Thanks Olivio for this tip I didn't know. Amazingly usefull for dramatic B&W landscape and not oly for the sky... Any Ansel Adam's fan should know it. Thanks !
Great tutorial as usual. Just a small note that "God Rays" are only seen in the distance, so to make your photo more realistic they need to hit the ground somewhere between your foreground and background. In this picture they should end at the upper edge of the yellow/tan foreground, but they would be visible in front of the mountains.
Are you sure about that? I kind of think that god rays fall in any distance and location if the requirements are met. Are the rays you can see in forest some meters away not called god rays?
md11hud The effect you are creating is of a crepuscular sky with incoming sunlight broken by intervening cloud formations particularly early or late in the day and generally appearing distant. The diffusion effect in a forest though similar, is not however crepuscular. It is good practise to photograph interesting skies when seen so as to have a catalogue of images to blend with other pictures with bland skies. Easier than the technique shown but congratulations for the skill demonstrated.
Wieder einmal ein Top-Tutorial und irgendwie schaffst Du es auffällig oft, genau Themen zu behandeln, die bei mir gerade aktuell sind. Zwei Fragen dazu: 1. Dodge & BUrn hätte es doch auch getan - was genau it der größte Vorteil dieser Methode? 2.
i don't know if its the new version of affinity but im finding when i try use the live filter gaussian blur its not keeping the blend range and the rectangle shows as a solid color
I can't recreate what you're doing when I go step by step. I wonder if my defaults are set differently. I open the image, apply the levels adjustment, open a rectangle and fit fill to black and then do the levels adjustment. No problem. When I select the rectangle layer and apply the live filter to gaussian blur, the gaussian blur goes to the top of the layers panel instead of nesting in the rectangle layer like you have. If I pull the gaussian filter down below or down below to the right of the rectangle layer, I still cannot gaussian blur just the black rectangle. I end up either blurring the entire image or the image in the rectangle but not the black overlay. For whatever reason, no matter what layer I have selected, if I apply a mask or adjustment layer, it always goes to the top of my layers panel. Is there a default box I need to adjust or something? Thanks Olivio, I love your videos!
Auch diesmal vielen Dank für das TUT. Werde die Lektion auch üben. Resultate dann auf RedDit. Ab Heute auch ein Patreon. Ich kann den Aufwand nachvollziehen. Also Followers -> Patreon werden.
Is there any difference between fill layer made by Rectangle tool and a new fill layer created through the menu at the top (i.e. Layer > Fill layer)? When creating fill layer from the menu, In some projects it worked, but in most scenarios it doesn't give me the same result as yours. And, I really really love your tutorials I watch them everyday. The most favourite video of yours is Neon ones, I've been watching it so many times haha. Create more neon tutorials, that would be super cool.
Hi Abdiel, i guess the biggest difference is that the Fill Layer is not a Rectangle, so you can't move it around afterwards. But to be honest, i haven't really used fill layers so far. Thank you for linking my videos. I will try to make a new neon video soon :)
Very nice! Lol. I did notice you say, "Creative cloud" referring to a group of creatives. This, to me, inadvertently pays homage to Adobe when this is an Affinity project. Subtleties. 🙃 And when making the God rays, is it wholly necessary to use a mask of a white rectangle when a pixel layer and a white paint brush will do instead? The layer can still be modified and adjusted as usual. 👍🏼
Thank you, David. I am actually saying "Creative Crowd", i guess i need to work on my pronunciation. ;) Hm.. you could certainly try a white brush. I think the main reason i used the white box is that i set a gradient in the end - that i did forget to include in this tutorial. But ti also works without. :)
You, sir, create some fabulous tutorials. As I've said before, I learn more about Affinity from you than most. Thanks so much, Olivio!
Eines der besten Videos dazu. Dankeschön Olivio.
Danke Andre, freut mich sehr das es dir so gefallen hat :)

Thank you, Photo World. Have fun making your skies dramatic :)

Great techniques, Olivio! I sometimes use a Clarity set to multiply and this works pretty well with clouds as well.
New Subscriber! My great grandmother was from Austria! You have soooooo much great content! Thanks a bunch.
Thank you so much for this.
Vielen dank Olivio for this very interesting video. I hope other nature / landscape videos will follow.
Thank you, Patrick. Yes, i will do a lot more on nature and landscapes in the future :)
Landscape & your generale creative view is amazing refreshing
Thank you very much, Ralf :)

Excellent tutorial as always 👍
Thank you, Barry :)
What blend options? Another tool with illimitable variations. Olivio the teacher.

Hi clarkie, it's probably best you ask about that in the official forums, where they can give you pretty fast help with that forum.affinity.serif.com/
@@OlivioSarikas thank you I shall ask on there 👍🏻

Nice tutorial. I use a gradient instead of a rectangle, any thoughts on the advantage of one versus the other?
hi Tom, you can move a rectangle around and define it's precise size, shape and location. that can be very beneficial :)
you're from vienna? would have never guessad that. I'd love to move there.
