Honestly, I'm wondering how the OG fans' perception of DMC would have changed is NuDante had instead just preened in front of the mirror for a bit and then said something like, "Not bad..." or "I guess that I look pretty damn good in white."
Hell, instead of it being a wig, just have a mop land on his head, have him give one of the above reactions, then put in an optional finisher for the next boss fight where NuDante ends the battle by shoving the mop handle first through its head so that the mop head gives the boss an OG Dante style "hairdo" while NuDante looks at it between fingers framing it like a camera and saying "Nah, it just doesn't work as well on you," and activating that finisher unlocks a joke cosmetic of NuDante wearing the mop head as hair, a full mop as a sword or staff, and two spray bottles instead of handguns and a non-joke cosmetic where he's wearing an OG Dante wig and OG Dante's traditional weapons.

You know the funny thing about that scene?
Spoilers for those who haven't bothered to play it fully through.
He actually gets white hair at the end of the game, when he, as the skin puts it, "awakens." It's an example of his character growth in the game, going from being selfish and not caring about helping people to growing an attachment to his brother and Kat, to when Vergil turns on the both of them, he declares himself the protector of the people.
You'd be surprised at the effort put into DmC if you actually opted to take off the rose glasses and look past the edgy shit. I mean, you looked past when OG Dante got stabbed by a sword and then slowly slinked up with the sword going through him and blood splattering all over like some 12 year old's fanfiction attempt in DMC1, right?

One of my honorable mentions is the Defender reboot for the original Xbox. In 1981 Defender basically was made with one question in mind; what if Space Invaders was more open spaced? It's one of the more popular arcade games, which makes sense with Williams Electronics behind it. They'd later go on to make Sinistar! Then when the Xbox came along, let's just say it was a huge era for classic IPs to get updated, a lot of which I played; Panzer Dragoon Orta, Jet Set Radio Future, and a definite personal favorite, the MechAssault series, based off Mech Warrior. Alright, that's where Defender comes in. Unlike most of the reboots on this list, it's not that bad. It at least had an interesting concept to its gameplay. It's a cross between an alien spaceship blasting simulator and a pseudo Real Time Strategy. Like the arcade game, your goal is to save humans from the aliens. But in the reboot, you can also bring them to a facility to get tanks, which you'll need desperately when the Manti, as they're called in 2001, start trying to destroy your crucial colonies. Especially considering your ship is a bit hectic to control and aiming by yourself isn't exactly recommended. Most critics didn't seem to hate the game, but they found it rather mediocre. So it sadly comes to no surprise that nothing really came of this; no more Defender games have been made since. And that's a shame too since the idea of dogfighting and strategizing in the same game could make for an interesting game, despite Defender pretty much being one of the more traditional instances of a failed reboot. If you haven't played it, there is a longplay you can check out for context.
They did make a GBA version that of course tried to pay more homage to the 80s game, but it honestly looks worse than the arcade.

If I remember correctly, that Alone in the Dark game had so many bizarre gameplay elements in the game that you were still getting tutorials almost all the way up to the end of the game because the gameplay and button commands literally changed depending on which level you were on and what they wanted you to do for this scenario. I think it also let you skip through entire chunks of the game without having to do them, almost like they knew how bad it was and that no one would ever want to play through it.

    • @shawnfields2369
      @shawnfields2369 2 года назад +1

Yeah, as long as it stays an alternate timeline, non-canon to the current DMC timeline; and as fun as it was as a standalone game, yeah; I don't think we'll be seeing another one set in that timeline. Because; it sold LESS than DMC2 did, which was the previous lowest selling Devil May Cry game, so don't expect another one anytime soon. That being said, to me personally, I don't really see a bad DMC game. I've played them all, and they're all great. From DMC1 to 5, to me, there's no such thing as a bad DMC game. Although DMC2 and the 2013 reboot nearly fall into that category, I did enjoy certain aspects of both games, for the 2013 game, the gameplay, visual style, ranking system, soundtrack, voice acting, stunt work, all good as usual. With DMC2, I enjoyed, the gameplay, combos, soundtrack, and Lucia as a character. The voice acting was pretty bad, and the graphics don't look all that impressive, as a sequel to one of the single greatest action/horror series. But to be fair, DMC2 was only the 2nd Devil May Cry game at the time, and the devs had no clue how what to do with Dante next. Same with the the reboot. But it was good as it's own game. Just didn't need to be called "Devil May Cry", is all. But I do hope we get a sequel to DMC5. But if there's another reboot, then just take what worked here, and take out what didn't work, and focus on improving what does work. That's a good first step to making a good sequel.

