    Visited The Lake District many times and my favourite place is Keswick, beautifully clean, has everything you need with great shops and pubs and just a few minutes walk to the scenic Derwent Water. Many great memories.

    I love the Lake District, it’s definitely my favourite in the UK. It’s a shame it’s a 5 hour drive. Would love to live there and wake up every morning in peace.

    You didn't own a raincoat?? If you lived here - like I do - you'd have several raincoats......plus thick jumpers, scarves and hats. We get Winter here in the Lakes, followed by 6 Months of bad weather.....But I still wouldn't want to live anywhere else. The famous Lakeland writer/illustrator and hill-walker - Alfred Wainwright - said there is no such thing as bad weather - only unsuitable clothing. I've never eaten Grasmere gingerbread personally. I'd go for Cartmel sticky toffee pudding...... I also commend you on getting the names of the various bodies of water correct. There is *no* such place as *Lake* Windermere! It is just called Windermere, the same as the town of the same name..... Good video! Certainly one of the better visitor videos I've watched.....

      I am from Dartmoor so I do have a raincoat at my childhood home! I've spent the past ten years living in Paris and then London so now use an umbrella most of the time! You're very lucky to live in The Lake District- it's a beautiful spot to call home :)

      @@SophieNadeau You may think it odd, but living here in the Lakes, I go elsewhere when I feel the need for scenery and relaxation. It's North Yorkshire for me... Ah yes Dartmoor. I stayed on a campsite near Princetown back in the early 80's...... Wast Water, pronounced Wost Water..... Glad you enjoyed your stay. There's a tighter bridge than Ashness bridge not far from me. It crosses a river, and you have to fold your door mirrors in to get your car over it.....

    Lovely video. Found it great how you showed quite a variety of activities and gave a brief explanation / short history on the places. You seemed to have missed the sunshine on this trip, though!
    We are looking to visit from London so good to know the switch from train to car can happen in Kendal.

    • @Brian-om2hh
      @Brian-om2hh 7 месяцев назад

      You can either get off the train at Oxenholme, then get a taxi to Kendal, where you can hire a car. Or you can change trains in Oxenholme, to get the small commuter train to Windermere, which stops at Kendal station. From memory, Enterprise car hire are in Kendal. As someone who has lived in the Lake District all their life, I would spend at least some of my visit in North Yorkshire - Bronte country. It takes less than an hour's drive from the Lakes. Skipton, Hawes, Richmond, all well worth a visit. Both Skipton and Richmond have castles.....with Richmond castle being particularly impressive. And if you *do* go to North Yorkshire, there's also Askrigg, near Hawes, where the original 70's series of All Creatures Great & Small was filmed, and Grassington, where the current series is filmed.....

    This takes me back - I grew up in Ambleside and I can confirm Rydal is the best lake. But the first cave is the best cave, you need a torch and you have to climb a bit to get to it but as I remember it’s the one with tunnel going into a chamber inside the hill

      Hello! Yes, we went in the summer (in the first week of July so we had some of the longest days of the year). I am sure that the autumn is also lovely though in a different way because you can enjoy cosy nights in the pub and all of the beautiful foliage :) I hope you have a wonderful Birthday in Cumbria- I am sure you will have a wonderful trip!

    Next time you come you need to get your hiking gear on and get of the beaten track and get up into the mountains. Thats the best way to see the lake district its quite simply breath taking.Surprise view is nice but its certainĺy not the best view lol.

      We stayed at Yewfield. They have self catered studios and then we rented a car to get around the rest of the region from there :) I really recommend staying in Ambleside or Hawkshead as it's pretty easy to travel around from there and there's lots of really nice food options close by!

    Got to be honest, Why oh Why would someone buy a stored version of a Cumbrian masterpiece, let alone actually eat it ? Sarah Nelsons creation should only EVER be purchased on the day it is baked, and then enjoyed asap or at least within 5 days, if you can't wait in line for the real thing then why opine on some imitation that frankly only a mug would buy ? complete and utter sacrilege. oh dear.
