Yeah sorry, that was me. I bought like 300,000 Switch 2s... not for scalping, I was building a house.
Bro over here building a Switch2 pyramid right next door to the one made of Jerry McGuire vhs tapes...
This was a masterfully crafted "brick" joke
Well it's not like there's any games to be playing on them instead, so something has to be done with them
🎵 Our house is a very, very, very fine house
That can play Mario Kart 🎵
For a brick, it can fly pretty good . . .
I like that Arlo actually shows up in the videos more often these days instead of just some B-roll.
I too have missed seeing his furry face
Well, he just makes less videos on his main channel now and does all simple voice over videos on his secondary channel.
@LyricanaRokarin5 videos in the last week alone. Chill
@EntertainMeTVwell, it's topical, when there are more topics, there'll be more videos
@EntertainMeTV He's been using the main channel a lot more than normal recently. But for the past several months, there has been maybe 1 main channel upload a month, and at least 7 or 8 second channel videos in the same time frame. Hopefully he's transitioning into actually using the main channel more often. But yeah it does at least make it easier to tell when the puppet will and won't appear
What if Arlo's name was Carlo and he was Italian? Much to ponder
“a-o i’m making nintendo switch 2 sale number reflections here”
secret third mario brother
That's just Vinny.
What if Carlo sold used cars
OK but what if his name was Arla and he was she? Ponderings.
“Be a burger” better be your political poster if you run for office
“Make burgers affordable again”. Acronym doesn’t quite land, but I can get behind the slogan.
It would alienate the vegan and vegetarian communities.
@crizz89 I understand the sentiment; the thing I struggle with is trying to figure out if burger prices being so high is just the components (mostly beef) being way too high or overt profit taking from the burger chains. I honestly think it's a bit of both.
@Subpar1945 Vegan and vegetarian burgers exist
@Cheese-xb4bi meh, that’s like saying “oat milk” . You can’t milk oats .
The 15M is how many have sold to us customers. 17.37M is how many have shipped to retail stores
And BOTH numbers are objectively very good and high, for a machine that’s not even 8 months old!
It’s an unmitigated success, whatever people wanna say…
Yeah but Nintendo gets the money from the retailers before it sold to the customer so from Nintendo's perspective they have sold over 17 million
@cloudrider9142 You can think that, but like... I just can't imagine jumping to defend Nintendo right now. Don't you want them to be better?
@hobosorcerer Just because he says these facts does not mean that he's defending Nintendo. If anything anyone who wants Nintendo to fail currently can bring up these numbers as a let down. I wouldn't say he is necessarily defending Nintendo right now, he is just stating the facts.
@hobosorcerer No one defended anything, they literally stated a fact.
To be fair, we're really not used to seeing a successful system being actually available.
Actually meeting that kind of massive demand is honestly insane.
This definitely plays a part in the vibes. Nobody has seen a console actually meet the demand like this in decades. Nobody could fathom that Nintendo actually met the demand successfully, it's just so insanely hard to believe that it would be even remotely possible. But Nintendo did it. They actually properly met the demand, despite the success. Nobody could see that coming given the history of console launches.
I thought a lot of people would be turned off by a lot of the things that turned me off like the $80 games or the digital instruction booklet being $10, having to pay just to play multiplayer, the system being $450 instead of the $400 it should be, etc
@bland9876 The $80 games I get being upset about, but not the $450 system. That was expected for a system like this. It's a handheld console that houses specs that are more powerful than the Steam Deck. It can output 4K 120fps when docked, and uses microSD Express for external storage. Did you seriously think that would only cost $399? Especially now in this economy?
@bla@bland9876 these would all be turnoffs in a vacuum. But to be fair, only one game was $80 and most people bought that game bundled with the system for $50. And all consoles that are not PC require paying for online multiplayer.
Yeah I agree switch 2 is expensive but it’s still the cheapest new console and hybrid handheld on the market. So when you compare switch 2 to other new gaming devices, the negatives don’t really stand out.
Also having to pay for a graphical update on a game you already own is insane
In my head canon, the man behind Arlo has one absolutely massive arm, and one tiny arm.
Man behind Arlo? What are you talking about?
You could look up what the man behind Arlo looks like on RUclips if you want.
Stand by your man, even when he's fuzzy and blue.
because* he's fuzzy and blue
ESPECIALLY when he's fuzzy and blue.
