Joe Jackson does make a great point about Michael not having a childhood. Growing up in city like Gary with all of it's crime and poverty, it would've been pretty easy for the Jackson kids to get in trouble. Everybody who says Joe is a bad father think about this: the reason why so many kids come up in the "system" is because they didn't have that discipline growing up. And of course, without Joe Jackson there is no Jackson 5, there is no Motown, there is no Off the Wall and NO THRILLER!
I think the debarge father took out what was being done to him (maybe in his own childhood) on his children and wife. He began to hate his wife becuz he got the butt end of being a "nigger lover". All those kids to provide for, him not being able to keep a job because he had a BLK wife and children. It's ALOT to that family. Joseph was a typical BLK father that demanded his children be great, nothing is wrong with that. The abuse and overworking them was extreme but the big picture is "the Jackson family" 👑🏆✨🫡
He still could have handled things differently. Michael said he'd make them rehearse with a belt in his hand, ready to tear them up if they missed a step. Im sure he still could have yielded the same results without causing psychological scars, which Michael did indeed have.
@@SuperGGLOL FR. Im so sick of people justifying this mans abuse. My father was strict with me and it made me a better man but he never beat me with a belt or anything like that.
that’s what i’m saying. i’m so grateful that Michael Jackson existed and he built a beautiful legacy, much of it i’m sure can be attributed to his upbringing, but the scars left on him were so obvious. i’m sure his dad took it overboard many times from what i’ve heard Michael say in interviews. one interviewer asked Michael to talk about the abuse and he looked so traumatized, almost began crying, and this is what 40 years later? people don’t understand the impact of these experiences on one’s body, brain, and psyche. life’s not perfect but we shouldn’t act like that’s okay or an admirable way to parent. especially the unnecessary toughness, not even allowing your kids to call you dad, and making them perform to perfection.
Nah we not bout to do that. Y'all not bout to shame Joseph name like that. I was a babies in the 80s and a growing kid in the 90s. I heard the stories and saw the j5 movie. I'm literally watching it right now... Joseph did all he could to make sure his family and children had a better life than what Gary indiana had to offer. Every last Jackson is famous, with generational wealth. The Jackson name carries heavy weight..it's basically a golden ticket in Hollywood...they are considered the BLK royal family of Hollywood. Michael is #2 to Jesus Christ in global popularity. It's not enough paper to write MJ accolades..but all of that is because of Joseph Jackson. He could have definitely handled things differently and he surely didn't have to be so hard to get those same results but it was all he knew how. It was hard for Joe to work 2/3 jobs in a Steele mill..9 kids in a 2 bedroom in the 1950/60s. Wwyd??? Think Wwyd with what Joe was up against? Nobody in 2024 would be sane in a 2 bedroom working 16 hrs with 9 kids and a young wife..and all of them need, want and gotta have different things all the time, everyday. It was hard enough being a black man in the 50/60s. I respect Joseph and Michael forgave him and made his peace with his father.
Joe Jackson wasn't the only man to do that. He loved his family. In spite of it all, he is Michael Jackson's father. I'm quite sure Michael wouldn't appreciate all the negative post about Jermaine, Joe and himself.
From MJ's own words- Moonwalk: "My father was real strict with us - real strict. … Dad would make me so mad and hurt that I’d try to get back at him and get beaten all the more. I’d take a shoe and throw it at him, or I’d just fight back, swinging my fists. That’s why I got it more than all my brothers combined. I would fight back and my father would kill me, just tear me up.”
@@orlandoyero7151 michael lied a lot... now i think he was abused, but embellished a little bit so he can play with other kids. Michael also said he had surgery in his book, but in post interviews denies any surgery.
My grandparents were from the South. Back then, many black ppl grew up poor, neglected and badly abused. My grandparents had awful stories, and Joe is from that era --- only about two generations out of slavery. When you come from that, you have strange ideas. Joe did the best he could, and in his later years, he's probably learned some things; however, we all must be responsible for our life decisions as adults and there is no one to blame for Michael's ultimate demise ... but Michael.
I can tell Joseph loved his kids, he was deeply misunderstood, I don't agree with all the ways he went about ensuring his kids' success but he got them where they needed to be. I think he mirrored what was done to him as a child because that was all he knew, he didn't know that doing the opposite (being loving) could be just as affective, a lot of ppl in those days didn't. But look at the way he lights up when the interviewer quotes what MIchael said about him. He has feelings too.
This interview completely changes my opinion of Joe Jackson. He loved Michael. He may have had a hard way of showing it, but there's no doubt he loved his son.
