Great video. Try a variety named "Glacier" outside in the winter season. Bred for Scandinavian cool summers.
Consistently one of if not the best gardening channel on youtube
Definitely the best. 100% homegrown gardening knowledge. No nonsense easily accessible approach. Cheers Mark from a 6+ year subscriber
We (in the UK) grow 'tumbling tom' tomatoes they produce small bushes ~30cm high and hang down with hundreds of marble sized sweet tomatoes on each plant.
Yes - a great choice! I have grown them also. Cheers :)
Doing tigerella tomatoes this year. As well as black cherry tomatoes, yellow ones and plum and a whole bunch more. Added them to the shed already, so they don’t get too cold.
Sounds comparable to the Tiny Tim and Orange Hat
So nice that you are showing methods and tips that can even be used by people in apartments!
The kids and I throw cherry tomato seeds around parks. They love it when we go back and find a few growing 😄
cool kids 🤙
Thankyou. They are good kids.
Other people must be wondering where the cherry tomatoes came from. 😂
If you're trying to stay organic, you might check that the parks maintenance folks don't use any chemicals on their lawns and such. I know a lot of places use some pretty weird chemicals. Sounds like fun!
What an awesome initiative.
seriously millions of kids would love a micro garden setup like this and learn how simple growing food really is, and no toxic chems. 10/10 Mark
I never did agriculture in school but since I have watched your videos I now know agriculture.
That's awesome! Are you currently growing anything yourself?
Even the cat loves the mini tomatoes 🍅😻 haha so cute !
The electric Toothbrush tip. Thank you for that , I was wondering why my indoor strawberry's were flowering but not producing any fruit. This might help. ty.
Tell everyone. It's crazy to me how many people don't know about it.
What's the difference between the buzzing vs using a q-tip to touch/transfer pollen flower to flower?
@@car5on777 flower to flower implies the plant puts off both male and female flowers seperatly. Requires you to take pollen from the male flower and put it on the female flower. Plants like tomatoes and peppers produce both female and male parts in one flower. The toothbrush vibration knocks the pollen off and it falls onto the female portion within that flower. Hope that's understandable.
@@jayzenyuhman9095 Thanks for your response. Super helpful! 😊
I grow Tiny Tim tomatoes in every patio planter I have!
love the tiny tim i've grown them for years planters on patio and as a comical edging plant along a garden path one year a compact short nice tight foliage and one of the best flavored dwarf tomatoes i have ever grown almost too sweet at times
Here in Texas, we've had a number of droughts that make growing outdoors a risky proposition. Growing tomatoes indoors with this method has enchanted my imagination, I will want to get started on this and avoid the hazards of outdoors with the consistency of the indoors. Thank you so much!
WOW! Thank you Mark!
You've quickly become onf of my absolute favourite you'tubers' ;)
Thank you so much for your wisdom, your generous sharing of knowledge and your humor!
Lots of love from Switzerland!
Wow, thank you! 👍🙂
I love your beautiful kitty 😊. Great video thank you for sharing!
I have had my vegepod kitchen garden since they were first released. I actually have the black model. I have used mine for raising seeds up then I plant them on outside when they were ready. I have had beautiful herbs and lettuce growing. I love all my vegepods 2 large, 1 medium, 1 small and the kitchen garden. Well done Mark for promoting a great product and company.
G'day Gina, thanks for letting me know your positive experience with your kitchen garden Vegepod. They're a good Australian coy 👍🙂
Does your kitty enjoy those lovely tomatoes too! 😂❤
Thank you for what you're doing to share these experiences and information with others
Ive been using Aerogarden for 3 years now and only had one problem with a water pump. otherwise they are fricken awesome. I have tomatoes all year long and salad too. it grows very very fast compared to outside and to be honest, growing tomatoes with snow on the ground outside is a bit of a luxury. Love the video :)
Me too!
We have several Aerogardens. Growing mini cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce, herbs, peppers, etc. all year long is so much fun!
I like micro tomatoes for vertical planters like the GreenStalk even though they can handle bigger plants. I'm growing Magic Hat and they are so little and cute! They stay a lot more tidy than bigger tomato plants, which is helpful for vertical planters.
