  • No, that's not Charley Chase...it's his brother Paul Parrott in "POST NO BILLS" (1923) with a new score by Ben Model, performed on the mighty Miditzer virtual theatre organ. From the DVD release "American Slapstick 2" from All Day Entertainment (uploaded with permission). Order the DVD set from www.alldayentertainment.com
JImmy Parrott had a successful series of one-reelers at Hal Roach in the early 1920s, billed onscreen as Paul Parrott, before moving behind the camera and directing; his directorial credits list him as James Parrott. The shorts are inventive and funny, and you can see why they are often misidentified as early Charley Chase shorts. More info about Chase can be found at www.charley-chase.com
The Miditzer (www.virtualorgan.com) is a FREE virtual instrument that emulates the function and sound of a movie palace theatre organ.

Paul/James Parrott is as great as his brother, isn't he? Very nice to see the wonderful George Rowe also.

As to the Wikipedia dating, yes, there was a film by this title in 1896-- in fact, it's such a natural as a title that there's also 'Post No Bills' from 1906, 1914 and 1991. It's surprising there aren't more.

The big poster showing 'Gloria Snootful' in 'Her Thirsty Husband' is a pretty good goof on Gloria Swanson and her De Mille domestic pieces... Some good fun in this one, though one has to get past the main character being really STUPID! Many of the gags are very predictable, but then again many are very clever. Just wish it weren't being run at sound speed! This was not how these were shown when they were new. But I'm glad to find it showing here!

Excelsior This film was probably run at the speed you see it here in most theaters. I've done a lot of research and have even found to-the-trade publications from the early 1920s for a number of comedy shorts that indicate a running speed of 90 ft/min.

Paul Parrot était engagé dans les studios hall roach et il était le frère de Charlie chaque. Mais il ne fera pas la carrière de sont frère même qu' avec le parlant il sombrera progressivement à la dépression dans des films de plus en plus médiocres.