Say what you want about Joe Jackson. He took responsibility for ALL of his boys. None of them grew up to be deadbeat fathers or thugs. They are ALL good kids. Kinda makes you think about the old saying: "spare the rod, spoil the child" Joe and Katherine did the best they could. Like most parents back in the 60's and 70's, they raised their kids the only way they knew how.
Sometimes Bible scriptures can be so toxic. Joe did the best he could I give him that. Those are the only tools that he had so I give him grace. I do believe he wanted the best for his children, but two things can be true. At one time he could’ve did the best that he could he could’ve wanted the best for his children, but still doesn’t mean that, his actions did not affect his children or hurt his children such as Michael. You can obviously see mike to be older. He had a lot of trouble and his heart and his mind which stem from some of those things that happened to him as a child Bible scriptures as your mother or father or your days will be shortened, but the rest of that scripture says do not provoke your children, he may have felt that Michael childhood was great, but Michael did not want to be in a studio rehearsing. Michael wanted to play and be a normal kid to be honest. It was never his responsibility to be working in the studio at the wee hours of the morning to help support a family that he created, my thoughts that was his wife and his responsibility
i won't judge you Joe. I know raising 9 kids wasn't easy. But it feels good to know you raised kids that grew up upright and made good music. If Michael found the peace he badly needed in death, then may he rest well. As a fan it just hurts to know he's gone for good. But then again his legacy will definitely outlast the negative headlines of the press.
I can remember seeing Joe Jackson standing in he wings at the Ampitheater in Chicago back when they were the Jackson5! He was always with them and I adore that!
I feel him when he said he wants to remember Michael dancing on stage, and not how he ended up... that hit me in the heart. But he should have done more. They all should have done more. We all should have done more to help Michael. His life is such a heartbreaking tradegy... I will never get over it. We know you are now Resting in Peace Michael.
The part that annoys me is that Joe still doesn’t get it. I want to remember him him as dancing on stage not that my son was a good person or a good human being. That’s all he saw. Michael ass was an entertainer and that’s the part that hurt Michael he went through hell to be the biggest store in the world, and yes, everybody around him failed him because a lot of people were jealous of Michael and his success and they couldn’t deal with it his brother being envious Janet, trying to compete with him. It was a lot.
He beat his children exactly the way he explained the beatings during slavery. His kids were not misbehaving but just beaten up because he wanted perfection in performing and enforced it. He should have been jailed for child abuse. God knows what else he did to those kids..... Wouldn't be surprised if he swore them to secrecy never to tell a soul because even as adults you can still see the fear in their eyes at the mention of his name. Hopefully it's red blood that runs through his veins and not green.
They don't know Joseph smh. Let them try working 16 hrs 2/3 jobs...9 kids to feed and clothes ..those bills... a young wife and in a 2bed room?? Most men would have left. Most men would HAVE LEFT THEIR FAMILES with that much pressure today and would have started a new life nowhere to be found. So. Everything comes with a price. Everyone has to choose their lesser of two evils. Joe may have been hard, controlling and mean ..but his love language was giving his children crowns and generational wealth...a name that can open any door in this world. Ppl whoop their kids for bad grades...not doing chores..coming home late. Try being in Joseph shoes before ppl judge what they never experienced. Men and young boys need a man like Joseph around, it wouldn't be so many kids lost, in trouble or causing trouble... destroying their lives with gangs and drugs. Joseph gets my respect especially with Michael forgiving him.
Whatever we feel about Joe Jackson, did you see his face light up when the interviewer mentioned what Michael had said about father....(paraphrased)...'that talent is something that is God-given, but Joe taught them how to cultivate it.' Joe lit up, as any parent would if their child spoke that about them.
Jermaine better singer than Michael?? For real?? Funny how Michael made and sold all those records and Jermaine trailed behind with his solo career....
Michael was by far the better dancer and had generally better music and videos to compliment his career perfectly That’s what made him more successful than Jermaine I think Michael’s voice is more famous and iconic but since Joe trained them and was their boss maybe he’s right in thinking so I know this comment is old as shit but I just wanted to take some time out to let you know.
Wow his manners, voice , face expression, ... we can see all of that on Michael ,,, watching this man we know where that comes from .... great interview
totally agree. People don't realize that times were harder back then, which made the fathers themselves, harder. I think that MJ was just very sensitive....you don't hear any of the others complaining about abuse. Joe just did what he felt was right, and every parent isn't perfect. RIP MJ
aww I just loved joe´s face when the other guy said the quote "talent is something God gives to a performer, but my father taugh us how to cultivate it" (sorry if I said something wrong, I dont have a good english hehe) I loved that part cuz Joe really seems happy and proud that Michael said that!!