You remind me the song fuzzy and blue with cookie monster grover harry and frazzle.
The whole section at 4:30 about not being able to predict the future despite it feeling obvious in retrospect is actually really insightful and true for a lot of things.
*insightful
Sorry
But it wasn't just "obvious in retrospect", it was obvious before he made the video. Circana had already released their data from November about how well the Switch 2 was selling, and it stands to reason that momentum would carry into December as well.
@Gilhopethank you for the correction!
@devindykstraNo prob!
Of course; we're all drowned with information every day of our lives, why should we expect the important facts to stand out? It makes sense that it's much easier to look back and find them only after they're proven right, because nobody's rushing to look back at what was proven wrong.
I'd like to think that Nintendo's plan to combat scalpers and stock shortages by simply _making enough of them_ is why there's so much stock on the shelves.
*Me looking at amiibos and artificial scarcity made by nintendo in the past* suuure…
@rebecca_rh And what proof do you have that amiibos had artificial scarcity? Because most people would say Nintendo under produced amiibo because to prevent overstocking and could always produce more if needed.
Weren't they requiring a Nintendo account also to order? Maybe that helped.
@KingcoleIIVthey were requiring that for pre-orders through their own store as far as I knew
“With them, even uncertainty is uncertain. And I’m not even sure about that”
It keeps being relevant
The past couple years have re-trained consumers to expect sellouts and scalping and low stock. Seeing stocked shelves and a solid supply chain of a product like a video game console is seen as "low sales" rather than a sign of accurate manufacturing forecasts and inventory levels. Stores WANT shelves to have product on them, otherwise no one can buy anything. And guess what - it used to be like that ALL THE TIME! THere was a time when reselling a console was not profitable after the first week or so. The Wii was one of the first times where it was hard to find a console a few months after the launch. So it's a hard leap to say "Product on shelves = failure" when conditions are normal. I think this is a sign NIntendo is back to "normal"
I would think the low sales idea comes more from how most Switch 1 users just aren't buying the Switch 2 despite how hugely successful the Switch 1 was. Switch 2 is doing well in Japan... where they released it for a really well price, but underperforming in other regions where it was not handled well. And really, all the many many problems Switch 2 has would probably be ignored if Nintendo just had games on the console people wanted to play, but it's looking as dry as the PS5 is with how it's just a no games machine. The price is bad, game prices are bad, key cards are bad, the bricking is bad, etc but most people would just not care if the thing had games, but they didn't. We'll probably be waiting until mid-gen for any steam to start kicking up, which then maybe the system might see better performance in sales outside of Japan
I swear the video was called uh oh
That’s what it was called when I got the notification. I didn’t even clock that it changed when I actually clicked on it
It is
It was
Creators now have the option to do A/B title testing, meaning they can have the same video have multiple titles for different people to see which one performs best, view-wise. It leads to the notification title sometimes being a different one than the one you see when you actually click on the video.
@Mr_MimestampI will say, the simple “uh-oh” is definitely a good attention grabber
props to Arlo for being honest about the results
you must remember what the president of Nintendo said that he was going to avoid scalpers by flooding stores with units. That's why you see so many everywhere and gave the illusion that it's not selling.
The anti Nintendo nerds simultaneously hold that it only sold well cuz the scalpers and in the same sentence say but look at all these in stock it’s not selling. 😂
@protoman2260 You should probably take a long look at why you feel the emotional obligation to defend a multibillion dollar company that would sell your mother to epstein for $80
@protoman2260Also eBay prices aren't even price gouged so that doesn't even make sense
We're just not used to see large amounts of consoles on display in retail anymore. And this even predates the shortages and scalping issues we've seen witch ps5/xsx.
When there's adequate supply, it's bad for Nintendo. When there's limited supply it's a manufactured "shortage" and it's bad for Nintendo. Never fails.
2.5 mil per month in the first 4 months
2.3 mil per month last quarter
Averaging 1.5 mil per month til end of May would mean around 25 mil for first full year, with no big Mario/Zelda.
It did occur to me that Black Friday is all about big savings, it no doubt played a part.
I never understood why Black Friday was used as the example to show it struggled. It’s one week. “Small sample size” is not the vocabulary of internet folk. It tends to destroy narratives.
@MatthewMedina-b7l this sounds like willful ignorance. the ps5 sold almost twice the amount of the switch 2, which is a new console that is available. spin it however you want to, no one at nintendo thinks that's a good thing.