I grew tomatoes in my kitchen window from shop tomatoes' seeds and they made tomatoes. Wasn't expecting much but they were fantastic. It was cold and north facing but they didn't care. No special equipment just a small pot and compost and a trickle of water when i washed out my glass. Any cool window is great for growing hot weather plants.
Indoors is very dry so many plants suffer from that the most. Just give it a go. Fruit and veg are usually free to experiment with and fun plants!
I've grown plum tomatoes from the grocery store and to my delight, I have a bounty crop that keeps on producing.😊This is on my balcony.
Wow I have never heard of micro tomatoes. Thanks!
What a nifty indoor growing system! I never realized there was such a thing as micro tomatoes. I am going to be on the hunt for some!🍅
Pinocchio Orange are a similar micro dwarf type that grow about 8 inches more or less.
@@baneverything5580 Thank you very much for the name!
Easy for me to remember, lol!
@@rachalnocchi5600 I got some growing that are blooming. You can root cuttings and save the seeds for more. The seeds cost me about one dollar each on the big site that begins with the letter "A." A frost got most so these two are all I have.
Looks good Mark. I've been thinking about getting something like that.
I’ve got 4 orange hat micro growing in my south facing window. Three have bunches of little green tomatoes and they’re only about 8 inches tall. Fun experiment over the cold winter too!
Even in the desert 🏜️ the living organisms can help us grow if we understand them.
My favorite fruit, the date, comes from the desert. The palm loves river water, but would suffer in too much humidity.
Thanks so much for this great idea, and even showing us how to pollinate the plants! Sharing this with my daughter in Alaska! She has such a difficult time growing tomatoes there, this may be a game changer!
Love that table top garden, and buzzing your tomatoes, pretty funny but brilliant! 💚
Quality content, as always.
Love the cat ❤
I’ve followed forever. Awesome!
Thanks for supporting my channel for so long! Cheers :)
I have two Pinocchio Orange growing inside now in a tabletop hydro garden that are blooming.
I just love orange tomatoes, they have the sweetest flavor.
@@chezmoi42 Orange/yellow tomato types have the highest amount of bio-available lycopene (sp?) in their raw form.
@@baneverything5580 Oh, thanks, I didn't know that!
What perfect timing! I just saw my first few tomatoes on my own kitchen garden and was about to start my next!
Looks like a similar self-watering system to the larger Earthbox planters I've used outdoors for years with great results for tomatoes. Something like this looks great for when it's too hot to grow tomatoes or other crops like lettuce, arugula, etc. outdoors.
Never got to see how the kitchen remake looked. 😊
I'm still working on that video. I want to hold a lunch for the contractors and do a bit of filming, but we need to find a time when all can attend. I think this will complete the vid, and once I get that done, I will release the video and show our kitchen renos. Thanks for the interest! Cheers :)
This is such a great idea!!!! Can’t wait to watch!!! ❤❤❤
How cute are they?! Incredibly.

Good on ya Mandy! Thank you :)
My coworkers and I have been growing a dwarf variety in an office space with a grow light and only 5 liters of soil and it's over a year old at this point. It's always loaded with fruit and we saved enough (frozen) to make a quart of salsa late last year.
That's cool! Cheers :)
I'm so glad you made a video on micro tomato plants! I discovered them just a couple years ago and they are a BLAST to grow! Many of the cultivars are excellent producers for their size too, especially if grown hydroponically. Can't believe they're not more popular among gardeners. I would love to see more videos on micro tomato plants, Mark! 🍅🍅🍅
Thanks for the tip on the grow container, it looks like such a great item.
Moved last year and now have a random tomato plant growing by the side of house, its been producing well and we're enjoying its fruits- I think people underestimate how good home grown produce is! Love the Kitty- was that Scooter in one of the background shots?? (Sorry if it wasn't, Scooter was so adorable, rest in peace
Yes, that was good old Scooter... Still making it into our vids! All the best :)
You seem to have a great life. Well done!!
great tip with the toothbrush for growing tomatoes indoors
I have the same Vegepod. I'm using it for year round lettuce now, but I would say a word of warning to potential purchasers. Because they are soil filled as opposed to the more common hydroponic kitchen planters, be prepared for some trial and error and failures. They aren't necessarily easy to get the hang of!. I was surprised it came with the sticky fungus gnat traps - until I had infestation after infestation which was only finally fixed by Gnat Barrier from Bunnings (a fine pebble). Getting the watering right can take some practice and you have to be diligent in getting out dead leaves or bits of the plants can rot. And finally, they are expensive, although very well made, and if you are getting one weigh up the cost plus the electricity against how much you are going to grow in it over time.