He truly was a genius. Unfortunately most people dont understand that. He overcame great odds in taking his entire family from nothing to what they became. God bless him.
Okay, Abuse aside, he broke my heart when he said I tried so hard to get to Michael, he knew he needed him in the final days. -13:30-- I am so glad that he FINALLY addressed Michael as his son..( not kop or greatest star in the world but his son )
As a kid of the 1970's I got whipped as a child because my mother LOVED me. Although I didnt get many whippings, the ones I did get, I deserved!! I THANK her for this! But she DID NOT abuse me! That's what's wrong with these little spoiled bastards today! Not enough good whippings are being handed out. Disagree with me all you want. This is my personal opinion. I mean no disrespect to Michael or anyone else. This is how I was raised and I'm a responsible, law abiding adult today for it.
I just feel that no one has the right to speak bad about Michael's family. Even if Mike chose to do so at times, that's his family and his business. I can say something out of anger or spite about my family if I want to....but I'll be damn if someone else does it! You can be a fan of Michael's w/o having negative things to say about his family, cuz at the end of the day...YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT. PERIOD.
I am sure you are either white or just silly! Joe jackson was a wonderful father! That man should be congratulated for raising 9 kids and none went to jail, none was out robbing stores or shooting anyone, Joe Jackson should be a role model for every black father. He is my hero. We need more strong black fathers like him today!
Speaking as a father, with one son, i'm listening very carefully to what he is saying as far as raising his kids. The media has people believing one thing, but the proof is in the pudding. Joe Jackson raised nine kids, who all turned out well. None of them criminals and one of them was Michael Jackson. Mike may complain, but without his dad, he wouldn't have been The Michael Jackson. Boys need to be raised by a man, just for the physical aspect. Moms can't sustain a boy's inevitable strength for long. One of my buddies on facebook told me when I was a kid, I'd tell my mother 'hit me, it doesn't hurt, while he ran.' I never knew I said that to my mother as a child, but I had a stepfather who matched me muscle for muscle. Joe was a good father and had an impeccable eye for talent...Michael was just the whiny kid, never mentioning or making people notice how important a role his father playing in his life. That was the only part I didn't like about him. He did sing a song called 'To Make My Father Proud.'
There is a speech Michael gave @Oxford University, where he expressed his Love for his Father..and he forgave him.and he also expressed how much of a genius he was..so look that up..Michael was Human and a child and probably didn't understand the tough love thing,,but he did get it..
Lizzie Allen Wow you are very strong opinionated about Mr.Jackson..which you probably have the right to be..nobody wants tolerate the disclipline of children.I grew up also getting spankings..It made me resent my Dad as well..found him to be mean and insensitive..but my scenario was different to Michael's and his Brothers..but the way you just put that sounds not only harsh, but True.I hope we can be that astute with our own lives. In the end Michael became a major force in music. He probably wanted to be Loved so much,he dedicated himself to become one of the Greatest Entertainer's in the World. The others definately been affected, but alot alos forgave Joe..they understood his goal..but then again I know there is alot of personal struggle they all have with Joe..Michael was the most vocal..May his Soul Rest In Peace. I miss his physical presence in the world.
that's a little harsh don't you think. okay yes Michael was a bit whiner and yes he still whined about not having a childhood and all the abuse her suffered by his father's hand. yes he whines a lot but some children just do not respond well to that time of love or discipline if you want to call it. What Joe did wrong was not allowing those children to love him the way a child is suppose to love his or her father and that was a huge sacrifice. Joesph doesn't know how to express love; maybe his parents never loved him. but do keep in mind that Michael did say that he forgives his father and he also credited him for his success.
Afiong Bassey with no Joe Jackson, no Thriller. with some kids, strong discipline is necessary. Spare the rod, spoil the child. And I'm sure in those times, discipline was much harsher than today's time. Had Michael not let us into his private world, I would have no complaints because his music was flawless. The only thing I may have not liked about him was how much he harped on how mean his dad was. But his personality is not that much of a tough guy. He seems more soft spoken like his mom, well to us he seems that way, cause I heard some phone calls and he didn't sound all "Heal The World-y" lol
dejuanptv I think alot of how Michael portrayed his Father was probably from his own perspective..because the rest of his siblings don't think so bad about Joe..Janet doe s though..she has expressed in interviews on how she's not so close to him.Did you see how touched Joe was about his son's passing..Michael at the latter part of his life was forgiving of his Dad. Listen to his Oxford Speech from 2001 ..he brings Joe in an ineresting positive Light..which I felt was well deserving.
