  • We start with the fundamental definition of unbiased estimators, crucial for accurate statistical analysis. Learn how to define and calculate the bias of an estimator for a specific parameter. We provide proofs to demonstrate why
    the sample proportion is an unbiased estimator for the population proportion and why the sample variance (with n - 1 in the denominator) is an unbiased estimator for the population variance. Additionally, we explore a practical example of a biased estimator and show the algebraic manipulations required to convert it into an unbiased one. The concept of asymptotic unbiasedness is also introduced, broadening the scope of how estimators perform as sample sizes increase.
