    The 1st person Go Pro shots are really helpful for your videos. It's amazing how many DIY videos are out there that have the host explaining the steps, but not showing it with clear camera shots.

      +Casey Burnett Thank you! Its really hard getting all the shots, narrating each step and putting it all together. Super time consuming and you just hope you didn't miss a step or delete some footage. I appreciate the encouragement and to know someone recognizes it as value added makes it worth while for me. Thank you for watching!

    It's funny that I've watched this job done anywhere from absolute insanity-inducing to your example which went pretty smoothly... Apparently the rust can make a huge difference. My gf's got an 06 and I can tell many bearings will need done on it by this March. I'd say both fronts and probably at least one rear but maybe both of them. Not a lot of wobble, if any, but definitely noisy. Your video was really clear... Unfortunately I probably won't be tackling the rear ones on my own, and will have to pay for it, but the fronts, I'm going to attempt those myself. Great video man.

    • @ThecardoctorTV

    I think on the lower end presses if the space between the Horizontal I-Beams for the work support isn't wide enough between the beams to allow the hub to pass by and drop between, you'll have to find a deeper hat rotor or use higher wider steel pieces or strong wood blocks to put on each side of the rotor.

    hi I've got a question for you. I have a 1990 Chevy k1500 that I am going to replace the power steering gearbox on do you know if the remanufatured gear boxes are already lined up in the straight forward position? or do you have to line them up yourself? and what I am saying is if I have my wheels set straight and steering wheel should the shafts on the new gearbox be lined up that way too? and if I have to line the new one up how do I find the center line? any help here would be greatly appreciated?

    • @ThecardoctorTV
      @ThecardoctorTV  8 лет назад +1

      The only way to know for sure is to rotate the input shaft on the replacement box and count the turns. Then divide in half and turn back that many times. If the truck has airbags then be sure to have the wheel centered before removing the old box and bungee cord the steering wheel so it won't move.

    I've got a question. Will a 20 ton press be enough to press the hub and bearing out? Also, will the same press be enough for the task of installing the new hub and bearing??

    • @ThecardoctorTV

      Should work great for both. That's what I have.

    • @1fnjo790
      @1fnjo790 6 лет назад

      Believe it or not some times they won't budge with a 20 ton press. Heard After you get the hub and snap ring off sometimes a large sledge hammer can break the freeze before starting to using the press and might save you having to resort to torch heating or cutting.

  • @anarchistangler
    @anarchistangler 2 года назад

    I did it on a 2008 yesterday. No way that parking brake cable pulls out like that on that baby. You can compress the spring with a zip tie, which makes life easy. .

    • @ThecardoctorTV
      @ThecardoctorTV  2 года назад

      Not sure what youre saying.

    • @anarchistangler
      @anarchistangler 2 года назад +1

      @@ThecardoctorTV the one I did is a bit different to the one you were working on. You can't just pull it out like the one you're doing there. It was the hardest part of the job for me.
      But for the next person, it is easy to deal with on that model by using a cable tie to just compress the spring. Then you can unclip it at the end and remove it easily. When it comes to installing the levers later, that part is easy too. Snip it when you are done.

    what if the torque is not done at the exact amount? what will it do?

    • @ThecardoctorTV
      @ThecardoctorTV  8 лет назад

      +amanda heese If it's too loose then the bearing can become loose and the tire flop around. Too tight and it can cause premature failure of the bearing. There are a few automotive fasteners you can get away with winging it but these aren't ones you should try to do that with. Important for safety. Thanks for checking. Hope to see you again here soon.

      +The Car Doctor, so is it possible to use a torque wrench that only goes to 140 to accurately torque to 200+ ? sorry such uneducated questions. Just trying to get an idea if mine was done right, I'm worried it was not. Thank you for taking the time to respond.

    • @ThecardoctorTV
      @ThecardoctorTV  8 лет назад

      Well of course it's not going to be completely accurate but if it's all you had access to its certainly better than not using one at all. You develop a feel for proper torque and I bet I could get pretty close without a torque meter but in this case I'm not sure that's a good idea just guessing. Swing by a shop with the proper tools or use one from a parts store that loans them out and get it torqued right. That way you can sleep at night and be rested enough to watch more Car Doctor videos without nodding off.

    whats the trick to installing the parking brake lever???

    • @ThecardoctorTV
      @ThecardoctorTV  8 лет назад

      +Michael Habschmidt If your asking how to install the cable back onto the lever its a pain. I use a pair of pliers to hold the end of the cable then a pair of cutters to pinch down on the cable above the housing after I pull back the spring and then slip it over the lever when compressed. Its a real PITA but youll get it. Let me know if that's not what you were asking. Good luck!