Great interview. Joe was just like my dad. Hard, stern, loving but didnt show it. But u grew up on the straight and narrow. Joe's and my dad's generation were like that. Is he perfect? No. But raising 9 kids in gary, indiana, most of them boys and none of them in jail, gangs etc..My hats off to him.
Yep. Reminds me of my old man too! Put us down a straight path and now we’re all good. Never been in jail, all great parents to our kids, and it’s all because of our dad. (And mom of course too)
@@ryanrodriguez3736 You have a very, very twisted understanding of what love is if your father was anything like this narcissistic piece of shit. Stop excusing and justifying abuse that poisoned an entire family.
this man *made* Michael and he clearly *loved his son fiercely*. I have the utter most respect for him and I am sure that Michael would have been *alive and well* if Joe was around. with a father like Joe, you could beat anything and anyone. Joe Jackson is a shrewd and powerful man. thank you
I think MJ was essentially a kid in his soul, he was way too sensitive from the start, but complaining about his childhood was a nice way to continue being childish, so he used that, covering his 'immaturity' in many ways and aspects of human life. Even if Joe didn't exercise strict discipline, MJ would have grown into a young man with the same traits of character, if maybe a little less accentuated. He looks like a very happy kid on his childhood pics. And some sad ones just show that he was a very serious and mature child, a little grown-up, I don't think it has anything to do with the beatings. He was just lost in his own world.
I love this interview. Bless his heart, it's a shame how the media has framed the Jackson family story and legacy in such a way that it distorts the truth. People will believe TMZ and the likes over actual family testimony. Shame. I would love to hear more from Joe Jackson he did a fantastic job. The Jackson 5 are forever engraved in my heart!
if most men in this country was half the man papa joe was, this country would have less kids dropping out of school, less teenage pregantcies, less crime, less kids telling their parents to kiss their asses. we need more men like papa joe! if i had a man like papa joe, i would have some kids!
Joe does have a good point too. he didnt want his kids running around with other kids and learning bad habits and bad things from them. He made sure they all had a good head on their shoulders and played with eachother. but then he shouldnt have beaten them so badly.. MJ is soo cute i love him!
people always say joe doesn't care that michael died, he didn't even seem sad at all. in my opinion, joseph just does not know how to handle his feelings. he showed his love by making sure his boys would make it in the world. just watch starting at 3:23- he is fighting back tears! i don't necessarily agree with his methods, but i understand that's what he knew.
not to defend him in anyway but sometime celebrities or people who are related to celebrites dont know when someone is trying to be nice and say hello like you did. Especially since he's the father of the famous kids that he has. And plus we all have our bad moments
Thank you, Michael even mentioned forgiveness in his speech at a children's day celebration in 2001 or 02. He stted that he did not want his children to harbor ill feeling towards him b/c of something he did that he thought was for their well being. He talk about where and the time period his father grew up and how this made him have a tough exterior. I truly believe if Michael knew he was going to die soon. His WILL would have been totally different.
I like Joe by the way, alwayz have, Michael didn,t always show love to Joe but i know he damn sure appreciated what he done for the Jackson family, a man with no formal training in management but still guided his nine children all to super stardom & of the tough streets of Gary, no wonder Michael calls him a genius.
You go child!!! That's right, it was fame. I love your comment. Joe was no different from many parents who were responsible for such large families. All of his children grew to know great success in many ways. Without him, including his discipline, we would not have experienced the work of the greatest entertainer in the world.
Mike Adams you fucking idiot 1. Janet is a girl anyone who knows anything about kids knows you don't need to discipline girls as much and 2. Michael said it himself he didn't ge it that bad. What fools like you fail to realise is that with this man there would be no mj and the fact that mj uses his father's treatment of as an excuse to do nonsense. When mj needed someone most in his darkest hours who was there for him? His family particular his father and how did mj repay them? By making them book appointments to see him. If your smart you'll see how that reflects on your mj and how he was a piece of work for how he treated his family
Latoya said the sexual abuse was a lie that she was forced to tell by her then abusive and controlling husband and manager to tell those lies to the public. Joe hitting his kids was true, but that was a normal thing to do back then....leaving marks/bruises and all. People MINDED THEIR OWN BUSINESS back then. Even tho his kids didn't think it was right, that was something a lot of parents did back then. It may not be acceptable NOW, but that's still ur choice u can make. I know where i'm from, as long as you don't leave any marks on your child then they don't consider that abuse. I think the jackson kids are the way they are because they worked like adults at their very young age. That is what messed them up, not having a childhood. I don't think Joe is evil for spanking his kids, but there are things i don't agree with ...such as him having his children call him JOE and not dad. like wtf? But i agree, if Joe hadn't worked those kids so hard, there would be no MJ or Janet, nor the rest of them. They all have him to thank for any success.
