to increase ground water in bangalore area.

So it is distilled water but it isn't drinkable until you buy minerals and add them back into the water. Kind of useless then. Why can't you drink the distilled water?

This is not a good idea for multiple reasons but
Better use of energy would be to recycle waste water and purify them, increase the ground water by rain water harvesting and finally improve your self consumption water efficiency.
And with all the hydrogen projects coming in india, water is going to be the scarcest of resources unless we do some proper planning starting from now.