Yeah i would get one of these for 200 bucks max, seeing they were 350 on the site is a bit silly. You can get a gigantic birdies bed for that price
All good points! Thanks for sharing your experience. Cheers :)
Thank you Mark and thank you all for sharing 🙏🏼
One of my favorite channels. Thanks for this video!
Micro tomatoes great ! Thanks for the video Mark. I'd love to grow these little gems 😊
In the USA we use hydroponics. AeroGrow.....been using these for over 2 decades. Grow tomatoes, peppers, flowers, herbs. Almost no limit ... depending on the unit you buy. Different sizes for bigger crops.
We have that here ( in Aus) but i have been reluctant to buy as it's expensive. Are you happy with it?
They are definitely expensive (all of these systems are) but if you have Facebook marketplace, it's not too hard to find used ones.
They are probably the best hyprophonic systems in the market. Definitely well made and should last years. Also a lot of the compare detachable so easier to replace if something breaks. I have one, but don't use it as much since I have more space for pots now.
A lot of channels make indoor gardening seem so daunting, but your videos are much more approachable. I definitely want to try this now!
You are amazing Mark, amazing and much appreciated. Thank you for sharing 😁🙏🏼
Thank you for doing a vid on this. I think a lot of folks will find this very helpful.
Wow, this is fantastic! Such a great idea for those with limited outdoor growing space. 👍
The window-box tomatoes and the device are so adorable!
Amazing and inspirational! Marc you are the genius gardener! God Bless!!!
Window box yellow, nice. I grew them this year as well, was super happy with them. I’ve saved seeds, so hopefully I can grow them again next year.
Cute kitty! Love your gardening advice.
YUM, is right! Love yellow tomatoes. Great video, thanks for sharing!
I have a variety of dwarf tomato that I grow every year from saved seed. I grow them in 2 gallon pots and that allows me to easily move them inside for frosts. It's nice to be able to pick some fresh tomatoes in the dead of winter.
Love your content Mark!! I’ve been off work sick with some bad bronchopneumonia the passed few days and have been watching all of your videos! Your videos are so educational with a great sense of humour as well!! Keep it up my friend!!
I'm growing three this year, it's a fun houseplant for kids too.
Hello and greetings from Belgium. Great tips and you explain everything very well!!!
OMG I didn't even know these existed and I immediately ordered a number of bags.
My grow light in the house will soon be completely free when I put everything in the garden, so this is where the mini tomato plants will go. They are sooooo cute lol
I’ve used the electric toothbrush method for years in my greenhouse and every year every one sets 👍excellent as always Mark 👍🇦🇺🇬🇧
I currently have a yellow canary micro tomato growing on my kitchen counter! In hydroponics. Planted it March 3rd, saw the first tiny tomatos pop up this morning!😊
I love this idea!
Thanks Mark. This was cool. I’ll have to keep my eyes open for mini yellow window box tomatoes.
Love to know what else you are about to sow/plant.
That's an awesome set-up. That's a lot of tomatoes for such a small plant. My kitchen is very small. I don't really have the room for something like that. But if I did I certainly would like to try one. Keep us posted on those cute little plants. Thanks for sharing
How about your other rooms? Any window will serve! Plants grow well in a bathroom, with the humidity.
@@chezmoi42 Thanks for the suggestions, but I have a 900 square foot garden outside in Florida so I don't need to put something like that in other rooms. I can garden year round here and have a full garden right now. Happy gardening.🍓🌸🌻🐞🦋🐛🐝🍊🍍🍅🌶️🥕🧅🥦🥒🫑🧄🥔
@@shirleyk623 Oh, that's good news! I was picturing someone in a downtown apartment in New England, with not even a balcony to plant. Enjoy your garden, and take care in the upcoming hurricane season.