dont be hater guys what matters most is he raised them, feed them when they were young, ur judging someone you dont know, its a family relationship, they talked heart to heart and forgive each other long before michael's death, its a family issue we're out of it as a fans
it’s okay to have critical thinking around one’s actions, that’s the consequence of all of our behaviors and we’re not excused from having our actions judged in this human realm. in our hearts and the spiritual, we can absolutely forgive and hold space for even those suffering and making poor decisions.
If I am asked, "Do you believe Joseph Jackson physically abused his children?" I answer yes, based on Michael's own recollections and those of his siblings. However, Michael also forgave his father & continued trying to forge a better relationship with him through love and understanding. Listen to Michael's Oxford speech. Forgiveness is a key to greater love and something we all want.💗
Michael was the only one that faught Joe back while he was being beat, and he was also the only one out of Joe's sons that exposed Joe for who he really was.. so it all makes sense All of his other sons were too afraid of Joe to expose his abusive behavior to the public, and they all have a habit of acting as if he was just your average 'strict" parent Joe softened up as he got older. He eventually tried to be a better father, and this is how they want to remember him, but back in the 60's and 70's Joe was a monster and Tito knows it Sure Joe worked hard and did what he had to do to feed his family, but at the same time he bullied his kids, and he was way too physical with them.
joe said jermaine was better at singing ballads than michael, but he also said jermaine couldnt sing and dance as good as michael could, ive never heard jermaine sing a ballad but i loved michael,s ballad singing, you,re not alone was beautifully sung by michael, no one could have sung it better than michael
@meandmyself364 absolutely, also there's another instance where Joe is nearly in tears, he says "he's my son" I don't doubt that he loved every one of his children for one second.
And do you know Joe? NObody does...he is quite enigmatic... But also I do NOT believe that Mike lied about his father.... The fact here is that JOE's behaviour WAS and IS MEAN, SELFISH, ARROGANT AND COLD-HEARTED.....I don't care what is in his heart and I don't care if he is good in his heart...BECAUSE he never showed that good heart to Michael....even after his death (he was advertising his music label, blue ray products 2 days after his son's death....)
They all have very soft spoken voices. I don't know whether it's just how Joe came across in certain interviews and snippits. God bless Michael, his brothers, children and friends.
Joe Jackson didn't abuse his kids u gotta remember this man is from the south so any black family will tell u they to go out they used go outside and get a switch my grandma told me many stories about that so i can understand Joe was a little rough on his kids he just wanted them to do good that's all
THIS IS A GOOD INTERVIEW THAT JOE HAS DONE. HE REALLY OPENED UP AND EXPRESS HOW HE REALLY FEEL. THIS WAS 1 INTERVIEW JOE DID WHERE I COULD SAY HE LOVED ALL HIS KIDS. I THINK ITS HURTING HIM TO REALIZE HIS SON IS GONE AND HE WANTED TO HELP HIM BUT HE COULD NOT. ITS NOTHING HE SHOULD BEAT HIS SELF UP OVER BECAUSE HIS SON WAS A FORGIVING PERSON AND HE LOVED HIS FATHER AND MOTHER. I THINK MICHAEL WAS REALLY GOING THROUGH SOME PERSONAL ISSUES WITH SELF. THE OUT COME IS THAT NOW HE'S GONE TO SOON.
I don't like Joe, honestly, but he did what he could. Many claim they hate him, but, hey! He's just Joe Jackson The Bulldog. Yeah, he was rough, yeah, everybody got it from him, but he had so many black kids to take care of, they were not particularly rich, you know, and yet no one got involved in a crime or started taking drugs, etc. And how the hell could Joe know that he had a genius in the family? Or he should have just praised Michael and kick everybody else's arses? That way Michael would have grown to be a brat, would have wasted his talent.
WE need to still respect this man ........Joe is still Michael's father and i meet joe this year in Gary In.@ 2300 jackson the 28th and 29th of Aug and he was really a nice person . One thing i can say that Joe was every down to earth and he did love Michael.....GOD BLESS THE WHOLE JACKSON FAMILY. i know this man hurts for his son we just don't get to see it.......believe me JOE are hurting just like MJ fans are......LORD help us all get through....we lost the best entertainer in the world MJ.