@saml302 exactly it didn’t sound good by those reports but based off these sales numbers it appears to be right on track to what they’re expecting. So even thought the entire market took a hit last holiday season it’s still selling well even if ps5 sold more during Black Friday
That’s one reason why I don’t put too much stock into the doom and gloom stories. Since Nintendo is transparent on their sales I usually just wait till the next financial report to see if the stories match the numbers
@saml302pS5 was on sale…it better have sold more. Lol
@saml302Black Friday tends to amplify the slightly older consoles that can have sales. Xbox One won a couple Black Fridays since they dropped the price by $100+ in those years, despite being half of the PS4 in the end. It looks like the Switch 2 mirrored the Switch and had strong Cyber Monday sales on its first holiday
6:47 we all make vibes-based calls from time to time haha
I applaud the willingness to admit that you were wrong.
Arlo has a lot of practice
0:22 for some reason, Twitter was mad at this video, idk why tho, anyone can say whatever they want, sure, but getting angry at someone just sharing some opinions? The internet never grew up jaja.
I still think he made good points considering that the switch 2’s first year success is more a reflection of the massive success of the switch 1. There’s a huge market of diehard fans that got the system ASAP but time will tell if the system has legs. Despite the higher sales, I’d still say that the switch 1 had a much more successful first year as they sold more units than its predecessor in that one year alone.
Its twitter what did you expect
Well it's also Twitter, what do you expect?
@superbullet516 I expect nothing and still leave dissapointed jaja.
@thebestworst8002 Yeah, its ok for some to think there were troubled waters ahead, even more when most online publications were only feeding on doom and gloom for the industry, god forbid we as readers feel like there *could* be some problems up ahead.
Everyone's broke and black friday isn't good sales anymore
Oh, wow you really didn't think of that. Seen enough.
11:06 there’s something fourth wall breaking about referring to other RUclipsrs in this way.
kinda pot calling the cattle black seeing how arlo's own prediction is all doom and gloom and he even admits being wrong lmao.. guy can't have his cake and eat it too.. you can't jump on the hater bandwagon for clicks and then turn around and then jump on the next bandwagon of making fun of haters once they lose
@kephalai yeah that was a pretty shady of Arlo. Like why even address that? You were agreeing with them just a bit ago.
Why Arlo always worried bro
He’s in the Muppstein files
@johnsmithabc94726omg 🫣😬
@johnsmithabc94726 lmaoooooo i actually did a spit take reading that
My god 😂
He’s a square and anything negative scares him
Arlo...Blink twice if Nintendo kidnapped you and made you say this
And who is paying you to be the local h8ter with some spare time?
3:36 This is actually a very interesting quirk of mass-produced hardware. There's hardware sales and then what's usually called "sell through" (the top of the graph)
You don't actually buy a Switch 2 from Nintendo. You buy it through a retailer. Those retailers buy millions of Switch 2s (lets say at 400 bucks for a 50 dollar profit), then *you* buy that Switch 2 off of the shelf. Right now, Nintendo has sold 17m Switch 2s to various warehouses and retailers, and they estimate (see the bottom note) that of that 17m, 15m have been sold to consumers.
If I took every Switch 2 off of store shelves, Nintendo estimates that I'd have about 2m Switch 2s. Additionally, it is an estimate because stores often don't report back to Nintendo, and things get blurry when you consider returns and defects and the like (just like you said!).
A bad sell through rate is anything below 60% IMHO, as that means you'd have to halt factories, since retailers are still struggling to sell what they've got. However the Switch 2 is at an estimated 88% STR, which is actually quite fantastic. They're flying off shelves, but they have enough padding to storm a huge game launch or sudden shortage.
This is the important part that people who look at this data tend to miss. There's a reason why some retailers are already discounting the console, despite Nintendo attempting really, REALLY hard to tell them not to. They are over-stocking, because "expected high sellers" are usually ordered en masse, and the general idea for these mass stocking up events is that you'd rather have a bit more and not run out, than have a bit less and lose probably profit.
But very importantly, those retailers ARE discounting them. It's not even funny anymore, and Nintendo is playing pretend to hope that the smokescreen will make people give in.
Well articulated and you don’t mock him for not knowing this. Truly and honestly impressed by and appreciate this comment
1/3 are sold in japan though
@justaretrogamerstreamerthe “discounts” you’re referring to is anywhere from *9 DOLLARS* and *50 dollars* so while it’s technically a discount it’s nothing to write home about.