Ive been growing the Orange Hat Micro tomato for some time now.......i love the micro plants......thay even have micro cucumbers as well and mini bell peppers
Thanks Mark. Nice beautiful tomatoes. Never thought about giving them a buzzzzzzzzz, G'day from Texas.
1. Your cat is ADORABLE.
2. Thank you for the recommendations! I love growing micro dwarfs.
3. Last year I grew micro dwarf tomatoes and parsley indoors, and the fungus gnats were INSANE. This year I am being far more dedicated to trying to keep them away. I will probably grow a few micro dwarfs (ok, maybe more than a few) again. I would welcome any other advice you have to keep the dang gnats away! Even with a fan and bottom watering, they still took over.
GREAT video!!!
Have you tried some gnat barrier granules? I have some in the shed that were given to me by a Brand, but I never needed to use them-apparently, they work. All the best :)
Superb system ❤
I have the large outdoor vegpod , love it, Ive got lettuce , kale , beetroot, spring onions, perpetual spinach and strawberry spinach , mini cabbage and cauliflower and will shortly plant some garlic. Everything looks lucious. I think I will have to save up for a kitchen pod now .
Just love watching you always great ideas and information 😊
Perfect smile ❤
Great harvest off such little plants well done👍🏻
I am keen for the mentioned video with your homemade olla.
Thanks Mark.
Love your beautiful kitty!
I've got one of these kitchen gardens - I'd love if you did some more content about them.
Bumper crop of 12 tomatoes
I have actually tried this out this season too but in a table top hydroponic set-up. I can't believe how prolific they have been just by themselves (my set-up has a fan built into the light so I haven't had to hand pollinate)! You're right they are very tasty as well. I am planning on making my own little hydro set-up to do a second batch to see if I can keep some through winter down here in VIC.
Aw the pup got a big dog cut, so cute.
it looks nice uncle. great work of you
What a great idea looks good
😎👍
Iv tried this and it works
Microdwarf tomatoes are a blast to grow indoors in the cold season ZZ.
They're so cool 😮
Very honest about your gains. God bless
Hey Mark keep up the good work 🎉
I want one of those! I just started my own vegetable garden channel.
Good tip- thank you! 😁👍
That’s cool, they look nice, for only a small simple LED, lucky harvest👍, 🍅🍅🍅
good to see you, nice system, I have thought about hydroponics counter system
Very interesting - thank you very much from South Africa
I'd love one of those but my place is way too small for anything that size, anywhere. It'll have to wait till end of May😊
thank you😀
We don't have space in the kitchen, but we have an awesome window in the mudroom! Might look into making a shelf there for a vegepod unit (we have an outdoor vegepod I use for sorrel, rocket and other leafy greens, grew some excellent silverbeet in it last year!)
Hooroo from Tasmania!
I need me one of those!
i grow in these earthboxes, the bottom watering has made watering so much easier for me and i do not overwater my plants anymore. best growth ive ever had. roots go down into the bottom and plants take water when they need.
You are amazing man
I use a different type of sub-irrigated planter system (sips)in my grow tent. When you only water the reservoir, you can't overwater. The plants will wick up water as needed. If you do find that your reservoir sits and starts to get funky, just add 1 ounce of em-1 solution per gallon of water. The microbes keep the reservoir biologically active and prevent unwanted bacteria.
Also, by only watering the reservoir, the roots will seek out the water and grow into the reservoir. Once the roots reach the water, the plants get the benefit of hydroponic growth with the added advantage of using soil for nutrients as nature intended.
Sips are my go-to planter now. I love using them and they produce incredible plants with minimal work.
I really liked this video mate, tomatoes are a big favourite of mine and undoubtedly many other people.
I think I'll be chatting with the local nursery about micro tomatoe varieties and have a good look at the link for the planter aswell.
Have a ripper Mark!
Thanks mate and all the best sourcing some from your local! Cheers :)
Love your videos
Good day Mark!
I grew Orange hat tomatoes last year. They're great, and they're only a foot high. By the way,you have a precious kitty cat. Maybe she likes the smell of the plants!☺