His a great guy, non of his kids turnout to be criminals and he was able to feed and cloths his kids like a real man not depending on handouts. I greet you sir, you're a one of the few man in history who raised great God fearing big hearted kids. History will remember this man as a great man.
On top of everything, Joe Jackson is still the father, speaks like a father as he is describing all his sons. there is a sayings that "the only persons who can identify and know you well are you parents"..RIP MJ.. wont forget u. I love MJ so much..
Yes, but not being allowed to call your father "dad" and not having birthdays... that's so sad and devastating for a child let alone being abused verbally and physically
@balotelli456 And if he was truly "mouthing off to Joseph", do you think that justifies punishing him? All of them were scared shitless of him, but Michael stood up to him in his own way. Being as smart and talented he was, he realized that yes, Joseph was thinking of their careers. But he should have thought of their lives first and career second. Michael understood that and tried to make him understand.
The fact here is that MICHAEL HAD THE GREATEST TALENT AND CHARISMA of all siblings....Michael had an inborn heart of gold and sensitiveness....he could emote...he coloured millions of lives all over the world....that's so pricless.....We miss Michael.....the whole world misses him so much..... With or without Joe, MICHAEL WOULD STILL BE THE KING OF MUSIC, it was his destiny....But without Joe he'd be happier, a lot happier.... I MISS U MICHAEL, YOU'RE MY BEN FOREVER!!!!
@ksitz I also believe Joe really loves his children. I am Michaels age and ur right, bout that era. Parents believed firmly in the scripture, "spare the rod, spoil the child". It brought tears to my eyes to finally see Joe get choked up. It actually made me feel better, to know that Joe really did LOVE Michael. I know MJ wud be hurt to hear his fans speak so hatefully bout Joe. He was Michaels father and MJ said he had forgiven his dad for the way he was treated as a child. Michael was all bout
@FaithOFRedemption Yes I've noticed that too that Joe's eyes look green. Not only in this vid either. Significance is the genes aren't dark brown eyes.
He seems like a hard man, but, you can see the love and pride in his eyes when he talks about Michael. As well as the grief when he speaks about the death of his son.
I"m sure Michael Jackson would be very happy hearing Joe Jackson saying this 05:09 - 06:00 Although Joe Jackson was tough on his kids, he is the one who discovered their talent! So, i kinda appreciate what joe jackson has done by bringing Michael Jackson to the WORLD! R.I.P man in the mirror!
with 9 kids thats a lot of hardwork , he raised them, whatever michael and his father had been its just a family matter, he raised them. i know michael love him.
Omer bhati looks like MJ. If u look up the video "Fresh" by Omer he even makes the same exact doofy funny face mike used to make. Even his eyes him blanket and MJ have the same eyes. Eyes don't lie.
The ends don't justify the means. He beat his kids because they missed a step or two during their rehearsals. Why there are people who defends this guy is beyond me. Michael might have been a man who made his own choices later in life, but this man is partly responsible for the way he turned out, that being a very damaged man.
Joe may have made mistakes but we do have to give him credit for taking care of his family like he said. And, none of his kids ever got in trouble with the law as far as I know.
i understand joe. i agree with joe discipline. i was living in the bronx saw drug dealers, junkies, gangs. when i have kids ill dam sure will raise my kids right and strong like joe jackson.
He doesn't talks about her much, but trust me he shows much love towards her. She is the only child who was allowed to call him daddy, and gave hugs and kisses to. I know it is very weird but the Other Jackson was pretty much jealous of her because she received all the nurturing that they did not receive from him
Joe Jackson does make a great point about Michael not having a childhood. Growing up in city like Gary with all of it's crime and poverty, it would've been pretty easy for the Jackson kids to get in trouble. Everybody who says Joe is a bad father think about this: the reason why so many kids come up in the "system" is because they didn't have that discipline growing up. Have You heard of The Debarge Story. Their father makes Joe Jackson looks like an angel. He was CRAZY AS HELL!

that’s what i’m saying. i’m so grateful that Michael Jackson existed and he built a beautiful legacy, much of it i’m sure can be attributed to his upbringing, but the scars left on him were so obvious. i’m sure his dad took it overboard many times from what i’ve heard Michael say in interviews. one interviewer asked Michael to talk about the abuse and he looked so traumatized, almost began crying, and this is what 40 years later? people don’t understand the impact of these experiences on one’s body, brain, and psyche. life’s not perfect but we shouldn’t act like that’s okay or an admirable way to parent. especially the unnecessary toughness, not even allowing your kids to call you dad, and making them perform to perfection.