@protoman2260 It's a fairly new product, that is still supposedly both hyped and allegedly selling super well at the price they are asking for. That's not the kind of product you discount, because it brings you a lot of profit without much effort.
When you discount something as new as the Switch 2, it has to be something that doesn't sell well, or something that at the very least, sells less well than you think. It also has to be temporary (when many of those discounts are permanent).
Then you have to think that those retailers are going against the direct will of Nintendo by not advertising those discounts, too, because if you are trying to sell more units of the thing by being cheaper, you advertise the heck out of it... But they don't.
All in all, your statement that "9 to 50 dollar discount is nothing" only tells me that you don't know how the market even tries to work.
My replacement Dock still hasn't arrived from Nintendo. I've been emailing them for months about it now
0:42 if I recall the “deals” weren’t really deals.
If I also recall, switch 2 just came out not that long ago
@Yoshizuyuner June 5, 2025
How so? The bundle is already decent value but for Black Friday the bundle was the cost as a normal Switch 2, seems pretty good to me especially with how people lost their mind about the price of MKW
This just shows that literally no one can predict anything about Nintendo. They are truly an enigma.
Ive been pretty accurate with my predictions since 2006
Milk carton falls over.
Nah, just bet on them surviving. People always, always, always underestimate Nintendo or think it's finally reached its end, and it always, always, always returns stronger than ever.
It’s almost like most of the gaming community doesn’t know what they’re talking about and just parrot what others have said
They have a bottomless well of casuals to tap into
Hmmm... Idk a single person who owns a switch 2
I am the only person I know who owns a Switch 2
i know one but thats not in my inner cyrcle. just compare it to the first switch, everyone and his grandmother had one or planed to buy on soon.
I know 4
my friend bought one
@L@LangfingerOleg This was only true a few years into the life cycle of the switch. Whether or not the switch 2 has the same longevity is unknown, but its current numbers don’t point to a conspiracy about the legitimacy of sales numbers, simply the fact that initial purchases will be made by fans more than a general audience.
That title and thumbnail looks like the cover of a psychological thriller
3:30 it means they sold 15m but they shipped 17m
Big Nintendo channel… doesn’t understand shipped vs. sold. This is basic knowledge for video game sales, lol.
shipped is pretty much all Nintendo care about those consoles have already sold
it must have sold out in most places then. 2 million isn't a lot left when talking about 20 million roughly.
@TheUltimateRarethat’s the problem.
Don't think so. Shipped means sold for Nintendo. Doesn't matter if it the buyer was a shop or a customer.
I wanted to point out something really quick, I know its not exactly related to the video, but on Nintendo careers, there is an interesting amount of hiring going on at Retro Studios still for some pretty key positions like sound design, level design, tools engineers, and concept artists
Could be a bunch of staff left after Prime 4. 🤷🏼♂️
@thierrys85 could you blame them?
@thierrys85hopefully those that left are the ones originally involved with 343.
@lunaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaNot really, Prime 4 was an awful game, and an absolute joke of a game. Seriously, what disaster that waste of a game is right?
@train4292 I wouldn't say it was that bad, it was just average with high expectations. Still, even what the development must have been through, its amazing that the game ended up being released at all.
There exists games outside of first party exclusives. Some might want the, supposedly excellenttly performing, portable version of Re9.
I heard FF7R performed really well sales wise on Switch 2
@roshambo4595 That’s all relative. It was doing on par for a bunch of S2 editions, and still didn’t even beat out some other S2 edition either, lol. We’ll see what the sales numbers equate to. Who knows how many copies they even printed. Could’ve been a small run.
Guess this means they just fixed their supply chain issues
they never had any for switch 2
You were "wrong" because you only focused on US sales. Sales in foreign markets (like the US) were a bit lower than Nintendo was expecting, Furukawa acknowledged this during the investor Q&A. However, Japanese sales were really strong, which carried the foreign markets' slack and allowed the Switch 2's first holiday sales to mostly match the Switch 1's.
Someone finally says it. Japan did do heavy lifting on sales. The rest of the market outside of Japan subsidized the costs of those discounted prices. It is what it is. Nintendo certainly knows how to cater to their most core consumer market, and granted it's not like they'd want to lose what opportunity for sales they've made with their massive presence in their own country's market. Whether or not Nintendo sticks the landing globally longterm may come down to direction, and it's not too hard to see why Doug Bowser was quietly removed. They need a better marketer in NoA, though it seems they might have to go through a few before settling on someone.
