I used to jump on the 27 back in the late 70s early 80s, in 86 I was 20, just to relax all the way to the last stop and back. Loved doing that on the 14 (from Hornsey Road) Great uploads as usual, still haven't seen myself yet but hopefully I'll turn up. To be on a video like this would be unreal.
Thank you.... a guard on the Isle of Wight saw himself on one of my 1987 IOW uploads although it was 30 years after i had filmed it! So strage things do happen.....
Another great trip down memory lane . Know every inch of these routes. I would have been 19 at the time. was trying my best to see if I could recognize the people on the streets. I WISH IT WAS HD! And as for the lady falling, Ive seen that happen a few times. It was quite normal for me and my friends to sprint down Hounslow high st to jump on the moving bus! Can you imagine what they would say today? OH NO YOU CAN DO THAT.
I'm pleased you enjoyed it. I was the same age when i filmed this, and an all-in-one video camera as state-of-the-art back then, the best you could get short of professional TV style kit..... The camera cost £1300.00 but i hadn't got that sort of money so i paid on HP.... it was £1762.00 inc a spare battery......
Had Continental Pioneer's Service up Richmond Hill ceased by then. Their yard (Richmond Station Coal Yard ?) with Ted Brakhills collection of TV and trading RTs along with I think some of Top Deck Travel odd Lodekkas as overspill from their main yard could be found in the area until development came along
Yes, the service had finished by now. I remember the yard well, i visited once or twice and have photos of the vehicles in there. I wonder what happend to RT 44, or MBS 520?...... Long gone now i imagine......
@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus Think a couple went into Almeys at Borehamwood ? Ians Bus Stop Pages should have the final answer. I recall photographing a couple of RTs somewhere in Hammersmith/Shepperton that one of the restoration companys had done (LPC Coachworks ? - the same company later attempted RT1 which had a few problems. I knew Prince Marshall but not to assist financially or with hands owing to my own work pressures.
I remember this day well.... I started at west Norwood, then to New Cross and finally here. Then i walked along the 37 route to Isleworth, filming as i went..... a hot day as i recall......
Ah, the 27 bus....I remember this. Long since gone as a route, it must have been scrapped about 30 years ago at least. Seems incredible now that you could go on a bus all the way to Archway in North London. Crazy! But then this was long before the advent of London Overground. Richmond looks like how I remember it as a kid - busy and bustling. Now it's relatively quiet - even during the day. Lots of shops have closed for good..... including the House of Fraser department store in George Street (formerly Dickins & Jones). Richmond isn't the good place to go shopping that it once was. I would say the town (shopping wise at least) is a shadow of its former self. Still.at least it has the green, the hill, and the riverside which was redesigned a couple of years after this video was shot. Oh, and anyone remember the 'Victorian evening' that Richmond would hold on the first Friday in December? ....this too went....along time ago. They should bring it back as it did alot for the town in terms of generating extra money, and bringing in tourists outside the peak season. But despite all these changes, Richmond is still.a special place. And a retreat from hectic central London.
The 27 still runs but is cut back to Hammersmith. It used to run out to Teddington at certain times, possibly on Sundays. Some local routes wouldn't run on a Sunday, and the main trunk route wouldn't suffer many, if any, traffic delays on a Sunday as the world was closed on this day back then......
I knew there had to be a National somewhere in Hounslow depot 7:59. 5:57 a DAF truck with modernised Leyland 0680 power. You can't tell by listening though. Only when they idle you can hear it. I'm glad the shiela falling over on her a®$£ didn't appear to get badly hurt.
Yes, she tried to play tug-of-war with the Routemaster..... the Routemaster won!..... She was lucky not to fall over anyway as she jumped off backwards (you jump in direction of travel) but she didn't let go of the pole!
Thanks Soi for having the foresight to record these great buses.
My pleasure..... i just used to chase around catching Routemasters before they were all withdrawn & scrapped......

This video is excellent! I love that you even got the Odeon in the background. I couldn’t work out the films show though.

She didn't let go of the platform pole...... you can't win a tug-of-war with a Routemaster!
London Bus
Nice video, but a lady takes a nasty tumble @2:27.