Michael was just too damn sensitive that all that was
?? He's a child abuser! Are you serious?? He should be in jail
@dannafreespirit6831 child abuser😂 you sound like a punk go to bed! for I get joe out his grave to come whoope your ass🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@dannafreespirit6831 He's dead.
In Bashir he said he got it the least bc he was fast which one is it ?
Michael Jackson wasn’t no bitch
@@orlandoyero7151 michael lied a lot... now i think he was abused, but embellished a little bit so he can play with other kids. Michael also said he had surgery in his book, but in post interviews denies any surgery.
He said when he caught him, and he didn't deny "any" surgery, he always said he had surgery on his nose.
Very true
did he just say jermaine is a better singer then MJ bahahahahahahahahahahah
Haha I know mj was well better Jermaine did have a good voice though but come on Michael was far better !
***** I think in the earlier days Jermaine without a doubt was a far better singer than Micheal.
Your crazy, mj had a better voice in all genres
@@Aydo88 If you really listen, Jermaine did have a better voice than Michael in the Motown days. When Jermaine sang lead, they sounded more grown up.
You act like he wasent there
No matter what people say about Joe I believe Michael would be here now if Joe could of got there!
No, you don’t treat people you love that way, especially with ZERO remorse about it. He was a monster.
Randy got arrested for beating his wife and ONE YEAR OLD DAUGHER This entire family is fucked up
i won't judge you Joe.
U must have been living in the house otherwise u don't know crap
@@anthonytaylor7928people really dont know the difference between the real joe and the joe they had portrayed in the movie SMH
Because he’s a narcissist being praised, it doesn’t make him any more sympathetic.
Jermaine better singer than Michael?? For real?? Funny how Michael made and sold all those records and Jermaine trailed behind with his solo career....
Michael was by far the better dancer and had generally better music and videos to compliment his career perfectly
That’s what made him more successful than Jermaine
I think Michael’s voice is more famous and iconic but since Joe trained them and was their boss maybe he’s right in thinking so
I know this comment is old as shit but I just wanted to take some time out to let you know.
He knows his sons he's responsible for their success u May not agree but respect his opinion
Jermanie cant fuk with Michael 😎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😎😎😎😎😎😎🔥🔥🔥🔥😎🔥🔥🔥😎😎😎😎🔥🔥😎😎🔥😎🔥🔥😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
He said he was a better ballad singer
Jermaine is a very talented singer. Loved his songs also.
I know right like he didn't expect to here anything positive
This is how I was raised and I'm a responsible, law abiding adult today for it.
hyy
I just feel that no one has the right to speak bad about Michael's family. Even if Mike chose to do so at times, that's his family and his business. I can say something out of anger or spite about my family if I want to....but I'll be damn if someone else does it! You can be a fan of Michael's w/o having negative things to say about his family, cuz at the end of the day...YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT. PERIOD.
Well, the ending had me tearing up. Joe is very complicated and I don't expect most to understand.
This is the only interview where I have seen Joe Jackson's eyes well up w/tears when speaking about his son.
I dont care what anyone says.....but this man is in pain of loosing his child....
Stay Strong Joe....we all loved Michael...
Now that is a real interviewer.
Stupid racist comment typical black
Katherine is the REAL savior to this family
He seems more soft spoken like his mom, well to us he seems that way, cause I heard some phone calls and he didn't sound all "Heal The World-y" lol
dejuanptv I think alot of how Michael portrayed his Father was probably from his own perspective..because the rest of his siblings don't think so bad about Joe..Janet doe s though..she has expressed in interviews on how she's not so close to him.Did you see how touched Joe was about his son's passing..Michael at the latter part of his life was forgiving of
his Dad. Listen to his Oxford Speech from 2001 ..he brings Joe in an ineresting positive Light..which I felt was well deserving.
I really like the way this guy is interviewing Mr. Jackson- with respect and humility
If your father was anything like this piece of shit then no, he didn’t love you. You don’t treat people you love like that.
Joe Jackson is a shrewd and powerful man.
thank you
leave joe alone....he was a strict father , thats it.......we need more fathers like that these days!!!
I have alot of respect for joe Jackson.
GREAT INTERVIEW!!!
not to defend him in anyway but sometime celebrities or people who are related to celebrites dont know when someone is trying to be nice and say hello like you did.