I just wanted to point out that Arlo looks like Shin Godzilla in the thumbnail.
I was actually trying to figure out what Godzilla had to with the video😆
*"A monster incarnate. A console doomed."*
I mean one of your big theses on that video was how hard it is for people (sorry, people and blue monsters) to predict the future when the clues are in front of them. I reckon you were proved correct!
Sony just sold another 12 million PS2s
I rather buy a PS2 than a Switch 2 at this point. At least, I would own all my games and be able to play them even without Internet.
@Zeriel00 As someone who owns both a PS2 and Switch 2, I'm gonna press the doubt button. PS2 is a great system but mine hasn't seen play in many, many years and I'm sure that's not uncommon. I revist Kingdom Hearts on it and that's literally it, modern gaming experiences are just exponentially better in most cases.
@sway_onthetrail
Games I would play on Switch 2
DK
Kirby Air Riders
Games I would play on PS2
Vice City/San Andreas
All the Armored Core games
All the Xenosaga Games
FFX /XII
Tribes Aerial Assault
Ever Quest Online
Dance Dance Revolution (I actually lost weight playing this)
and like 20 JRPGs I'm too lazy to name
One of these would cost Over 700$ to play, the other like 200$
What do you think?
@Zeriel00 I just got FFX on my Switch for sale & the artstyle looks amazing - is the game rlly as great as ppl say?
@Zeriel00bruh you’re comparing a legacy vintage system that had 6 years of life between its next generation with a console less than a year old. Just say you would rather play retro games, there’s nothing wrong with that. But otherwise this is a totally disingenuous argument.
Put this in perspective, the Wii U didn’t even sell 14 million units in its lifetime
Ganondorf seems very pleased by this news
Uh oh! Arlo time!
the fact that arlo hung a microphone prop in the top left corner is so funny to me😭
I've been keeping tabs on the Gannondorf figure in the bottom-right corner myself. It's happy in this video, but it's often doing a headstand.
Looks like Nintendo doesn't need to *SWITCH 2* a different strategy.
I forgive you. I too felt the same way, shocked at the stock of switch 2s everywhere, even seeing used ones at my local game store, on eBay, etc.
It is nuts to me that this seems to be the first console generation where getting in early rather than later has actually had a benefit.
The playstation and xbox have both gone up and price, and it is very likely the switch 2 will follow.
Wanna say massive respect for making this vid man admitting your mistakes and stuff
And now I am worried
Nintendo actively told us in the run-up to the launch that they had been manufacturing these for about a year in advance to make sure there was never any dip in supply so I don't know why anyone is feeling like it's not selling.
I’ve still never seen one for sale in the wild. It was always sold out. The only way I got one was doing a raffle on Amazon for the chance to be picked to buy one within 24 hours of it being available.
Somehow I missed that. Good to know and great move. Fuck scalpers.
Edit: OK, I didn't think I'd be getting as much pushback or counterarguments to my comment as I'm getting. What I was getting at is that it's better to not judge something wholly from one perspective. I'm not saying stuff like opening weekend of a movie or day 1 sales of a game aren't important or useful, they just couldn't be the be-all-end-all for judging a movie/game/etc. success.
Original comment
This is like how movie executives tend to judge a movie's success on opening weekend and little to nothing else, making a movie that debuted at number 1 in the box office but then falls to number 5 or 6 in the following weeks look like a success, while a movie that debuts at number 2 or 3 in the box office and stays their throughout it's time in theaters look like a failure or "disappointment". Gotta remember to look at the whole picture.
That's quite a moving of goalposts
@alanlee67it’s all these executives do
You just need to look at the money. If a film opens to a $200 million box office then vanishes without a trace the week after, it's still been far more successful than a film that sits at number 2 for five weeks and pulls in a total of $100 million. It's particularly true when looking at movie charts since the positions are relative, some weekends that $100 million would put you straight at number 1, other weekends $100 million won't even get you in the top 10.
What if, hypothetically, for the sake of argument, a movie ranks #1 at the box office, loses that streak at the tail end of one day, and gets back to #1 the following day?
Bro there is a math behind it. Day 1 sales and preorders are super important and valuable
Vibechecking -Arlo 2026

I still think we're looking at a tortoise and the hare situation with this one.
