Someday I will take one out for a spin. Right now I am doing shake down runs on my very late 2006 Mini Cooper S R53 I purchased out of Seattle in October 2020. No rust. Slick-top, six speed manual, Astro Black, with just under 42,000 miles. I did all maintenance, ALL of it, by watching Mod Mini on RUclips. Upgraded suspension with poly bushings and new brakes with Cryo treated discs. Love these cars.
Hi MM which GP do you prefer - the GP1 or GP2? I like the supercharged cars, but the extensive aero work on the GP2 is hard to ignore - complex sealed under tray, flat floors linked to functional diffuser etc! A lot of aero work went into the GP2 - can you feel the stability and greater corner grip in the GP2? I've alway wondered how much of a difference it makes. Thanks for all your videos!
Nice collection of GP's. :) Since 2013 i own a GP1(2006), i'am the second owner and it has driven over 200000KM. The GP is my first Mini and later my wife and i bought a F56 and a R58 too. We regurlary visit the Nürburgring, overthere you can see often one or more GP1 an 2's. At home in the Netherlands i don't often see a GP. When i see one then it is the one from a the owner of a little garage/workshop 10km from my house. There are only 20 GP1's delivered new from MINI Holland, mine is one of them.
My father in law has gp 1, 2 and 3 all with the same model number 1528. Just took the gp2 for a track day but the turbo lag is noticeable when switching between the r53 and r56 however this one has lots more torque. The gp3 is an animal in its own league. Nice collection you got there
Good to see a new video! I hope you are able to get some track days in this year. I bought an 03 R50 in January and have been relying on your videos to get me through the work on it. So far I haven't taken it to a mechanic, and I've done the radiator fan, alternator, crank position sensor O-ring, CV axles, oil filter housing (it had the OG and it's missing the tube that goes on the cap), timing chain tensioner, valve cover and spark plug gaskets, fuel pump and filter, and much more. Replacing the wheel hubs are next as I have a bearing that's bad. I also have bushings as it squeaks on the left when you hit bumps, and the strut defenders to purchase too. My big worry is the transmission. The Midland grinds and clicks in reverse and I'm worried that it will need replaced soon. I also think the engine and transmission mounts may need replaced as I have a lot of vibration at idle. The car has 188000 miles and it hasn't had much maintenance done to it. :(
Great Video!…Most GP’s I’ve seen in one place! Just picked up a GP2 to add to my growing collection of MINI’s I do like the GP2 but still really like the overall experience of driving my R53’s (I don’t track them)…maybe a GP1 is the answer !
Congratulations. Great car. My GP1 is going on sale on bring a trailer next month. Subscribe to new MINI Cooper postings to see it go live. (Getting a 1M and it has to go to help pay for the thing - but keeping the GP2 as long as I can afford to)
Just want to tell you that I enjoy your videos and if it wasn't for your uploads I wouldn't have changed my alternator on my 05 yellow mini cooper s convertible! Keep it up!
I would love to own a GP1 someday. I do have to say Kurt, I mean Mod Mini, I have an R53 that I bought with a bad throwout bearing and your clutch videos are absolutely stellar. I just got the trans off last night and I owe it all to you. Next I’m dropping in a Quaife LSD. You are an absolute Godsend and I can’t thank you enough for your videos!
I missed my opportunity to pick up a GP here in Seattle, tried to beg borrow and barter to get into it but wasn't meant to be.. started my love affair with an '06 base model (used) in great condition and was hooked after the second or third day driving it, now after saving and looking around casually for a year I bought a 2016 'S' THUNDER gray and she's everything I hoped for after having my first Mini which after driving for 4 years loved more and more... that one now belongs to my friend who became "infected" and bought her, so I still get to see her when he comes around and apart from vacuuming she still looks and drives like silk. Thank you for these videos they get me excited seeing others lovin on their Minis like I do. Next upgrade to JCW!
Hey mod mini, I have a super important question about a positive cable in the front of my r53, I have no idea where it goes, do you have a place where I can message and send you pics so you could maybe help me out!?
Mod mini. I seen on a review you made custom brackets to mount a snow blade on a john deer. Any chance i could get in touch with you for a picture? Just looking for insight.