@@daxernsthenobody Hey, dude, I 1,000,000% agree! Nero needs his own game, like DMC4, but he doesn't switch off to Dante, Lady, Trish, or anyone else, just Nero, all the way through. Same with Lady and Trish, just a DMC game starring them, and nobody else you can play as(unless you beat the game and unlock them, like Vergil, or maybe Dante?), Lady and Trish need their own game after being background characters for so long, and always helping Dante/Nero, whoever, out whenever they can. I've played literally every DMC game, from the very first one on the PS2, to the current one. They're all GREAT. Hell, I even enjoyed DMC2 in some guilty pleasure type aspect. But I really did like what they did with Lucia's character, how they tried to make her have this serious backstory about being a demon, created by Arius, but ultimately, called a "failure", by him, so she tries to protect the people of Vie De Marli instead. Sure, it was only the 2nd Devil May Cry game at that time, but I think it's ok. Not as good as DMC1, but at least it tried something, and didn't play it safe. DMC3 was way better, and was the first time we saw former Power Rangers take on the role of DMC characters. In this case, it was the former Quantum Ranger(Eric Myers), who would become the standard voice of Vergil throughout the series, but got his start in the DMC games, here. But not the reboot, obviously. But ironically enough, another former Ranger took on the role of Vergil in the DMC reboot. It was the Purple Wolf Ranger, RJ, from Power Rangers: Jungle Fury(if you haven't seen Power Rangers, or don't care, don't worry about it), it's just something I grew up with, and to hear one of my favorite actors playing Vergil, one of my favorite characters in one of my favorite series, is just something I can't help but bring up almost every time I talk about the Power Rangers and DMC. But yeah, I can't wait until DMC6, and I hope that maybe that'll be Nero's first lone starring role, and I do hope they show what Dante and Vergil did after they escaped hell. There's no way you can keep those 2 down. But I'd also love a DMC game where you play as Dante; Vergil, Nero, Lady, and Trish, but you have to unlock them, in-game, and at the start, only Nero's selectable, but he's still the main star. Plus, after Vergil finds out Nero's his son, they HAVE to keep going. They have to. So that Nero learns who his dad and uncle are, and so they Dante and Vergil can meet their future family(remember Kyrie?), how her and Nero are still together, even in DMC5? Well, maybe in 6, they get married, have a family, and Dante and Vergil meet their grandkids, and nephews and nieces(I don't know how family like that works), also, Nero is also played by a former Power Ranger, and well renowned anime actor, Johnny Bosch, who's also been, Mr. Kaneda from Akira, Vash the Stampede from Trigun, Kung Jin from Mortal Kombat X, Ichigo Kurosaki from Bleach, Yu Narukami from Persona 4, and tons of other roles. But Nero is one of his best roles. Although I'd definitely love to see just a Dante/Nero game, or Lady/Trish game, filled with all the greatness the DMC series has been known for having. I mean, this year's the DMC franchise's 20th anniversary, right? So maybe someday we'll see DMC6, we just gotta wait... and be hopeful about it. I'm sure if we wait, we'll see news in the works for Devil May Cry 6! I mean; it has only been 2 years since DMC5, let's give it some time to breathe first, and give us(the fans), some time to miss the series first, so we don't get a rushed out cash grab on the good name of Devil May Cry series. And find a way to put it on the Switch too. The Switch needs a DMC game... and so do I. Ever since my dumb PS4 broke, I can't even go back to DMC5. Which was a great game. They have to port the series to the Switch somehow. Including a new one in the future. Here's to the future DMC6, and here's hoping it'll be just as great as 3, 4, and 5,(my 3 personal favorite DMC games),if not better than those. So, as Dante always says, "Let's Rock!!!!!!"

