First time seeing your channel while researching initiations/rites of passage, I think you did an amazing job explaining their significance to personal/spiritual development beyond simply becoming an adult/warrior/fertile etc. Modern society strongly needs this and I’ve been trying to imagine which methods would be effective and practical in our world, hopefully you do a video on that
Well said, sir. Your words definitely resonate. I myself am one of those people who was immensely fortunate in having had the mentorship of strong men during periods of my life when I truly needed it. I was challenged and tested. I spent a LOT of time on my own in the wilderness of western Canada - earning my bones as it were. These days however, it seems as though for the most part that kind of opportunity has been lost for so many young men. Women need it too, but they need a different kind of initiatory process than we do. What's important is that we recognize the need for wise mentorship and initiatory processes , and that for those of us who are able, we might in some way reach out to help these young rising stars. Inaction will only lead to our society decaying even further. Thanks for sharing your wisdom here.
This is traditional Indigenous peoples living 101. Nothing new here. In addition to that, the work of the Hoffman Institute does great work that provides modern day tools for dealing with all the issues touched on here.
Hey, i need some advice... I am a Scoutmaster for 14 boys in a Scout Troop, ages 11-16. I want to be able to offer them challenges that can serve as stepping stones in their development. I wouldnt really be able to do more due to them being underage and like you said, our society is adverse to friction and risk. What can I do? I already work on exposure therapy as well as encouraging them to push themselves to complete tense or uncertain activities, safely
Hi there, thanks for reaching out. I'd be eager to aid them in the exploration of a 'hero's journey', obviously somewhat watered down, but still with the essence of facing fears, leaving more immature parts of ourselves behind and bringing back 'the gift' to their families and friends. The work of Robert Bly would also be very useful here.
i think it would be awesome to have separate and collaborative challenges. starting a fire by friction. making knots that would achieve some real problem solving activity. perhaps make a net, catch a fish, create a fire and place to rotisserie cook them, then be able to string them high in a tree where a bear couldn’t get to them. could have a team effort that roles switch or the team could figure out individual gifts that they would need to train the others in when the roles switch.

Hey man it's Isaac (changed RUclips name due to wanting more privacy). Re literature on initiation, can you recommend anything outside of Iron John? I already read/have that book. Been searching online this evening specifically for literature on tribal/cultural initiation for boys but haven't had much luck. Cheers man hope all's good.
There's loads out there, depends what flavour you're after tho; classic masculine initiaiton, spiritual initiation, christian initiation? Lemme know and I'll recommend some stuff
@@AwakenedMan thanks man. All of the above, really. Just looking to expand my knowledge to contextualise mine and other men's contemporary experiences etc.
Aah guys hello from Italy, do You think a copy of that e-mail can be sent to me? I'm a dad of 4 sons and I'd like to have a sort of a special day (initiation) every 6 years with each of them. For now I'd like to start simple and not very difficult... But in more or less 6 years the oldest is going to be 12 so the stick will rise up of course LOL