Time will tell.
You can accept it now or you can stave off the inevitable as long as you like, either way, you're still gonna be holding the L
Be A Burger! - Arlo 2026. 🍔
Oh Arlo, you’ve forgotten the beauty of being a pessimist: you either get the smug satisfaction of an “I told you so” or you receive the delightful surprise of living in a better world than you expected.
Ironically enough, being able to do the latter and even see the beauty in the world means you're something of an optimist, too. Not in a naive way, but in a real way that leads to lasting happiness.
@Coey8900Oh certainly. That’s mostly just a pet joke of mine. Regardless of expectations, being open to acknowledge the good and the beauty in the world as it comes is a pretty essential mindset to experience joy and hope with any degree of regularity, I think.
@Coey8900 I'm an optimist but I'm also a realist.
Except the sorts of "pessimists" who are trying to RUclips the failure of the Switch 2 into existence don't actually want to be happy. They are angry that they were wrong. Look at dumbasses like NintenDeen, as soon as these numbers came out he wasn't saying "Oh, I live in a better world than I expected", he was saying "HERE'S HOW THE SWITCH 2 IS STILL A FAILURE, ACTUALLY".
Oh, those aren’t pessimists. Pessimism is when you believe the things you want to happen mostly won’t. Actively wanting bad things to happen is just spitefulness.
If Nintendeen were pessimistic, he would expect the Switch 2 to succeed even though he desperately wants it to fail. He is a spiteful optimist.
The video is still an Uh Oh… on my phone
The part that interests me is that - what act of sale are they considering? Units leaving Nintendo? Or units leaving shops? Because the latter has been quite slow where I leave, but the former means that every game store I’ve been to is packed with switch 2 merchandise that no one is buying bc no one where I live can afford it. I live in a poorer area in NSW Australia, and preowned games and consoles are a huge market here. So I’m curious to see what the discrepancy between the two numbers would be. Because I know for a fact that here, that difference is enormous. I literally just spent two hours last week rummaging through the 3DS and Wii games that were in their second hand box, and put a deposit on a second hand console that’s being refurbished (Xbox 360 - full price at about $500 AUSD).
I think a great deal of the sales have to do with both people replacing their consoles with what we’ve been told is a more polished unit, and the numbers of units shipped from the production lines. And thanks to how often silly business with numbers causes grief, I am inherently suspicious.
Of the people I game with or talk to (in my country and abroad) of near 100 people, and about 60 switch owners, only 3 own a switch 2. But then again… I probably just have poor friends? The few exceptions are richer than the majority, to make it worse.
I suppose we also need to factor in people who buy these consoles as gifts. People who aren’t gamers who just bought their family member a console they believed they’d enjoy. So that market is probably a big one too.
Edit- something I forgot to add. Black Friday, as an American sale holiday, is both a recent addition to Australian economics, and highly controversial, so the sales for the weekend here were abysmal out of protest on top, which may have contributed to a plateau in the numbers as well. And due to being in such strange circumstances myself financially, my bias can’t be underestimated. I can’t afford subscriptions, but I can afford one time purchases. I actually love the Nintendo only pass for the ability to play all the games of mine and my brother’s that my mother threw away, so not being able to access it at the moment has been really sad, but one of the first things I’m fixing once I’m financially stable enough to do so. And as a side note, until you’re poor enough to realise hot water is a luxury, don’t get up me about still playing video games whilst living in a dilapidated house. You don’t need running water in the house when you’ve got a fridge, a hose, and drink bottles. And you can always shower at a mates place! Poverty is temporary, fun is forever. I’ll be getting a switch 2 only when it’s on a preowned rack, but that’s because I’m cheap, not because I have some kind of special issue with the machine.
At the end of the day, we have to remember that the switch 2 is a Japanese console and it was made primarily by Japanese people - they aren’t going to put it on sale on our special days, or make exceptions for our special ways. And maybe that’s fine.
My only problem with the world as it stands, is that anyone has to make the choice between living and surviving. And that’s a problem with the world, not one individual industry or company.
Like honestly, you had good presumptions, usually holiday data is where the real meat and potatoes for sales are
Nah, he was just repeating nonsense Nintendeen taking points. It had been pretty obvious from smarter sources and RUclips channels that Switch 2 sales were going well.