Capcom themselves outright stated DURING ITS DEVELOPMENT that it wouldn't be one and they'd leave the door open to the possibility of a proper DMC5 someday, which ended up happening. Sonic Boom also wasn't a reboot attempt, nor did Sega ever pretend it was--in fact, Sonic Team didn't even make that one. None of the games you seem to think count as "reboots" in the series have been except Sonic 06, literally the only time they've tried a hard reboot of the series as opposed to a change of direction. They learned their lesson with that one's reception. RE7 also isn't a reboot, it's BLATANTLY not one. This video seems to demonstrate a poor grasp of a what a reboot even is.

I actually played both Mirror's Edge and Catalyst recently, and I hate to admit it, but Catalyst is waaaay better. Mirror's Edge has aged like milk. It was never a perfect game to begin with, what with its anemic plot and characters, but the art direction, atmosphere, and gameplay were so memorable. But the game play by today's standards is teeeeeerrible.
The game doesn't default to 90 FOV, and you have to go into game files to change this. On top of that, the animations do not transition well between one another, even when doing a "compounded" activity that requires two animations, like jumping from pipe to pipe. Because of these qualities, Mirrors Edge is the last FPS I've played since Fallout 4 VR that made me genuinely sick.
The detection mechanics are also really buggy, the gameplay is waaaaay slower than I remember, the level design is a small scattering of things that don't work, and then usually like one good option and one really well hidden equally good option, and then one "watch a youtube tutorial" best option. It's really unintuitive. Also it crashes like, alllllll the time. Maybe my bad experience has something to do with playing the Steam version though, but by review standards, nobody seems as bothered as I am.

Really, Adventure 3? On this list? Even ignoring its existence in Generations, the game has never been more than a followup to entries like Adventure 2 and Shadow. The only contradictory aspect is Blaze's changed background, and that's simply because the developers had a different idea who the character was compared to the people who made Rush. Why wasn't Ratchet & Clank 2016 in its place? Sure, the game itself is good, but if you look at an objective standpoint, it didn't earn enough profit and failed to spawn a sequel. I love DMC - Devil May Cry, but not as they advertised it. As a reboot, it's not great. It falls into all of the traps that reboots often fall into - the biggest one being taking swipes at the series that fans love in an edgy attempt to show how much better the remake is over the original. But if you look at it as a prequel rather than a remake? Sure, there are still some issues with the continuity, but it explains a lot about Dante and Virgil's history with Mundus, why Mundus would have such a personal vendetta against the two, and it ends with Dante being at the point his character arc starts with in 3. It's still not perfect, but I feel it does work better as a prequel than a reboot.

My first thought wasn't DmC, it was Bomberman Zero for Xbox 350 on launch, because at least Sonoc 06 had good muaic and DmC had some good ideas (mainly Limbo's level design, don't castigate me fellow DMC fans).

That DMC "reboot" was such a slap to the face that it wasn't even funny. As for Sonic... well, bringing up Sonic '06 AGAIN is kind of beating a dead horse, I'd say. Also, there are WAY worse Sonic games (and games in general) than Sonic '06. Out of all the bad Sonic games, Sonic '06 is the least bad and the most salvageable. I would argue that games like Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Lost World are way worse.

It's almost never a good idea to reboot a franchise that only had one entry in it prior

For the 100th time: Sonic 06 is not a reboot. It continues the story of Shadow The Hedgehog, which itself continues the story of Sonic Adventure 2. Leave this poor game alone.

DMC reboot Dante acts like the ignored/outcast kid grown up. Which is fine, because we have decided to ignore and outcast him as a fandom

It's just that while it was a good game, it wasn't a great reboot because it missed what lots of people loved about the franchise it rebooted from.

    Mirror’s Edge Catalyst wasn’t a bad game.
But it wasn’t a necessary game. A sequel to the first one would have been *so* cool, and they chose to make a whole new game. I really hope that they decide to go back to the first game’s universe for at least one game.

Remember, people, just because a game is deemed a failure doesn't mean it's bad. It just means it wasn't a financial or commercial hit and didn't make an impact. That's why Sticker Star, despite being a mediocre reboot to Paper Mario, isn't a failure because it led to Color Splash and The Origami King.