All I did was weld the brackets that came with the plow onto a part that slides into the tractor front frame/ bumper check channel/about here on RUclips to try to discuss this
hi i have a question what might affect the sound of ur supercharger? mines i think went out a while ago.. cus it only sounds high pitched jus not normal and it still pulls really good though unfortunately when j got the car the supercharger was starting to give out and i didnt experience the diff but it still pulls really good jus the supercharger sounds odd.. what will happen if i keep driving the car like that?
Hey Mod Mini. I’ve found your video really useful while trying to fix a leaky transmission on my girlfriends mini. I have taken the trans mission out and have found that there is some sort of plug or cover that has spalled or cracked of the housing and behind is a long shaft that looks to bottom out. It is. 2006 soho, 5 spd. I’m wondering if it needs to be welded back on or JB weld? Not sure where to start.. how can I get in contact with you?
Mine was missing, only I'm very far from there I live in Europe .By the way, I already did the oil change, filters and brakes myself and yes there was a swarm of Minis Gp Cool video .....
They can likely bolt into place, but your pedal will travel a long way before brake engagement due to the difference in piston volume and a mismatch with the brake master cylinder. A Gp2 master cylinder will not fit on an r53 brake booster (and an r56 brake booster will not fit on an r53). A better balanced brake mod for an r53 would be the r56 JCW brake kit. Still will have a bit more pedal travel but less than with GP2 caliper, and will be firm once engaged.
No, but I just got a notification that the current owner is looking to sell. I don't have any contact other than the bringatrailer listing where it last sold. bringatrailer.com/listing/2013-mini-cooper-s-jcw-gp-20/
Anything is possible but I wouldn't recommend this unless you are a very resourceful person and understand vehicle electrical/electronic systems well. In most cases, you should just get rid of the car and buy the S.
I just got a R56 and watched your two part video which got me thinking about my first failed head gasket on a 2008 1.8 Toyota. I do not recall exactly it was something like 40 pounds and 90 degrees, but your video said twice 90 degrees, never heard of this, maybe I messed up. It looks like you would know, what is the procedure for each if you wouldn't mind? I only got it because it reminded me of a 70 MGB split bumper I had 45 years ago and the owner was going to make it into a Ford frame Chevy engine 4X4 out of it! For the second cheapest car I have ever bought I saved it to remain a sports car. It is amazing how much cluelessness one can be confronted with and it took ~four attempts to getting into the back seat, as the seat backs don't seem to move far enough forward, just to hunt for a inside release for the boot. Jumping without a battery worked and then I messed with the key area and everything came on and my first thought was it is probably trying to link up to the internet. I was just trying to get one window up a half inch and ended up learning how it raises up even further into the roof when closed, wow, it just had some water in the back floor board. Looks like a steep curve ahead, something to do during the long winters, at least I saved it from that bad man.

I'm dreaming of a GP1. Been doing so for years. My daily is a 2005 R53 JCW. I'm so happy to see a video from Mod MINI. Good to know he is doing fine.
2004 R53 JCW here----what a hoot they are!!!
i never even knew bout these until i saw the 2021 ... also im so glad ur back :)

I love my 06' mcs, and 07' r52 S as well.
They are rare here too, we're just crazy and buying them from all over the country :P

Do you still work other people’s Mini? I have a GP1.
Yes I do
Could you help me with understanding why my mini r53's battery would be overheating. I don't know exactly what to do to fix it
Check voltage while car is running. Might be overcharging? Not sure

I love the wheel styling on these GPs. Wish I could find some for just a regular R53
They are both on left side of engine. One is under intake tube near the main engine harness disconnect. Other is next to bonnet latch release.

JCW R50 ? Interesting

Is there a significant difference between an S and the GP? Is everything just nippier and tighter?
I'll make a video to share about the cars. Yes, basically a little quicker to go, a little quicker to stop, lighter and tighter