I'm still laughing at that one dude who thought the switch one would be in life support after it's first year and then it went on to become one of the best selling consoles in gaming history.
"i don't even know if we're doing good or bad or not let's slash another 10 million from gen 10's budget"
10:38 That's what I was gonna say! The faster the Nintendo Switch 2 sells, the sadder it makes me feel for the Wii U. That little guy never stood a chance! 😭😭😭😭
The Wii U was done so dirty while the Switch 2...it was rushed...
And this is why arlo is not a grifter. He has the capability of admitting he was WRONG
I like that Arlo is taking responsibility for his lapses in judgement. It sets him apart from a lot of people in a good way imo
I can't believe Arlo is finally wrong for the first time
Truly unprecedented times 😓
@Edible132 Truly a recession indicator
Hes right. Yall are just coping Neanderthals. You just drool and gobble nintendos rod
We should all make guesses based on sound reason and then graciously accept if we are wrong
Just a reminder that Nintendo(and big corporations in general) doesn't need a reason to lie to their investors and shareholders that want infinite 5% growth year after year so long as the people at the top are blinded by their own greed because they plan to extract as much wealth from the company as they can before they deploy their golden parachute...
that thumbnail goes hard
My issue with your take is that you keep saying "second year" when the switch 2 is still weeks ahead of the switch in terms of sales, and hasn't even been on the market one FULL year yet.
Nintendo didn't offer a Black Friday deal; that may have contributed to the bad Black Friday numbers. But I did notice that a lot of retailers were offering the Mario Kart World bundle (usually $499) for the price without the game ($450), so maybe that helped the numbers.
But the system did have $50 ooff around Black Friday....
That was Cyber Monday.
Arlo on the thumbnail be going through a midlife crisis about being wrong about Nintendo on a random Wednesday.
9:00 Pokémon Day is this month, and the franchise is celebrating its 30th anniversary. I would be floored if they didn't have a Pokémon Presents with some new game announcements.
The Pokemon channel put out a 30th anniversary "trailer" about 7ish hours ago with a date on it (being in a few days instead of late February so that's surprising)
Probably a presents, or maybe a month long celebration thing
@deaddead698 super bowl collab
@deaddead698That trailer was for a Superbowl ad, there's gonna be a presents on Pokemon day that will be how they're celebrating the whole year
9:14 me thinks arlo forgot about pokemon day
No condolences for the Virtual Boy? ;)
I suppose it should be happy the Switch 2 has embraced it.
The Virtual Boy sold less than the Wii U did in one week.
@gamerweeb1That was the point.
Don’t worry: you’re all good with me, Arlo!
i kinda wish the sales were bad, that’s what makes nintendo actually have to lock in and not coast on mario kart
Poor sales would only be able to influence their game output with a few years delay, and the last time sales were bad, we got 2015-2016...
who is buying it now? almost no one
Cant just coast on Mario Kart either, if you weren't buying Mario Kart, there was basically no reason to buy a Switch 2 at launch. MKW had a like 95% attachment rate with the Switch 2 so the only people really buying it anymore are people who are yet to buy a Switch 2
nah they wouldnt fix anything regardless
@alterablebark54Wow, just straight up ignoring titles like Cyberpunk there huh? The one game that showed how much of a big bump the Switch 2 is power wise? Come on now dude.🙄
Imagine if this IS the Switch 2 struggling in it's first year as was predicted...
arlo i desperately need to hear your thoughts on the new muppet show that just released
How can he operate that camera with one arm?
He probably has two he just doesn’t use the other one cause it’s holding the camera
Why do people assume Arlo is just one person.....?
I’m sorry I don’t want to be a burger
That ending was savage. Lol
What if Arlo's name was Barlo and he was Blue? Much to ponder
That's preposterous! his name is Arlo and he is Arlo. Nothing to ponder
Arlo should start a podcast called “Worrying for Nintendo”.
If nintendo went out of business, arlo would be a terrifying serial killer
“Take a look at this. The sick fvck cut off the victims arms and based on the blood trails used them like a computer mouse.”
10:03 Arlo has no butt, confirmed
Thank the stars the poor impoverished Miyamoto can still afford his daily beans 🥲
I'm much more interested in how many of those 15 million are from Japan
This feels like the telephone game. Some people said switch 2 sales had started to nosedive, and other folks took that and just kept parroting this sentiment over and over to the point of “Nintendo NEEDS 3D Mario to survive”. Turns out, like with most things, this wasn’t half as dramatic as people made it out to be.
