It would be a dirty ass move if Alex doesn’t get his rematch, when so many others had theirs. Max Holloway, Israel Adesanya, Daniel Cormier, and more. Alex did a lot for the UFC, least they can do is give him 1 more chance, he was the boogeyman of the division forever, and he did take the fight too early.

I have concerns with Topuria as champ. He has everything you want skill wise, but he already wants to turn down top contenders and pretend Volk doesn’t deserve the rematch. He’s also said he’s going to retire at like 30, and he’s already wanton to jump weightclasses. He will either be a dominant champion or a guy who sits on the belt and ducks certain opponents.

I still don’t understand why people are suddenly acting like Volk isn’t the fucking truth, he did everything he said, went up a weight class, and most of you that are hating on him were saying he beat Islam the first time.
It's the fickle nature of MMA fans unfortunately mate. You have one loss, ans they jump ship, also plenty of people are just waiting to hate on popular fighters.
The fucked up thing is that most fighters wouldn't have even taken those two matches. The second Islam fight was 11 days notice after he had surgery a few months beforehand while in a camp to fight someone completely different, and the Ilia fight wasn't even 6 months after that Islam fight.
Volk also didn't seem to give Ilia the necessary respect and didn't come in with a solid gameplan like he normally does. He tried to fight Ilia at his own game for much of that match, and by the time he actually went to try and control his opponent, the game was already done.
If Volkanovski goes in as he normally does I'd bet on him in the rematch, he just needs to take some time, fully recover, and actually prepare properly this time. Ilia is good, but Volkanovski has far more experience and has done well against a far more dangerous opponent.
Like, I can't see Ilia going up to Lightweight and arguably winning against the current champion. People just assume that fighters on a streak are done after one loss, they did the same thing with Oliveira. Meanwhile they forget that GSP, one of the greatest to ever do it, lost twice to fighters he rematched and later destroyed.

Stop crying, now that he's the champion there's absolutely no logical reason for him to go to Volk's home to defend his title. Nah he was super confident going in there. You could tell even in the first round. He was calm and poised as can be. Even when volk was touching him up on the outside he never got frustrated or flustered or nervous. He just kept with his gameplan.

That's the mistake Volk has made. When a fighter gets knocked out even if it was on a short notice fight replacement, then a fighter should take some time off. If Volk let Topuria fight some of his previous opponents, like hollaway, ortega ,then volk could have studied Ilia topurias game much better. And volk could see that topuria is not someone to be taken lightly especially his lightning fast precise striking in heavy boxing stance.
Volk should have used wrestling( just like islam makhachev did against volk )and even if he wanted to strike with topuria, volk shouldn't try hurry, he should've been more patient. Well this is fight game, champions get defeated sometimes and new champions arises. Volk will return but he has to erase this past success of being a dominant champ but should take some time off

I'd say Volk is pretty tactical, he's just been self-assured by so long at the top, and on a good day, to be fair, he could likely have won both matches. But he took too many risks, and paid for that, hopefully he realizes and gets back in the saddle.
Yeah, he literally didn't use his normal gameplan of adapting to his opponents strategy and then shutting them down to control the match. He didn't take enough time to recover, obviously, but it also seems like he thought Ilia was going to be easy and he could just KO him early on by playing Ilia's own game. It was stupid, and he paid for that, but maybe this will be a wakeup call.
It's a little like Charles losing to Islam when his headspace was absolutely fucked due to the build up of their fight (because him being considered a title challenger and the underdog after everything he did was disgusting), yes, they lost, but if they can fix their headspace and address the issues that caused those losses then they are still incredible fighters that can come back from it.
The great thing about Volkanovski is that he was always fighting, he never really stopped, it came back to bite him eventually, but he was exciting in a way I don't see Ilia (who's already making it clear he wants to move up to fight Islam and will retire at 30) doing the same. It's much the same with Islam honestly, Charles took fights whenever they appeared, but I feel like Islam will do a Khabib and only fight once a year holding up the division as a whole.
I do believe that as Volk said after makhachev loss at the post fight press conference, he was not well mentally, he was dealing with some issues of his own. It happened with Dustin poirier and all the great fighters. So they should rest and learn to let go of everything for a time period. Until it gets better ....but volk said he didn't wanted to wait etc etc, that showed his anxiousness or anxiety, restlessness, etc. Every great fighter has felt it.