I like Joe by the way, alwayz have, Michael didn,t always show love to Joe but i know he damn sure appreciated what he done for the Jackson family, a man with no formal training in management but still guided his nine children all to super stardom & of the tough streets of Gary, no wonder Michael calls him a genius.
my opinion of him has changed but i would have done things differently
You go child!!! That's right, it was fame. I love your comment. Joe was no different from many parents who were responsible for such large families. All of his children grew to know great success in many ways. Without him, including his discipline, we would not have experienced the work of the greatest entertainer in the world.
kinda sad that nobody ever asks about janet ...she has been very successful too
Mike Adams you fucking idiot 1.
Michael was the only one that faught Joe back
while he was being beat, and he was also the only
one out of Joe's sons that exposed Joe for who
he really was.. so it all makes sense
All of his other sons were too afraid of Joe to
expose his abusive behavior to the public, and
they all have a habit of acting as if he was just
your average 'strict" parent
Joe softened up as he got older. He eventually
tried to be a better father, and this is how they
want to remember him, but back in the 60's and
70's Joe was a monster and Tito knows it
Sure Joe worked hard and did what he had to do
to feed his family, but at the same time he bullied
his kids, and he was way too physical with them.
joe said jermaine was better at singing ballads than michael, but he also said jermaine couldnt sing and dance as good as michael could, ive never heard jermaine sing a ballad but i loved michael,s ballad singing, you,re not alone was beautifully sung by michael, no one could have sung it better than michael
He might of been a strict father, but he made all the Jacksons what they r today, he really made them into great artists.........
He said that Omer is mj son???? I'm so confused!
What a nice man to man interview.
White people don't have clue to rasing a black boy in this country. I totally agree with you. Long live Mr. Joe Jackson.
what year is this?
MR MICHEAL JACKSON IS STILL PERFORMING ON THE OTHERSIDE KNOW WHAT
Jermaine a better singer than Michael...Omg is he for real..Wake up joe and drink the bloody coffee after you've finished smelling it ...
you gotta be kidding me!
jermaine can go home, much more people are better than the jacksons, they have no good voices, the show was ok,the rest poor.
This man loved his family, he was almost brought to tears talking about not wanting to see Michael in the casket.
Remember if it wasnt for Joe,Michael would have been working in somebody's steel mill in Indiana

Man said truth. About everything.
On top of everything, Joe Jackson is still the father, speaks like a father as he is describing all his sons. there is a sayings that "the only persons who can identify and know you well are you parents"..RIP MJ.. wont forget u. I love MJ so much..
michael played guitar ?
Yes, but not being allowed to call your father "dad" and not having birthdays... that's so sad and devastating for a child let alone being abused verbally and physically
They were Jehovah Witness they don’t celebrate birthdays & Holidays. I don’t know why he wouldn’t allow his Kids to call him Dad, that was sad
@balotelli456
And if he was truly "mouthing off to Joseph", do you think that justifies punishing him? All of them were scared shitless of him, but Michael stood up to him in his own way. Being as smart and talented he was, he realized that yes, Joseph was thinking of their careers. But he should have thought of their lives first and career second. Michael understood that and tried to make him understand.
maybe michael is Secretly alive too!
THANKS FOR THE POST
Michael and Jermaine were the closest of all of the brothers.
Oakland ca?
yeah me too esther...I love and I forgive...i turn out alright..but I still remember.
awesome interview... what a wonderful interviewer... great hearing joe's comments.
Joe Jackson was a good dude! I don't care what the media says.
I have mixed emotions about Joe he was strict but at least he kept them out of a life of crime .
VERY INTERESTING INTERVIEW WITH THE JOE JACKSON !!!
The ends don't justify the means. He beat his kids because they missed a step or two during their rehearsals. Why there are people who defends this guy is beyond me. Michael might have been a man who made his own choices later in life, but this man is partly responsible for the way he turned out, that being a very damaged man.
I wonder y all the children don't think joe was abusive, particularly Tito and Jermaine!
Joe Jackson was a real father
Joe may have made mistakes but we do have to give him credit for taking care of his family like he said. And, none of his kids ever got in trouble with the law as far as I know.
what a great interview....
i understand joe. i agree with joe discipline. i was living in the bronx saw drug dealers, junkies, gangs. when i have kids ill dam sure will raise my kids right and strong like joe jackson.
thank you Mr.& Mrs. Jackson for your wonderful children- thank you for Michael. HE was such a great gift to the world. I love you
Funny as hell, how no one is on here disputing Joe’s words about Omer.
07:33 was a beautiful moment (:
He doesn't talks about her much, but trust me he shows much love towards her. She is the only child who was allowed to call him daddy, and gave hugs and kisses to. I know it is very weird but the Other Jackson was pretty much jealous of her because she received all the nurturing that they did not receive from him