It's a game of telephone where several of the players are disingenuous and saying the wrong thing on purpose
@meikaishitrue, there are many grifters just hoping and praying on Nintendos downfall. Anything negative gets the clicks
Hope in humanity destroyed.
Criticizing nintendo for being anti-consumer doesn’t make you a nintendo hater, but never criticizing nintendo for being anti-consumer and ubisoft levels of evil makes you a nintendrone.
Look guys, i loved nintendo for 25 years. I criticize it because for how far it has fallen and i want better.
What does Nintendo do that make them "evil"
@JordiumZdo you want me to make an actual list or…? Because I could go till tomorrow
What really blindsided me about that chart is the Switch 2's week one sales lead. The vibe I got from the offline and online spheres around me were essentially "why even get a Switch 2" for people with Switches and "eh, you may as well since it's mostly backward compatible" for the people without.
I heard about the disinterest over the price tag. Most people I talked to were holding onto their dollars. My spheres didn't care much about Mario Kart. I saw my streamers playing it, sure, but everyone seemed more interested in seeing than playing. But no, it dramatically eclipsed the Switch 1 right out of the gate.
Maybe I'm just projecting, because I'm not that interested in buying a Switch 2 until we get a mainline Zelda unless Smash comes out and it has a tastefully curated roster, super thoughtful improvements, and Subspace Emissary 2.
I was honestly kind of expecting Switch 2 sales to have a bad holiday as well based on bad vibes, but I guess you can never overestimate the vocal minority.
Bad vibes from a small minority no one cares about. The overall buyers don't give a damn about Internet drama
“I Was 100% WRONG About Switch 2 Sales!”
I just wish it allowed for youtube access again man, I keep my regular switch OLED plugged into the TV more often than my switch 2 because I can just use it as my TV. I use youtube premium so I’ve always used youtube over TV as I just prefer it, so losing youtube makes it so I pretty much only use the switch 2 for on the go usage.
I recently bought one, not because I had to have it, but because I knew I would buy one eventually, and I was concerned about the price going up.
I do wish Nintendo would release a cheaper “no screen, battery, or WiFi” option for those of us who only play at home.
Switch 2 TV. The Nintendo ps vita tv version
@chicomaroto essentially, yes.
‘or WiFi’ would kill a device like that. I’d love to buy that…but I don’t play next to an Ethernet port :p
@pienotlie9081 I networked my house a while ago. But yeah, most people don’t want to do that or rent.
Couple points of clarification. Yes the 17 mil vs 15 mil numbers are stocking(sales to retailers) vs sell through(sales to end users). Sales numbers are good although sales in the west aren't as rosy as they probably would have liked, carried by excellent sales in Japan(where the price point is notably lower). Good shout on a lot of things though with the availability seeming to just be them being very well prepared and the lack of meaningful black Friday deal meaning it really had no incentive and might have been competing with other more time sensitive purchases in peoples budgets.
Nintendo had lost families like mine. I’m not a hard core gamer. I a fan of Nintendo and single player games with great stories like BOTW and who enjoyed playing legendary games handheld like The Witcher 3 among others. But now because of the rise in costs, as much as I want to buy the NS2, it’s just too expensive as of now. It’s possible there are dozens of others who feel the same. So yeah i think i might skip this generation. Or jump other consoles in the future.
It's the cheapest console on the market, if your complaining about price what could you possibly jump to?
@nineeleveninsidejob388 Well right now, I’m just too broke for any new console lol. The new games are also too expensive now. I’ll just stick to my old collections. Maybe some years down the line, when things get better for me, not entirely sure if i’ll stick to Nintendo if i had to pick one console.
@hpog2468 Fair enough, don't let the internet fool you with negative grifting. I run a Linux based computer (5700x3d+6750xt) and sold a steamdeck and bought a switch 2. It is the must have console imo, if you can only have one.
@nineeleveninsidejob388 Appreciate the tip. I’m pretty sure I’ll be just be one great game away from impulse buying a NS2 on my card one day when things get better. I’ll tell my wife it’s for my mental health again. 😂
i think the bundle did go on a $50 sale like the week after and then again a few weeks after that.
Two videos on the main channel on the same day?! What is this witchcraft! 😱
auto jail time for that pun
I can't tell you HOW MANY Nintendo hate RUclips channels I've marked as not interested.
